Back to sport...

0
Right so back to matters sporting...Everton were pretty unlucky not to beat boro at the weekend. Very annoying, an early lapse cost us a goal in the first ten minutes and from then on in we dominated the game. It was an annoying afternoon realy but Yakubu finally popped up with an equaliser.

Two points dropped really but other results seemed to go our way so we stayed in position in the mix with Villa. Click to continue reading...

Is this the strangest jersey of all time?

4
This is the home shirt of Paris' top rugby team, Stade Francais. According to the Guardian, this Warhol-esque design features Blanche de Castille - wife of Louis VIII and mother to Louis IX. This latest shirt from the club and its publicity-hungry president comes on the heels of  other attention-grabbers including bright pink away shirts, brown [. Click to continue reading...

video El futbol es para niƱas

4

"I understand Hackett told ref Mark Halsey to rescind the card and he wouldn't. So now he Is refereeing in League Two this weekend."

"I do not understand how this has happened. If it had been a Manchester United player, Hackett would not have done this."

Le Havre

0
We have to go all the way back to 1872 to find the birth of Le Havre, making them the oldest club in France. However much of that early period was spent playing rugby and it wasn't until 1894 that football became the primary obsession. They are sometimes referred to as club doyen du football français - basically the old man of French football - but this is a questionable title unlikely ever to be definitely resolved due to the limited historical data from that time frame and the regularity with which clubs bounced between the different football codes. From the West County Journal in St Louis comes Revenue shortfall makes Sportport's future uncertain

On Football vs. American Football (gridiron) - Part 1

0
I've just come across a news story on Yahoo titled, "Grads in pads: First U.S. national football team prepares for trip to Japan". I've linked to the article for your reading pleasure – I for one, did not even begin to devote my time to it. Good on 'em for trying to export gridiron to different parts of the world, but for crying out loud, we've had a men's national football team since 1885 and played our first sanctioned match against Sweden in 1916. Slams

Had a nice day on Saturday watching three matches of rugby. The fact that I've given up beer for lent dampened things somewhat but not really that muxh. Was in Bangor, North Wales for my brother-in-law's stags do and the Welsh grand-slam was top of the menu.

World Cup 2018 - Could Australia's bid fail due to rugby?

0
Although England is the front-runner for 2018 World Cup hosting duties, there are still a number of other countries in the mix. Perhaps the nation with the best outside shot of taking the finals is Australia, but first they will need to convince their rugby leagues to take a five week break.

For those that don't know, rugby is the king of sports in Australia and the owners (or at least main tenants) of just about every large stadium in the country. Click to continue reading...

A sign of kits to come?

It has recently come to our attention that Adidas, that bastion of sports apparel for so many years, has... well... how can we put it... adopted a corporate policy of giving free hallucinogenics to all its employees.

If you don't believe us, take a look at this shirt currently being worn by French rugby union club Stade Francaise. Click to continue reading...

In praise of the 'round ball game'

2
One of the things that makes my life interesting is that my wife was born in New Zealand. It therefore follows that she sees things from a distinctly non-British angle that adds a nice element of variety to your day-to-day existence.

As her husband, I've had to come to terms with one thing above all others - her compulsion for watching Rugby Union at every opportunity. Click to continue reading...

Unbelievable. Stunning result. To everyone who's spent the last 4 years reveling in taking the piss out of England...Hope you enjoyed it 'cause believe me it didn't feel 0.000001% as good as today did. Not crowing, not gloating, just letting everyone know how good we are feeling.

- Mark Zeigler of the San Diego Union-Tribune has written a great piece about the US Soccer Federation, it's recent history between the players and former US Women's head coach April Heinrichs, and the hiring process of Greg Ryan. Apparently Ryan was the one coach that none of the players wanted. Click on the link to read the rest, it's well worth it. Click to continue reading...

Apologize for the brevity, but there's not little happening off and plenty going on the pitch today which is how I like it and how it should be.

- Lithuania will appeal the two-ban match on midfielder Saulius Mikoliunas for diving.

The Daily Madness: A fix in Africa?, Supporter falls to death, Hamburger SV fans can now support team in afterlife, & more

- Ugandans are awfully suspicious this morning. Needing South Africa to either beat or draw with Zambia in Capetown to qualify for the 2008 African Cup of Nations, the Bafana Bafana failed to do either, losing 1-3 to the Chipolopolo. The South Africans beat Zambia, 1-0, at Lusaka in October of last year. Does Uganda really have any right to complain? Click to continue reading...

*sigh*

God that was a pitiful start to the weekend's sport :

Australia 136-2 (14.5 overs) bt England 135 (20 overs) by eight wickets

Not good at all....they basically made mincemeat of us. You almost expected that Australia were going to put us out. If anyone could have done it (136 from 9 overs required to destroy our run rate) it's them. Click to continue reading...

Big games tomorrow

BBC SPORT | Rugby Union | English | England v South Africa (Fri):

"With Jonny Wilkinson and Olly Barkley both sidelined, Mike Catt, 36 on Monday, will start at fly-half, with Andy Farrell alongside him as a second playmaker and the team's principal goal-kicker."

Common sense has prevailed there I think but still not too happen with a 36 year old with a bad back as our fly-half. Click to continue reading...

Another great night to be a sports fan...more entertaining matches in the rugby world cup which really is shaping up well. The less established nations are giving great accounts of themselves and the crowds seem to be having the time of their lives. Highlights are available here.

It seems that England are going to take to the field on Friday with *drum roll* Andy Farrell at fly-half. Click to continue reading...

Great days

Ah does it get better than this :

Important games in footy, rugby and cricket on the one day. Our apetite had been well and truly whetted by Argentina's fantastic performance against France the night before...they really worked themselves into the ground for that.
