Barcelona duo Cesc Fabregas and Jordi Alba, as well as Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa, have
paid a glowing tribute to all those who have been a part of Spanish football's triumph in the last
four years.
Spain went from a trophy-less wonder to a record-breaking football nation after winning an
unprecedented trio of consecutive international titles between June 2008 and July 2012.
Today was Piermario Morosini's funeral. The Livorno midfielder died tragically five days ago on
the pitch of unknown causes with the autopsy proving inconclusive. But it is likely he suffered
from sudden cardiac arrest that claimed the lives of Marc Vivien Foe, Miklos Feher, Antonio Puerta,
Dani Jarque, and others before him.
Spain has had more than its fair share of on-field tragedies in the last few years, with the deaths
of Antonio Puerta and Jarque. There was cleary concern, therefore, when a ball boy collapsed

It's not often that football brings you to tears. While everyone has seen the fans crying on
television when their team are relegated or lose in a cup final, rarely does one see moments of
tears amongst raw emotion. Today, however, as Ruben de la Red announced his retirement, was one of
those rare moments.
After the tragic deaths of Antonio Puerta and Dani Jarque, and the indefinite retirement from
football by Ruben de la Red, Spanish football recieved another kick in the teeth with the
news that Sevilla defender Sergio Sanchez has to withdraw from all footballing
activity. The Andalucian club had carried out medical tests on all the whole first team squad, with
the young defender returning results that showed he suffers from a heart problem, the exact nature
of which is still unknown.
Fans line up at the Cornella El Prat to pay their respect to Dani Jarque
Spain paid its respect to Espanyol skipper Dani Jarque whose body was brought back to Barcelona
and lay in repose at the chapel of the Cornella- El Prat.
A number of clubs showed up to say farewell to the young defender who tragically died three days
ago at the age of 26 years of a sudden heart attack.
Over the weekend, 27 year old Carl-Erik Torp, a midfielder for SK Brann, suffered a dramatic
collapse on the pitch and was immediately stretchered off by the medical staff. He was treated with
a cardiac de-fibrillator unit in the locker room to get his heart beating again. Torp had come in
as a 70th minute sub in the match against Sogndal, another Bergen side, in a domestic league
game.
Andres Iniesta's last league game of 2010 took place at Estadi Cornella-El Prat.
And he was treated to the most emotional reception by Espanyol supporters.
The extract below is from a great article on goal.com about Andres tribute to his friend Dani
Jarque which helped many of us to briefly forget the cynicism and bad sportsmanship associated with
the World Cup and the modern game.
Evander Sno, 23 year old former Celtic midfielder now at Ajax collapsed on the field yesterday
while playing Vitesse in a reserve match. A defibrillator had to be used thrice to revive Sno who
apparently went into cardiac arrest possibly due to cardiac arrhyhthmias. He is now in hospital
recuperating.

Fernando Torres has spoken of his sadness following the death of former teammate Dani Jarque on
Saturday.
The Espanyol captain, who played alongside Torres when Spain won the European U19 Championships in
2002, died of a heart attack following a training session in Italy.
Torres said: "In these hard times I want to express my sincere condolences and I offer all my
support to Dani's family, friends and Espanyol teammates.
Spanish players and fans from all over are mourning the death of Espanyol captain, Dani
Jarque who passed away on Sunday due to heart failure. La Furia Roja's players gathered at
a hotel in Madrid yesterday before their away friendly to Macedonia and many were
noticeably reeling from the shock.
The Only Time Will Tell hit the road again on Sunday to go to see the most expensive team in the
world, Real Madrid. So the crew loaded up the car and headed to DC to see Madrid take on DC United.

