So the Iceland friendly was an audition for Gourcuff, and it essentially showed that he wasn't ready. He's been out a good portion of the last season with injury, and didn't look ready for the international level.

Yanga-Mbiwa had received his first call-up for France to be in the provisional squad, but Blanc is willing to take a risk of including just three central defenders in his squad: Rami, Mexes, and Koscielny.

France coach Raymond Domenech has named his 30-man provisional squad for this summer's World Cup.

The Frenchman's first curve-ball was to name a 30-man draft rather than the 23-man final cut he was expected to deliver meaning that seven players are still to be trimmed from the squad before the deadline on June 1st.

Lately, all that seems to be in the news is Yoann Gourcuff's social tribulations. His teammates don't like him, won't pass to him, refuse to eat with him, and won't partner with him during Playstation hour. The reason? Supposedly, it's because he looks like an underwear model, he's the darling of the media, the fans want to sleep with him (without getting paid for it), he comes from a wealthy background, and he's too nice of a guy to stand up for himself.

The Three Musketeers are no more...

Today FIFA turned down France's request to call-up Monaco's #1 goalkeeper, Ruffier, to replace Cedric Carrasso who  tore his left hamstring in training on Monday.  For Ruffier to join the Bleus, FIFA would have had to make an exception to their rule which states that teams may only callup new players to replace injured players until before they play their first game in the competition.

Lyon goes into the their second leg with Bordeaux up 3-1. In aggregate scoring that's a serious pain the butt to overcome. In fact, it's really hard to imagine any team being able to make up 3 goals while not allowing their opponent to score at all.

Les Bleus slipped to a 1-0 defeat on Tuesday in St Etienne amid continuous jeers from the sparse crowd.

Benzema and his fellow Lyon players were singled out for special attention at the home of their club's bitter rivals but he is confident similar scenes on and off the pitch will not be repeated tomorrow.

While Harry was known to favour older goalkeepers throughout his managerial career, a new boss may come in and start the quest for a long term replacement straight away.
