Referee Mark Clattenburg suffered an embarrassing moment during yesterday's encounter between Reading and Liverpool when he realised he had forgotten his cards. Clattenburg forgot to bring his notepad and yellow and red cards out for the second-half of the match. He only realised he had left the items in his dressing room when he attempted [.
A 2-0 home defeat to Burnley will have hurt Millwall's players but Tottenham loanee Adam Smith felt it worse than most. The 21-year-old discovered the dangers of running at pace towards the edge of the pitch in icy conditions. Smith ended up flying over the advertising hoardings in painful fashion. Thankfully he was able [.
VILLANOVA, Pa. - The William and Mary women's soccer team recorded its fourth-straight
victory with a 1-0 triumph at Villanova on Friday morning. Senior Mallory Schaffer provided the
game-winner off an assist from classmate Cortlyn Bristol in the 80th minute. The win improves the
College's record to 4-2, while Villanova falls to 1-4-2.
Three Second-Half Goals Power Tribe Past Spiders Courtesy TribeAthletics.com WILLIAMSBURG, Va.
- The William and Mary women's soccer team defeated Richmond, 3-0, Wednesday night at Martin
Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. In second-half action, W&M netted three goals in the span of

As you know I posted up the "Tweet" that Florent Malouda posted stating that he was banished
to train with the U21's for the remainder of his Chelsea contract.
Since then it seems that Lyon are keen to offer Malouda a way out of the club as it's obvious that
he doesn't fit into RDM's plans for the season.
This afternoon Florent Malouda has revealed that he is to train for the remainder of the season
with Chelsea's U21's and confirming that unless he leaves, he will take no further part in Di
Matteo's plans for the season.
He confirmed the news a short time ago on Twitter as below:
I have to say his "tweet" will not impress the Chelsea management at all but I guess you can
understand his frustrations.
Finally! We started publishing the odds over a month ago and since then the same roster of 10
playoff teams have been favored to make the playoffs, and by a pretty good margin. In the first
edition I pointed out that the best chance at a shakeup was Columbus displacing Chicago.
The Philadelphia Union have announced that they have agreed to a mutual contract termination
with forward Jorge Perlaza. Perlaza joined the Union this season in a trade which sent MLS
Superdraft first overall pick Danny Mwanga to Portland. This move should come as a surprise to no
one. Perlaza had not played or been available as a sub for the last ten Union games.
Despite the ESPN announcers perversely going on about Chivas making a run at the playoffs
despite a heavy loss to the Galaxy, the jockeying at this point continues to be more about seeding
than about the playoff participants. Chicago is starting to run away with the last slot in the
East.
I'm going to start these a little sooner this season, in part because nothing else is going on
this week (kidding!) and in part because the playoff race - at least the question of who is and who
isn't in the playoffs - is resolving remarkably early this year. If we define a team as being in
contention for a playoff spot if it has between a 20 and 80% chance of making it in, then our first
State of the Run In last season in late August had 4 teams in contention - DC United, Houston, New
York, and Chivas USA.
Gavin Wilkinson famously set a target of 45 points upon becoming the Portland Timbers' Interim
Head Coach, saying it was a reasonable expectation an attainable goal for the rest of the
season.
Two dreadful performances later, few Timbers fans would consider 45 points remotely possible.
And indeed the updated end of season projections here on Stumptown Footy predict the team finishing
with somewhere between 25 and 32 points.
Toronto FC started the season with three Designated Players. None of the three will finish the
season on the field with the club.
With Julian de Guzman traded to Dallas and Danny Koevermans out for the season with a torn ACL
comes word that captain Torsten Frings will be forced to miss the remainder of the season with a
hip injury that requires arthroscopic surgery.
Apparently, with just under 2 weeks in the transfer window to go, Toronto FC is on the verge of
signing 24-year old American forward Quincy Amarikwa.
The Up Side : He's young, he's probably cheap, he's a forward and most importantly, he's a
PLAYER. Toronto's roster is badly depleted and with a lack of depth at defense as well as a lack of
anyone up front, so this is a good move.
Resurging Toronto FC have been dealt a big blow in their quest to get out of the basement in the
Eastern Conference, as striker Danny Koevermans has been ruled out for the remainder of the
season.
