Alan Pardew has talked today about how Newcastle's major targets, Mathieu Debuchy, Vurnon
Anita and Andy Carroll are all keen to come to Newcastle this summer, if only the club can get
agreement on the transfer price with their clubs. Carver and Pardew explaining stuff to Davide
Santon The Debuchy deal seems deadlocked, but the local papers are reporting that Lille have
reneged on a deal agreed last week, that they would accept £6M plus add-ons for [.
We're always very happy to help the Newcastle Foundation with some of the publicity for theirÂ
social events coming up, and there's a really special event coming up in the week before the
Premier League season begins on 18th August when we play Tottenham at home, for our first three
points of the season.
The experienced Newcastle United skipper Fabricio Coloccini has told The Sun in an interview
today, that he expects Newcastle to carry on from their exploits of last season and be
challenging near the top of the league, and also challenge the other big clubs in England for
honors in the coming season.
Maybe Fabricio Coloccini hasn't yet got the word fully from Alan Pardew, that the plan this summer
is to significantly dampen expectations for next season, as once again the Newcastle captain has
come out and said the lads can have as good a season as the last one. Coloccini talks to coaches
Carver and Stone [.
It's not surprising that Alan Pardew  has been asked continually whether Newcastle will finish
in the top four this season. Carver and Pardew can take Newcastle into Europe next season? And of
course a few weeks back, before our five game winning streak that looked very unlikely, but not
any more, and with just 5 games to go Newcastle are [.
Newcastle gave another solid performance at Swansea on Friday afternoon, to come away with all 3
points and their third clean sheet in the last four straight victories. Newcastle's two top coaches
Carver and Pardew great job this season And if Newcastle are going to stretch that run to five
games, the defense [.
The stats that keep coming up is that Newcastle have but one win in the last eight games, andÂ
only 5 points  out of a possible 24. Carver and Pardew the two men in charge at Newcastle
That's not a good record, and nowhere near the 25 points we got out of the other 11 games in the
league. [...
As expected Alan Pardew has today talked to the Newcastle press corps again. Carver and
Pardew and other coaches have done great job on team spirit That follows a body blow to theÂ
Newcastle manager, when the Newcastle Board failed in their task to bring in top level
striker last week, to replace the departed young local star striker, Andy Carroll.
The next time fans will see Alan Pardew talk again  is probably this Thursday, when he gives his
news conference. Carver and Pardew excellent partnership for Newcastle And because of Alan's
stone cold silence since last Wednesday, when he was said to be unhappy and angry that the
Newcastle Board had failed to bring in a new top striker to the [.
Alan Pardew has given a pre=game interview to the official Newcastle web-site, and he certainly
seems up for the game against Arsenal tomorrow night. Great shot of Carver and Pardew watching the
training The game will kick off the season for the fans, who will get a first competitive look at
some of our new [.
Alan Pardew gave his post match interviews yesterday before Joey Barton sent those tweets Â
blasting the Newcastle hierarchy. Carver and Pardew Erdinc deal dead? And of course it will do
absolutely nothing to help Joey get a new deal at the club, and could even hasten his departure
from Newcastle. Jose Enrique was also [.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew seems to be excited about the future at St James' Park. Carver and
Pardew on the sidelines And Alan already knows full well, that the Geordie fans want to see
competition in Europe and sooner rather than later. Pardew talked about Europe to the Evening
Chronicle today: "We have got [.
So, there, Cummins is gone. Duane Rollins thinks his leaving won't account for much, following his
convincing argument the other day for Trader Mo's dismissal as sporting director.
Fine Cummins out, so can we stop the ex-lower level Luton/Newcastle parade now? These are the last
of clubs in a long line of Graham Taylor-Watford-Wimbledon eighties style Charles Reep football,
and follows a "we need this part to fit in this cog" line of thinking to work properly—you have
to have two centerbacks and they both have to be big, you need a poacher near goal with a runner in
behind him, and you need a classic lined up midfield to grease that 4-4-2.
Newcastle caretaker boss Chris Hughton has reflected on an emotionally few days at the club since
the great Sir Bobby Robson passed away on Friday. Carver with Bobby Robson during stint in charge
of Newcastle Chris thinks Newcastle players will emerge stronger characters after the death of Sir
Bobby Robson brought them closer together as a [.
I've delayed writing this for a number of reasons, mostly to be honest because I don't have
anything to add. But reading Jonathan Wilson's breakout article today on England's messiah complex
when it comes to the national team set-up, my thoughts have returned to the Mo Johnston/Preki
situation.
If I were someone else—say, a person who had carefully studied Preki's tactical approach over the
course of his season with Toronto FC this year, including formations, team sheets, substitutions
etcetera, or perhaps someone who had paid close attention to Mo Johnston's career in MLS and with
TFC, his management skills, his ability to pick players at the right time for the right purpose,
his understanding of the league of which he was a key player—I might be able to definitively lay
down the case that Tuesday's groundbreaking news will propel Toronto FC forward to previously
unreached heights.
----------"Oh my God! Someone ate Ali's 'McRib'! Look out!"
Speaking of the ever elusive McRib Sandwich, that little faux pork delicacy has had longer
visits to Toronto than Ali Gerba himself. Much like Ronald's limited time offers, Mo Johnston
pulled Gerba from the BMO Field shelf today too.
Reading the reader just now, and quite bemused reading in the Sweeper covering Mansfield Town's
"choose your own price" promotion to thank the fans for being so yada yada yada.
What would I voluntarily pay to watch Toronto FC? With Carver in charge, ten bucks. Cummins, meh,
fifteen. Preki I'd pay full price as a starter, more for curiosity.
------------------------The coveted Graham Legatt Trophy
The TFC Media League has come to an end as 2009 draws to a close. For those of you who may not have
followed the race, The Yorkies' TFC Media League is a competition to track which of Toronto's main
media outlets best covers Toronto FC through the year.
Today, in a total non-surprise, Chris Cummins departed Toronto FC as head coach. Mo Johnston
declared that the next head coach will have MLS experience, but the head coach search must wait
until after the MLS Cup game.
Mo also confirmed that he signed a 2.
Here in the US we like to break things into large portions. Halves in football, thirds in
hockey, quarters in basketball(eighth's only count in pizza). Which leads me to this; time to look
a deeper at some of this season's numbers as this week the MLS season has passed the quarter mark.
At this point in the season, you usually have a grasp of what hot teams are for real or which
wunderkind will have staying power.
Jon Carver is no longer the coach of Toronto FC. The club announced his resignation on Saturday
morning. Carver's coaching staff will remain in place while the club begins the process of filling
their head coach slot. Unlike any other Major League Soccer club, Toronto has a separate manager,
Mo Johnston, with the head coach running the team from the sidelines.
Finally - a rumour about an incoming centre half, albeit from MLS Rumors. According to the source
of this rumour, 28 year-old Ecuadorian international defender Jose Luis Perlaza is on trial with
us. He was in Ecuador's 2006 FIFA World Cup squad, and recently released from Centro Deportivo
Olmeido.
Another large group came out this afternoon at Lake Country Soccer for the annual Springfield SC
Alumni game. A good way for current college players to get a work out, there was also a nice group
of graduates including Wade Luethy and Jake Luria from Glendale, Patrick Carver and Brian Fishback
from Parkview and Michael Bennett from Kickapoo.