Real Madrid midfielder Ruben de la Red was counseled to sit out the 2009-2010 season
after fainting in a match against Real Union Irun on October 30th last year. He is to undergo
testing every two months for a yet to be confirmed heart condition.
Today, he spoke about Dani Jarque.
"I am fortunate because what happened to Jarque could have happened to me.
Espanyol captain Daniel Jarque has died after he suffered a cardiac arrest following a training
session, the club have confirmed in a statement.
The 26-year-old midfielder had been training in Coverciano, Italy, where the squad are on a
pre-season camp.
Club doctors and Italian paramedics tried to revive Jarque without success.
Un'altra tragedia, pazzesca e senza un perchè. Il mondo del calcio e dello sport è sconvolta
dall'ennesima morte inaspettata, improvvisa e, che almeno per adesso, non ha un motivo. Ieri, a
Coverciano, dove era per un tour con la squadra, il difensore e capitano del club spagnolo
dell'Espanyol, Dani Jarque, è morto a seguito di un infarto.
Spain is officially the eighth nation to win the World Cup and best of all, they become the first
European nation to win the prestigious World Cup in the Southern hemisphere. Andres Iniesta was
brilliant throughout the match admidst very tough tackling by the Netherlands. He immediately
dedicated his goal and Spain's World Cup triumph to the late Dani Jarque who died from a heart
attack in August last year.
If there is any team in La Liga that deserves a good finish to the season it is likely Espanol.Â
The club has gone through a horrific last few months that puts frustrating season's on the pitch
into perspective. While training for the La Liga season captain Dani Jarque died on the pitch of
a heart attack in a preseason practice.
A touching moment during the Everton match as Cesc Fabregas holds up a jersey bearing Daniel
Jarque's number after scoring his second goal. The Espanyol skipper died tragically of a sudden
heart attack a week ago at the age of 26 plunging Spain into a pall of gloom.
yesterday I said that the Valencia game will help Wenger decide where he needs to get new
players in. The game ended in a 2-0 loss and as I didn't watch the match and have not as yet seen
any highlights, it is quite hard for me to comment on the game so I will leave that to the other
blogs around.
Before i begin my update i would like to offer my deepest sympathies to the family, friends and
team-mates of Espanyol club captain Daniel Jarque who died after he suffered a heart attack
following a training session yesterday. My thoughts are with them at this sad time.
Moving onto the title of this update only a couple of weeks ago hardly any Real Sociedad supporters
would have heard of Antoine Griezmann since he was in the youth set up and yet to even make the
step up to Sanse however with 4 goals in 2 pre-season friendlies he is the talk of San Sebastian.
The ferosha La Furia Rojahomems scored thrice in five minutes to give
Spain a 3-2 win over Macedônia last night. The match was filled with tributes to Dani Jarque as
players gathered for a minute of silence and dedicated their goals to him.
Reira, in particular, pointed to the sky in memory of his friend when he scored the winner.
Nice to be back after a few days away on relax. However the newsdoes not stop for a moment & the
biggest & saddest was the suddendeath of 26 year old Espanyol Captain Dani Jarque after an
unexplainedheart attack. There have been too many examples in such a shorttime that leads to too
many suspicious questions & calls for tightermedical examinations.
I'm sure you have heard on the back pages today that, Andy Gray and Richard Keys have
been accused of sexism. Here is the audio of the incident (Ignore the pointless intro)
Well done bellends!...Now for some statements via the BBC:
An FA statement said it had made "real strides in encouraging both male and female match
officials to enter the game at every level, and will continue to offer every encouragement to all
officials within the football family to progress to the highest levels possible".

I am happy to announce that it is time for the Yank's Weekly Picks.  And you know what that
means, right? That means it is also time for the start of La Liga football. And with all the
action going on in La Liga this off-season it feels like an eternity since last season finished.Â
In the first match of the season fans of La Liga will get to see what they have been waiting
for.
I think the first thing that needs to be said about yesterday's result is how much we clearly
missed Adebayor and Toure. It might have been eight with them and you know goal difference might
just be the difference between winning and losing this league. Wenger out.
Tragic news coming out of Spain as newly-appointed Espanyol captain Dani Jarque was found dead in
his Coviciana hotel room on Saturday night.
According to news sources, the centre-back is said to have suffered from heart failure during
Espanyol's pre-season tour of Italy while talking to his girlfriend on the telephone.