Toronto FC announced Monday that Koevermans will miss the rest of the year after suffering a
torn ACL in his left knee during the club's 1-0 loss to the New England Revolution on Saturday.
From the days of the Minnesota Thunder playing Real Salt Lake in USOC matches or when the NSC
Stars played the Austin Aztex in the USSF D2 Pro League, whenever Jamie Watson touched a ball for
those opposing sides, Minnesota pro soccer fans would chant, "You dive like Jamie Watson." The
chant was started after [.
FC Dallas Homegrown forward Ruben Luna will join the NASL's San Antonio Scorpions this week for
the remainder of 2012. Dallas can recall Luna any time, if needed.
The post Ruben Luna Loaned to NASL's San Antonio Scorpions appeared first on 3rd Degree.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. New England Revolution forward Saer Sene became the first player for the Revs
to score double-digit goals in one season on Wednesday evening in a 3-3 draw with Chivas USA. Sene
scored two goals in the game and looked a threat before pulling up in the second half grabbing his
knee.
There have been stories of Marco Pappa joining Dutch side SC Heerenveen. There have been stories
of Marco Pappa joining EPL club Wigan in the winter. It turns out the full story is a mix of the
two. Pappa will join SC Heerenveen at the conclusion of the 2012 MLS Regular Season.
The Dutch league should suit Pappa better than the EPL so this is a very good move.
Sacha Kljestan has scored in league play in MLS and Belgium, for the U.S. men's national team
and in the UEFA Europa League. He can now add UEFA Champions League goalscorer to his resume.
Kljestan scored the opening goal and assisted on the second tally in Anderlecht's 6-0 rout of
Lithuanian side Ekranas in a UCL third-qualifying-round match on Wednesday, a win that sealed an
11-0 aggregate victory and puts Anderlecht within one round of the UCL group stage.
The LA Galaxy have known for months that they would have to find a way to get Chad Barrett off
their payroll in order to fit all the salaries they had compiled on their roster for 2012, and on
Monday it appears they have finally found a way to make that move happen.
The Galaxy have sent Barrett on loan to Valarenga for the remainder of the 2012 MLS season,
Galaxy writer Adam Serrano confirmed on Monday night.
Teenage striker Adam Morgan scored a crucial second half equalizer to rescue Liverpool from
defeat but it wasn't enough to ensure a winning start to the club's North American tour in
Toronto.
After a rather uneventful first half, MLS outfit Toronto FC took the lead 13 minutes following
the interval as Quincy Amarikwa effortlessly slotted home a rebounded effort.
The Portland Timbers made one roster adjustment in preparation for their match with the Los Angeles
Galaxy on July 14, recalling forward Bright Dike from the Los Angeles Blues of USL Pro. Dike was
outstanding in his short stint with the Blues, scoring six goals in 10 matches. To keep their
roster in compliance with MLS rules, the Timbers sent defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste to the Blues on
loan for the remainder of the 2012 season, but he can be recalled at any point.
On Sunday, MLS announced the first 11 players that will compile the MLS All-Stars roster for the
midsummer showcase against Chelsea.
The most notable selection of the 11 being LA Galaxy ace Landon Donovan, who will be making a
record-breaking 12th consecutive All-Star Game appearance.
Galaxy teammate David Beckham will join Donovan, along with Thierry Henry, Dwayne De Rosario,
and Chris Wondolowski, to name a few.
After a week off, the Power Rankings are back here at WVH. Only a few moves to really talk about
this week as the top four remained in the top tier. Only one club moved up a tier while the bottom
two clubs look like they could be joining the third tier here shortly.
Team Rank (Last) Record (W-L-T) Comments Top Tier (teams seen to be head and shoulders above the
rest) 1 (1) 11-4-4 37 pts.
Now that we've more or less reached the halfway point in the 2012 season, it's time to start
looking at the playoff odds generated by our season simulation. As a reminder, I simulate the
remainder of the MLS season 10,000 times based on a team's home and away goal scoring results,
weighted for recent games.
If the MLS season were to end today, few could argue that New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Ryan
Meara has been the top rookie of the 2012 class.
