Richmond Kickers vs. VSI Tampa Bay: Streaming, lineups, prediction, and GameThread

Black and Red United at related • 0 views

After winning last night against league-leading Orlando City SC 2-0, the undefeated Richmond Kickers travel southwest to take on VSI Tampa Bay. This is Tampa Bay's first season in USL Pro and they are competing locally with the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers of the NASL. With their stadium as far away from Tampa as Frisco is to Dallas, it is no surprise that their attendance numbers are low, averaging around 500 people per game.

The Last Word: DCU Lets Another Game Slip Away

The Black-and-Red lost on Saturday night 1-0 to the Vancouver Whitecaps at RFK Stadium in front of a paltry crowd of 13,122. It was a game that gave every fan just enough to confirm what they currently think about this team. For the pessimists, D.C. United was woeful with its final shot, only putting 4 of 23 shots on frame and continuing a streak that has seen it not score a goal in the course of play for six straight league matches (not since May 19 in the 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City).

D.C. United 0-1 Vancouver Whitecaps: Blown chances and referee Matthew Foerster the story

Black and Red United at related • 0 views

No way around it, referee Matthew Foerster is the lede tonight. His decision early in the second half to award the Vancouver Whitecaps a penalty led to the game's only goal. And it was 100%, absolutely, without any doubt the wrong call. If you saw it live, you probably knew it on the first look, and the replays confirm it: D.

Sometimes perception and reality are rather far apart. D.C. United's opponent tonight, the Vancouver Whitecaps, are a good example: There was recent talk of head coach Martin Rennie being on the hot seat, yet if the playoffs started today Vancouver would get in. In fact, of late they've gone 4W-1D-1L, winning their last two despite starting their fourth- and fifth-best center backs together due to injuries to Andy O'Brien and Brad Rusin.

Washington (1-6-3, 6 points) will meet Western New York (5-2-4, 19 points) for the third time this season and the first time with mid-season addition Conny Pohlers. But the team will be without leading scorer Diana Matheson, who is still recovering from an ankle sprain.

The last meeting was a 2-0 win for the Flash, with both teams playing without key US and Canada National Team players.

After a win against the San Jose Earthquakes in league play, and the intervening win against the New England Revolution in the US Open Cup, D.C. Last night was fun. Obviously our faithful readers already know that D.C. United built on their recent uptick in form to see off the New England Revolution 3-1 at the Soccerplex last night (didn't see it? The match video is on YouTube). The rumored swampy weather and potential thunderstorms ended up turning into a comfortable - well, mid-Atlantic summer comfortable, anyway - night, and United once again delivered the goods going forward at the Soccerplex.

Independence Park doesn't sound like a particularly intimidating venue. For CONCACAF nerds, it sounds like a generic name for any Caribbean country's home ground. However, in this case USA fans know Jamaica's home ground by a nickname that says everything: The Office. It's not called that because Jim is going to pull a delightful prank on Dwight; rather, it's because that's where Jamaica goes to work.

New England Revolution vs. D.C. United Preview: Behind Enemy Lines with The Bent Musket

Remember back - oh, just a little over a week ago - when we were looking at D.C. United's schedule for June and saying, "Wow - this is a much softer schedule than we've seen this year! Maybe we'll see our boys get off the schneid sooner than later!" I want to go back to then. Back to before Chicago picked up two pieces that have them looking competitive, and back to before the New England Revolution - the Black-and-Red's opponents on Saturday - beat the two-time defending MLS champs 5-0.

D.C. United Acquires Defender Alain Rochat From The Vancouver Whitecaps

D.C. United desperately needs better players at almost every position. We could also use some experience, some consistency, and some leadership. None of this is news to anyone that has seen us play.

In what is hopefully the first step of many, United addressed those needs at left back. The Black-and-Red sent a 2015 2nd Round SuperDraft pick and a conditional 2016 pick to the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for Swiss-Canadian left back Alain Rochat.

Today, D.C. United announced that the team has traded a natural 2015 second round MLS draft pick and an additional, conditional draft pick to the Vancouver Whitecaps for defender/midfielder Alain Rochat. The Quebec-born Rochat was a Whitecap MLS original, and by some accounts was the best player in their woeful inaugural season.

