The 2013 MLS All-Star game will not be played at Livestrong Sporting Park after all.
No, the game is not being moved out of Kansas City, but the name of the $200 million soccer mecca is slated to change according to ESPN.com as the outlet is reporting that Sporting Kansas City and the stadium's sponsor, the Livestrong Foundation, are severing ties.
Just 22 months after Sporting Kansas City gave the naming rights to their new $200 million stadium to Livestrong over a six-year period for free and promised millions in donations to fight cancer, the deal has come to a premature end with both sides claiming they were the ones to do the terminating.
The saga surrounding Sporting KC's stadium name rights sponsor, Livestrong took another turn this past week, as on November 4th, Lance Armstrong resigned from his position on the board of directors for Livestrong. The resignation cuts all formal ties between Armstrong and the charity that he had helped found.
When Major League Soccer was founded in 1996, many skeptics doubted its future arguing that there was no room for professional soccer in the United States.
At that time, many of these new teams played in giant NFL stadiums as a result the atmosphere at games suffered because even with a decent crowd of 20,000, there were always at least 50,000 empty seats.
Winning isn't always pretty, good teams find a way to take care of business. Yesterday at
Livestrong Sporting Park, KC didn't have the greatest game, but were able to over come that and
beat Toronto FC 2-1. The blue print for shutting down KC almost played out to perfection for TFC,
without Torsten Frings and Eric Hassli in the lineup, TFC was able to hold their own, but in the
end KC had just too much possession and too many chances and finally found the net.
With 8 games left in the season, Sporting KC is currently 3 points out of the race for the
Supporters' Shield. Behind San Jose, KC doesn't have many games that you can immediately look at
and say "oh yeah that should be a win," but tomorrow night at Livestrong Sporting Park, KC has one
of those games.

While we are definitely not implying that any member of Sporting KC is involved with any kind of
doping - someone should really be looking into that Lance Armstrong endorsed stadium of theirs.
Here's this week's comparison for home games. Through 13 home games, Kansas City has once again
gotten another sellout at Livestrong keeping the 2012 season well ahead of last year's pace for the
most well attended season.

In a follow up to the news that came out last night regarding Lance Armstrong and him giving up his
battle against the USADA, Sporting's CEO, Robb Heineman made a statement today.
Here is Robb's statement: "The naming rights partnership between our stadium and LIVESTRONG
provides an opportunity to spread health and wellness messages that emphasizes the spirit of cancer
So Lance Armstrong is no longer going to fight the US Anti-Doping Agency and the charges that
they've brought against him for doping. With that announcement tonight, it has brought out the
questions again with regards to Sporting KC and the naming of their stadium as LiveSTRONG Sporting

At the start of the season I posted this open letter to the players of Sporting Kansas City pouring
a bit of my heart into how I felt heading into the season. Today, the day of the US Open Cup final
my feelings haven't changed. As Robb said last night, I'm one of those that endured the empty
cavern, the poor sight lines and screamed about the name change.
The 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final on Wednesday, Aug. 8, will be broadcast live on
The finale of the 99th U.S. Open Cup kicks off at 8 p.m. CT at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in
Kansas City, Kan., as three-time defending U.S. Open Cup champion Seattle Sounders FC faces host
Sporting Kansas City.
Sporting Kansas City will aim to end the Seattle Sounders' three-year reign as U.S. Open Cup
champions in Wednesday night's final, but exactly what Honduras Olympic hero Roger Espinoza's role
will be in helping the club try to accomplish that is uncertain.
Last night at Livestrong Sporting Park, Kansas City played their second friendly of the season
against Stoke City of the English Premier League. With a team made up mainly of the Swope Park
Rangers, Sport held their own against the Premier League side drawing 1-1 in what would probably be
considered a fair result.
KC is back home again when they'll take on the Crew at Livestrong Sporting Park. Kansas City
continues to struggle to find the back of the net. They've gone 325 minutes without find the back
of the net in a league game at home, the second longest streak in team history. A streak only
topped by a streak at the end of the 1998 through the beginning of the 1999 season.
Another over capacity crowd at Livestrong Sporting Park saw Sporting KC's 0-0 draw with the New
England Revolution. Just over 19,000 were at LSP last night for the game, keeping Sporting KC's
average attendance this year over the announced capacity of the stadium.
It's been about 24 hours since Sporting KC clinched their spot in the US Open Cup final this year.
And this morning tickets went on sale for Sporting KC season ticket holders for the game at 10am.
By noon, only 2 hours after tickets had gone on sale, Robb Heineman announced on Twitter that 8,186
tickets had been sold for the game already.
The Seattle Sounders will travel to Kansas City's Livestrong Sporting Park on August 8, 2012, to
take on Sporting KC in their attempt to become the first ever team to win four consecutive US Open
Cup titles. Seattle defeated Chivas USA in the semifinal by a 4-1 score with four different goal
scorers: Osvaldo Alonso, Brad Evans, Sammy Ochoa, and Eddie Johnson.