Meara has performed consistently well through the first half of his first year as a
professional, avoiding the type of blunders that are associated with young goalkeepers while
playing every minute for a Red Bulls team fighting for first place in the Eastern Conference.
For the neutrals it must have been a good game, for us it was another "typical" Chelsea display in
a game that on paper, Chelsea should have won easily.
Now I mean no disrespect to Reading and their fans at all when I say that, but let's put things
into perspective here. A newly promoted side come to Stamford Bridge on a Wednesday night, on
Chelsea's first appearance at the Bridge since winning the Champions League and with plenty of
attacking talent on the pitch, surely it's a home banker isn't it?
Before most fans had ever heard of Massimo Luongo, his first appearance in the Spurs spotlight
was to miss the vital penalty in our Carling Cup tie with Stoke last season. With apologies for
even mentioning that, it's pleasing to report that the player's reputation enhanced throughout the
remainder of the campaign.
Fans in the United States will no longer have to worry about U.S. men's national team World Cup
qualifiers being shown on pay-per-view.
New sports network beIN Sport announced in a press release Wednesday that it has acquired
exclusive rights to televise the national team's road qualifiers for the remainder of the 2014
World Cup cycle, starting with the final two matches of this round, Sept.
Tim Krul will be joining the Newcastle squad in Germany for the remainder of the first of
their two mini-European tours in this pre-seaosn. Tim Krul in action last season we must have just
scored! The Newcastle Assistant Manager John Carver had this to say to the Newcastle Journal
this morning: "All of the lads who were at Euro 2012 or played in World Cup qualifiers [.
RICHMOND, VA – Matthew Delicate became Richmond's all-time leading scorer with a stoppage time
penalty kick as the Kickers secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over the Dayton Dutch Lions.
Entering the match as a 65th minute substitute, Delicate had a number of close calls before scoring
his 64th goal in a Richmond uniform.
The U.S. WNT finished up the on-field portion of its pre-Olympic training camp in Darlington with a
closed door training match against Norway. The Norwegians, who failed to qualify for the Olympics
after finishing third in Group D behind Brazil and Australia, were kind enough to drop down to
England for the scrimmage.
FK Željezničar Sarajevo midfielder Nermin Zolotić suffered the sort of broken leg destined to sicken millions of YouTube viewers during this week's Bosnia-Herzegovina Premier League match with HK Zrinjski Mostar. The 19-year-old ended up with the lower section of his leg trapped underneath the boot of an opponent, with the remainder of his leg at [.
So the Champions League draw has been made and Chelsea face Shakhtar Donetsk, Juventus and
Nordsjælland. What looked like being the group of death doesn't look so bad now.
Here is the remainder of the draw as per a screen shot from uefa.com
Not that they matter one iota, but England have moved up into third place in FIFA's World
Rankings an all-time high despite not playing a single competitive game in the month of July.
Yep. Due to whatever ridiculous algorithms FIFA use to construct their pointless dung heap,
now only Germany and all-conquering reigning World and double European champions Spain are above
Roy Hodgson's boys in the standings.
After the big news of Troy Perkins' trade today the Timbers still practiced at their Beaverton
training facility. Perkins was sighted briefly before practice as he stopped by to say goodbye to
his teammates and clean out his locker.
Donovan Ricketts, who was picked up in exchange for Perkins, will practice with the team for the
first time on Friday, according to Gavin Wilkinson.
Reigning Primera División Uruguaya champions Club Nacional de Football has launched its Umbro
third kit for the remainder of the 2012 season. The new kit joins the Nacional Umbro 2012...
A few weeks ago Ryan and I shared our competing mathematical models projecting the table as we
believe it will look like by the end of the season. Since then a lot of things have happened that
have thrown those earlier projections right out the window.
For example, the LA Galaxy have gone on a bit of a run, winning four of their last six and
climbing up the table in the process.
A statement on the players own website, issued this evening, makes clear that he will not be
renewing his existing contract.
In a message to the fans, van Persie said:
"This is an update for the fans about my current situation. I have kept quiet all this time
out of respect and loyalty for the club and as agreed with Mr.
