Giantkillers Oldham's FA Cup adventure ended in a 3-1 defeat at Everton. The Latics faced an uphill battle from the moment Kevin Mirallas gave the Toffees an early lead. Former Everton player Jose Baxter almost levelled, but his curled effort hit the inside of Tim Howard's post and bounced out. Goals from Leighton Baines and [.
Today was a watermark moment in world soccer. And, with great difficulty but complete honesty, I
believe that today marks the final evidence that England is no longer a soccer giant.
Depending on which side of the fence you sit on, this may seem like common sense or complete
hypocrisy.
I was going to pick out some interesting facts about the All-Star Game and make some lists out
of them (three Colombian MLS All-Stars: Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Fredy Montero, Wilman Conde). But I
thought it might be more valuable to readers just to have the rosters, especially Everton's. So
here they are:
EVERTON FC

Tim Howard, goalkeeper, New Brunswick, N.
Portsmouth defender Sam Sodje got all hot and bothered and smacked Oldham goalscorer Jose Baxter not once but twice in the sack and deservedly received his marching orders as Oldham beat Pompey 1-0 on Saturday.
Oldham beat Portsmouth 1-0 on Saturday with the game's only goal coming in the 11th minute, but the strangest moment (of any match that day) came in the 50th minute when Pompey defender Sam Sodje was shown a red card for smacking scorer Jose Baxter in the crotch. Twice.
Prior to League One side Oldham Athletic's FA Cup fifth round match against Everton, the club's caretaker manager and chief executive posted a notice in the dressing room telling players not swap shirts with their opponents after the game. The financially strained club's "severe shortage of first team home shirts" was cited as the reason for the request.
Liverpool's Jamie Carragher scored twice, once for either side, in his testimonial game
at Anfield. The Liverpool defender, who has been at the club for the past 14 years, had
hoped he could raise one million pounds for his 23 Foundation from the game and a gala dinner, with
proceeds going to local groups and charities.
With Fabio Capello at the helm, there is no doubt in my mind that England's football future is
looking bright. Of course being Italian I'm a bit biased, but Don Fabio is a winner and as such,
the man usually likes to pick players who are winners themselves. No one will dispute that John
Terry, [...]
Tonight saw the first episode of Desperate Scousewives, the latest dose of regional reality drama
hitting our screens in Britain. One of the stars of the show is Amanda Harrington, the former WAG
of Everton's Jose Baxter as well as Joey Barton (reportedly)... Â No prizes for guessing what the
day job is for the young lady.
Everton have confirmed that striker Jermaine Beckford has left the club in a £3 million deal.
The transfer sees Beckford drop down a division to the Championship as he joins Sven Goran
Eriksson's Leicester City side. Beckford failed to make the grade at Goodison Park, often
frustrating Toffees fans by missing countless goalscoring opportunities.

Jose Baxter's stoppage time fierce drive which struck the underside of the crossbar and crossed the
line took the three points for Andy Holden's side, but it was tough on Liverpool who created some
decent openings in the second half.
Mini match report: A useful exercise for Everton, this, even if the result
didn't go their way. With David Moyes' side already through to the last 32, he could afford to
blood some of his youngsters and blood them he did, putting out a team whose average age would have
been ridiculously low were it not for the appearance of 36-year-old keeper Carlo Nash.

I first saw Jose Baxter as a substitute for Leon Osman in the second half in a defeat to
Portsmouth. I had a little surprise when i heard the commentator mentioned that Jose Baxter is 16

EPL Talk reader EPLNFL was at last night's friendly between Chicago Fire and Everton at Toyota
Park. Here's his mini-report from the game: "As a Fire fan I had a great time with a 2-0
Chicago victory. As a EPL fan I was disappointed in Everton and the quality of play. They were

In 1965 these players were plying their trade. Ferenc Puskas, Garrincha, Pele, Bobby Charlton,
George Best, Franz Beckenbauer, Eusebio, Johan Cruyff, Alfredo Di Stefano and Gerd Muller. With
more than some arguments, from Argentines especially, this could be considered an all time top 10
list. Surely this was the golden age of football, talent wise?
Liverpool Reserves maintained their three-point lead over Everton at the top of the Barclays
Premier Reserve League after the two teams played out a 1-1 draw in the mini derby on Tuesday

battling display against a Blues side that contained several first-team fringe players.

was confirmed on Tuesday morning. Baxter, 17, was one of three men arrested in Kirkby on Monday on

You can guarantee that the Liverpool fans who'd braved the snow to travel up the M62 (and round the M60) for their FA Cup tie at Oldham were not expecting the highlight of their afternoon to be seeing a former Everton player fall over. Alas, that's the way it worked out. Jose Baxter was the [...]

They're away to West Brom.
Nottingham Forest, playing at home, lead Watford 2-1.