Another over capacity crowd at Livestrong Sporting Park last night saw KC have their 7th straight
sellout and 8 of 9 this season at LSP. KC continues to have an above capacity average attendance
for the 2012 season. Here's a look at the attendance through 9 home games for Sporting KC.
Three of Sporting Kansas City's four players on international duty had games scheduled last night,
but only one of those 3 saw the field. Roger Espinoza's Honduras teammates were in Cuba for a
mid-day kick off in their World Cup qualifier. Espinoza had to sit out the game due to his red card
against Brazil in the Olympics.
The Roger Espinoza news continues today as Honduras announced their roster for the upcoming
World Cup qualifiers on September 7th and 11th, both against Cuba. Even though he's suspended for
their first game on the 7th due to his red card in the Olympics again Brazil, Espinoza has been
named to the roster.
This week was an off week for the Chicago Fire. As I mentioned on Friday, there were a couple of
matches that could impact the Fire and their place in the Eastern Conference. There were a few
favorable results for the Fire this weekend as well as a few blowouts and a hat-trick. A quick
rundown of this weekend's action after the jump.
The Roman philosopher, rhetorician and satirist Apuleius is well-know (though perhaps not by
name because to save us all time, I went ahead, looked up who said this quote and replied "Who?")
for the quote, "Familiarity breeds contempt, while rarity wins admiration."
In my research, I also discovered that Apuleius is also well-known for saying: "He is better
equipped for life, as for swimming, who has the less to carry.
Jay Bell took in the game then ran around grabbing sound bytes like a squirrel
stocking nuts for the winter.
The story off the field of last night's dramatic US Open Cup final victory for Sporting Kansas
City is easy to write. A multi-year process was undertaken by Robb Heineman and Sporting Club,
formerly OnGoal, LLC, to re-brand the Kansas City Wizards as Sporting Kansas City and build a
progressive Major League Soccer franchise.
The Columbus Crew offense has struggled to generate goals on a regular basis, a problem the team
has had going back to last year, but Robert Warzycha's side may have found the answer to that
problem in the form of Costa Rican striker Jairo Arrieta.
The newly-signed forward showed just what he can do this past weekend, scoring a pair of quality
goals, including this long-range strike, to help the Crew post a vital 2-1 victory over Sporting
Kansas City at Livestrong Sporting Park.
The Olympics got started over the weekend and the NBC networks have certainly used the
opportunity to promote both Major League Soccer and the NBC Sports Network. Commercials for both

The New England Revolution overcame a makeshift line-up to put on a decent showing on the road
against the Eastern Conference-leading Sporting Kansas City, but couldn't find the back of the net
in settling for scoreless draw on Saturday night at Livestrong Sporting Park.
When the U.S. Men's National Team takes on Guatemala at Livestrong Sporting Park next month in World Cup qualifying, there will be more on the line than a spot in the Hexagonal round of CONCACAF qualifying. The stadium the game is being played in will be competing for a new role as the national team's preferred home for marquee qualifiers.
There will be no Y'allapalooza at Livestrong Sporting Park this year. The concert which was set to
be held on September 9th at Livestrong Sporting Park, and feature Dierks Bentley and Big & Rich has
been moved to Cricket Wireless Amphitheater (Sandstone) to protect the field at LSP. This is good
news for Sporting fans as it's one less time the field has to be covered.

Toronto FC's scheduled match against Columbus on Saturday has been postponed to allow the Crew
organization to attend funeral services for Kirk Urso. Urso, Columbus' rookie midfielder died
suddenly last Saturday and the club requested the fixture change from the league and TFC.
Sporting K.C. midfielder Paulo Nagamura converted a controversial second chance at his club's
final penalty to help break Seattle's three-year grip on the U.S. Open Cup win a 1-1 win (3-2
on penalties) in Wednesday's final at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.
Nagamura, whose first attempt was stopped by Michael Gspurning on the right post, was handed a
do-over by the referee after it was ruled that Seattle's keeper came off his line early.