MLS Statistical Analysis, 5.2: 1.3 of the Season Done

We've given the teams plenty of time to sort out the statistical anomalies that come with analyzing 4 games worth of data. Now we have a pretty good idea of who teams are, as everyone, prior to Wednesday night's games, had played between 12 and 16 games (which is a ridiculous discrepancy, but that's a post for another time.

Over the past few months here on the site, we've seen several regular commenters say they still enjoy going out to RFK Stadium with family, friends, and fellow supporters despite the difficult opening to the season. And why not? One of the great things about soccer is that it is a pastime/passion best enjoyed in the company of others.

Filibuster Podcast: Week 15 - Previewing D.C. United's trip to New England with Steve Stoehr of the Bent Musket

We're back! After a week away, Filibuster - the Black & Red United podcast - returns with a very special episode. And I say "very special episode" in the old After School Special sense. It's sad. We're sad. All United fans are in some way sad - there's angry sad, depressed sad, soul-searching-finding-out-where-I-went-wrong-with-my-life sad.

D.C. United vs. New England Revolution lineup: Homegrown centerbacks

The New England Revolution are finally rounding into form and they are a scary team to face right now for anyone, not to mention for D.C. United. The 5-0 scoreline on their demolition of the LA Galaxy is a little flattering, but they dominated the second half of that game and played the defending champs off the field.

The silly season is starting to churn for D.C. United. After announcing trialists this morning, there are now reports out of Peru saying that D.C. United is interested in 20 year old midfielder Mario Tajima, currently of Club Universitario de Deportes. Tajima was born in Bolivia and was just naturalized as a Peruvian citizen, and is of Japanese and Bolivian descent.

This week was pretty bad all over, but now is the winter of our discontent. Nine teams are on bye next week, and forming your starting lineup will basically be finding eleven guys who are starting anywhere. But first we look at this weeks peak performers. C.A. Machete led the league with 85 points.

Mamadou Diallo and Habib Bellaid on trial with D.C. United from CS Sedan Ardennes

D.C. United announced today the arrival of two new trialists, both from the Ligue 2 team CS Sedan Ardennes: 31 year old Malian international forward Mamadou Diallo and 27 year old Algerian international center back Habib Bellaid. Sedan was just relegated from Ligue 2, so most of their players will be fleeing to try and latch on anywhere else.

The Last Word On D.C. United's Loss In Chicago: A New Proposal For The Future

For once, the home team lit up the scoreboards at RFK Stadium. Against one of the most historically powerful teams in the world, the team calling Washington, DC its home prevailed in front of a boisterous sellout crowd.

Unfortunately, D.C. United was a few hundred miles away from RFK, and doesn't have a single player with a scoring acumen close to that of Jozy Altidore or Clint Dempsey.

Chicago Fire 2-0 D.C. United - Recap & Highlights: D.C. never look like scoring, lose. Again.

You see, I would write a proper match recap, but you've read it already. Several times this year, in fact. D.C. United controlled the match, controlling more than 60% of possession and out-passing their opponents while failing to finish. Meanwhile, the Chicago Fire pounced on a D.C. own goal early and capitalized on lack-luster transition defense late to run out 2-0 winners over the Worst Team in the World.

The Black-and-Red take to the road this weekend, leaving RFK to the U.S. Men's National Team and the USSF Centennial celebration. Rather than celebrating, though, D.C. United are simply trying to stop the freefall today against the Chicago Fire. Or, should I say, the newly reinforced Chicago Fire, who have added center back Bakary Soumare and dangerman Mike Magee in recent days.

Remember, everybody: this game is not about the result. It's barely even about how well we play. This is our birthday party, as the U.S. Soccer Federation celebrates the start of its second hundred years as a thing. And who better - apparently - to play against for such a jubilee than USMNT manager Jurgen Klinsmann's native Germany, who will be missing some key starters from arguably the top national team in the world right now (but will still be really damn good, if a schellacking of FIFA 10th-ranked Ecuador this week is any indication).

D.C. United Scouting Report: Chicago Fire

For D.C. United, the US Open Cup was supposed to be a respite. Instead, the 0-0 draw against the Richmond Kickers that ended with the Black-and-Red moving on via penalty kicks was a reminder of many of the things we've been doing wrong all year. The defense more or less held up against Richmond's attacks - not that there were many of them, and Joe Willis was forced into a couple tricky saves - but the offense was as dull and slow as ever.
