Stuart Holden continues to lead the US assault on the English Premier League, joining other US
stars Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard and Jozy Altidore in having appeared in the EPL
this season.
Holden made his English Premier League debut for Bolton Wanderers in a 1-0 victory over visiting
Wolves on Saturday.

Anfield Talk 31 January @ 12:11 PM EDT
The pre-match phone-in on Liverpool's local radio station may not be home to the most eloquent
football observers, nor the most perceptive. But listening to one caller prior to this routine 2-0
win over a shot-shy Bolton Wanderers at Anfield, it was hard not to be surprised.
"[Steven] Gerrard and [Alberto Aquilani] clearly cannot play together," the caller mused.

So yes I realise I've been a horrible horrible blogger recently. And I apologise profusely for
letting you down. I play for a rugby club in my spare time, which does not leave much time for the
lengthy research and writing that this blog requires, but don't dismay! My rugby season will
probably be over after this weekend (I can almost hear your sighs of relief, it's touching), so
I'll be posting much more regularly.

TORONTO - The schedule has finally been released, and Pistolas FC find themselves in tough against
the likes of teams like GU, The Zat Knight, alongside more well known teams such as Braga
Contracting, Original 21 and the ever flashy FC Bada Bing.
GU and The Zat Knight are unknowns to the PFC organization, and as we've learned in our experience,
never underestimate an opponent.

Judging by this photograph there were a few similarities between Bolton's match against
Manchester United and Sunderland versus Liverpool. Sunderland beat Liverpool by a single
contentious goal in which Darren Bent's shot was deflected by a beach ball.
Zat Knight refused to comment.

A nervy encounter which Manchester United got through in the end, but early dominance and
chances were not converted into goals, but this win against Bolton Wanderers does mean that United
are top after Chelsea had lost 2-1 at the hands of Aston Villa.
It was good to see some very good performances from Michael Owen, taking advantage of Rooney's
injury, and Ryan Giggs in particular.

So Saturday was a bit of a surprise wasn't it? Bolton played the best they have in a long while,
and arguably outplayed Spurs, who have been a quality side so far this season. If you read my match
preview, I wasn't very optimistic for this match, I said we might sneak away with a draw. However
it was Tottenham who were lucky to get a point.

So first off many apologies vis-a-vis the lack of match preview. I was in Dallas for a rugby
tournament all weekend (my team is going to nationals!) and I had so much homework Thursday I
couldn't do it (I got an hour and a half of sleep on Thursday). Also I'm aware this is a wee bit
late, but I only got home about an hour ago.

Arsenal
What they wanted
Arsène Wenger admitted he was looking for defensive cover and a defensive midfielder, along
with 'half the managers in the Premier League'
What they got
Arsenal have made an impressive start and that may have convinced Wenger that the squad he has -
with the addition of Thomas Vermaelen - will suffice
Pleat's verdict
Maybe a talented big man to replace Emmanuel Adebayor would have given them variations.

Last season was spectacularly mediocre for the Wanderers. With relegation a real possibility for
most of the season it was easy to forget that we finished in the last 16 of Europe in 2007-2008. As
with many lower table sides they were Jekyll and Hyde, playing like they deserved to finish in the
single digits some days, other days playing in a fashion that would embarrass the Championship.

There is still time for Bolton Wanderers manager, Gary Megson, to make more signings before the
start of the new footy season. He has said that he is keen to sign a striker before it is too late
to do so. As the start of the season looms here's an overview of who Megson has signed so far.
"This is going to be a vitally important transfer window for us if we intend to move forward,
and ideally I'd like to be a bit further down the road than we are right now.
