Game Changer: Pretty Tough Girls Claim a Piece of Online Turf

Pretty Tough - Soccer at related • 0 views

Believe it or not, not every girl is a damsel in distress looking for Prince Charming. The days when girls were expected to play with dolls, wear pink dresses, have perfect hair, and be quiet and clean are long gone. Â For many girls, role models aren't delicate princesses but kick-butt women who surf twenty- foot waves, dunk basketballs, sail off vert ramps, hit homeruns, beat guys on the motor track and more.

Regular season USL-1 play has now concluded for 2009. The playoffs start tomorrow (Thursday). Sure it would have been nice to see Austin there; but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. We might as well get a head start on looking back.

Both of the league's expansion teams, the Austin Aztex and the Cleveland City Stars, fared poorly in their inaugural seasons, winding up at the bottom of the final standings:

You may have seen ads for Nothing But Nets, the charity supported by MLS (and NBA, VH-1 and WNBA, among others). The purpose of the group is pretty simple: buy insecticide-treated bed netting to distribute to malaria-stricken areas of the world. That netting, draped around their beds, protects people in those areas from mosquito bites and, more importantly, from the malaria they transmit.

Weymouth FC & The Nature Of A “Community Club”

Twohundredpercent at related • 0 views

There have been few phrases that have slipped more perniciously into the lexicon of British football in recent years as "community club". It is a phrase that rolls off the tongue easily, which offers a comforting mental image of a football club doing precisely what it should do, engaging with its community, playing a positive role with local people and, above all else, not being run by rapacious businessmen who would seek to take it for all it has before leaving it to wither and die when it has served its purpose.
