The American Outlaws were fired up at Ry-Macs last night, as the US Men's Soccer Team won over Guatemala at a sold out Livestrong Park in Kansas. With this win, the US Men's team reach the final round of 2014 World Cup Qualifying. The U.S. will look to qualify for its seventh consecutive FIFA World Cup tournament,by finishing in the top three of the hexagonal group which plays matches from Feb.
It's as good as the US men's national team could have expected for the World Cup draw, and no
doubt, USA fans will trot out the "1950" chant, recalling the massive upset by the USA against
England in that year.
USMNTer Alejandro Bedoya is trying to make like The Jeffersons and move on up; dude has left Orebro
SK in Sweden and is on trial with Birmingham City. If he ends up moving there I'm calling for a
straight up, All-American party house in Birmingham with Bedoya, Eric Lichaj, Michael Bradley and
The Brads complete with off-season keggers and a deportation-worthy 4th of July party.
They say Benny Feilhaber is having a breakout year for both club & country. Who's they you say?
SBI. As I have no idea what the hell he's doing in Denmark --and let's be honest here, without
actually seeing his games on TV who does-- I'll just take their word for it. As for his performance
with the nats I'd say he has been quite good but not standout to me; I think if I were "Blue Eyes"
Bradley I would start Stu Holden ahead of him in Dempsey absence and maybe bring him in off the
bench late tomorrow night.
Have you seen these Dying Bravely videos that's been doing the rounds? They're incredible, some of
the best bootleg USMNT clips I have ever seen. I know the word "epic" is as played out as Interpol
right now but that really is the best descriptive for something as long, engrossing and emotionally
charged as this; watching Mo Edu's disallowed goal again for the first time in months is still just
as infuriating as it was in June.
Look who it is y'all? My dude Kammarman! And he appears to be decidedly warmer than the last time
we saw him. He's coming at us direct from the now-traditional January USMNT camp at the HDC with a
posse-cut featuring Bobby Blue Eyes, MLS Cup champion Robbie Findley and Clarence "I used to rep
Dallas but now I stack paper the Norwegian way" Goodson.
This one slipped through the cracks on Friday so I'm sorry for posting up late. But it Martin Tyler
talking U.S. v. England so I kinda have to do it. Not because what he has to say is totally
earth-shattering but it's because he says everything so...smoooth.
Bobby Blue Eyes & co. have no expectations for the draw. Which is funny because after the last
three games I have no expectations for the tournament. Hopefully a bit of good luck will come our
way in both to balance out the bad-juju double-whammy of the Davies and Gooch injuries.
You know how when you are really, really cold --so cold that you don't even shiver-- you just get
so still that if you are not talking you might be mistaken for dead? I think that's what's going on
here with Kammarman. Dude looks like he is in real pain. Somebody get that man a parka.
Behind the scenes video and pitch-side highlights from the U.S.-Honduras match aka The Phantom
Qualifier. U.S. is getting better & better at these...keep 'em coming Kammerman.
ESPN and Johnny Harkes with a look at Team USA and where their heads are at ahead of tonight's
closing qualifier. This sh*t is going to be waaay emo and I'm not talking about My Chemical Romance
or any other band of boys wearing girls jeans. I ain't gonna lie...if they don't get me in the
pre-game I'll probably be a beery, teary mess during the 9th minute.
Them Yankee boys are off the plane and in country. But judging by the amount of guns and
journalists around it's not another country, it's another world; no matter how much you follow the
American game, sometimes you forget what the game is like in the rest of the world.
Enjoy the preview from ESPN because you certainly aren't going to see the game on ESPN (or anywhere
else without a cover charge). If you are in LA though may I recommend you get down with the
Galaxy's viewing party at the Off Campus Pub in Carson, one of only two venue's in SoCal that will
be carrying the game (and the only one in English).
What do you guys think? Should there be a concert effort to get the Scottish football following
public behind Scotsman Stuart Holden and the U.S. at the World Cup? Or is it too hokey to play the
ethnic card? Discuss.
In a show of support for Chuck D. and in solidarity with The Baltimore Brigade, and a number of
other bloggers & tweeters out there in the American soccersphere, I'm encouraging anyone attending
tonight's match vs. Costa Rica at RFK to print one of these out and hold it aloft in the 9th
minute.
Is there is no rest for the World Cup-bound? In addition to tomorrow night's qualifier finale
against Costa Rica, the Yanks will march on to Aarhus in November for a friendly versus Denmark on
the 18th. There is also talk of matches in the spring against the Dutch and the English...to which
I say "bring it".
Join Chris, Mike and Martin as they look back at D.C. United's two matches against the Philadelphia
Union, including the overtime loss in the Open Cup, and their 1-0 win in Philadelphia. The boys
also talk about the US Men's National Team and cover some MLS news.
A day in the life of FC Dallas' Brek Shea & his former club teammate Dax McCarty is about so much
more than standout hair color and driving around town bumping Lil Wayne & Massive Attack. It's also
about applying liberal amounts of sunblock to Dax's freckled self, playing XBOX with your roommate,
eating PB& J sandwiches, making anyone in the car other than yourself pay for the petrol and
occasionally playing soccer.
Last night the USÂ Men played the Czech Republic in our backyard before more than 36k.Â
Because we were at the game last night, we thought we would revisit some of the business aspects of
the match in East Hartford.  The total attendance was extremely impressive and the crowd was
dominated by fans of the American team.
Question: do you think any of the people in this picture other than Clint Dempsey will make Bobby
Blue Eyes' World Cup squad? I've thought about it and I honestly don't know. I think Jose Torres
has the best shot followed by Run-DMB, providing he stays healthy and hot at Rangers.
Fanhouse's Brian Strauss tracked down Robbie Rogers a.k.a The Ohio Player to get his thoughts on
qualifying, Bobby Blue Eyes and mortality. It's a pretty good read; if I'm using the Irvine Welsh
Scale Of Readable Textsâ„¢ I'd say it's better than Glue but not nearly as
brilliant/messed up as Filth.
See, I like this kid. He can play a 'lil ball but he's also funny and can talk a little trash.
Brian Ching on the hand might not be too fond of him though after this interview.
Read this piece in the LA Times about Charlie Davies being "irreplaceable". Note the conspicuous
absence of The Striker Who's Name Shall Not Be Spokenâ„¢. If ever there was a time for him to get
his ass in gear and remind all of us that he used to be somebody, this is it.
Event though Conor Casey only one goal behind Jeff "The Jet" Cunningham and scored a brace at
Honduras he's still gets no love. It's kind of a shame but since, according the vaunted Reagan-era
pop artist & relationship expert Patricia Benatar, "love is a battlefield" I guess that's not all
bad.