Once again this season, or more specifically this Winter season in New Zealand, the Upper Hutt
City squad has a representative from Springfield. This season Parkview graduate Patrick Carver is
playing in the New Zealand Premier League. He sent the photos along with the current standings,
which show Upper Hutt in 5th place currently.

It may turn out not to be as sketchy as it seems on paper but this kinda looks sketchy. Between
Carver's comments and this, MLS officiating is really having a rough week. Maybe it'd be a good
idea to cancel this week's games and send all the guys with FIFA badges on their shirts to a spa or
something in Sonoma to unwind with a bottle of chardonnay.

game reaction 4/26/2009
My personal favorite is the guy who sounds a little bit like Andrew Dice Clay yelling about what a
"disgrace it is.
We knew that, but he has elaborated in an interview with the Toronto Star. The last straw,
he says, was when MLS told him to go back to the sidelines instead of coaching from the boxes.
The comments are predictable. Some people never like their club's current coach, so those folks are
happy for the switch under any circumstances.
I have struggled with whether I want to continue writing for The Offside. My recent posts
indicate my frustrations, which may appear to be a little acrimonious. The truth isn't as harsh as
I make it out to be, honestly.
A few days ago I contacted the powers-that-be and proposed a new page for The Offside.
Time for another update from New Zealand where for the second straight season Springfield is
well represented. Here's how the Chairman of the Upper Hutt City Soccer program describes it in
their recent newsletter:
As many of you will know, we have another American import in our ranks this year,
Patrick Carver, who has followed in the footsteps of Andy Cooper and Brian Pasierb
last year in being a great ambassador for his country, and a great addition on the field for our
men's first team.
Tidbits that you can hear in the posted videos (more to come tomorrow since they are shutting down
the stadium):
-There is a locker room issue with Kljestan at the moment
-Thornton is lost weight
-Preki spoke with Carver and offered his best wishes upon hearing of the resignation
