The Los Angeles Galaxy enjoyed a banner day on Wednesday, but it was by no means a perfect one.
After signing forward Edson Buddle and acquiring midfielder Kyle Nakazawa in a deal from the
Philadelphia Union, the Galaxy learned that homegrown signing Jose Villarreal will be out for six
weeks.
Remember Yuri Zhirkov? The man with a big reputation as one of the upcoming stars of European
football joined Chelsea for a fee of around £18m in 2009 and being honest, did little really to
cement his place in the team or force his way in. I think we could realistically, count on one hand
the amount of games he played well in for Chelsea.

Seven foreign players were invited to participate in the combine, which is otherwise comprised
of NCAA seniors and Generation adidas signings.

It's official, Didier Drogba and Chelsea will part ways at the end of the season. According to
Drogba's agent the striker is set to snub a one year contract extension that the club is willing to
offer him and move to the club that offers him the most money.
Drogba has found it increasingly hard for him to cement his position in Villas-Boas starting
Line up and this is one amongst the many reasons why the Ivorian is leaving the Blues.
Clive Brunskill/Getty Images (Bleacher Report) Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery has become one of
Chelsea's most recent surprise targets after Caughtoffside.com have broken speculation that the
Frenchman is the subject of a £35 million bid.
The Frenchman could be brought in to start taking the place of Florent Malouda who is getting up in
years at 31.
Liverpool's Steven Gerrard and Chelsea's Frank Lampard have emerged as the latest transfer targets
for big-spending Anzhi Makhachkala.
The Russian club stunned the football world last month by signing Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o
from Inter Milan and making him the world's highest-paid player.
Suleyman Kerimov, Anzhi's billionaire owner, is keen to add more big names to a squad that also
features Roberto Carlos, Diego Tardelli and Yuri Zhirkov.

One rumour gained momentum yesterday regarding Florent Malouda and reported interest from German
giants Bayern Munich. German Magazine Kicker is reporting that Bayern have shown "big" interest in
the Frenchman and a bidding war could start as the January window opens.
I think it was surprising to see Malouda re affirm his commitment to Chelsea during the transfer
window and especially on deadline day.
Jose Mourinho has turned down an offer from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala that reportedly would
have paid him the the biggest salary in the history of football.
Spanish newspaper Marca claims Mourinho turned down an astonishing £22 million-a-year AFTER tax
to take the helm at the Black Sea club.

As well as playing like a complete defensive uber-goliath and having to take to the
field in a homemade shirt during the latter stages of Ireland's qually against Russia in Moscow
last night, Richard Dunne also had the misfortune of doing smacking his face into the metal
drainage grid that surrounds the plaggy pitch at the Luzhniki after clattering through Yuri Zhirkov
on the touchline.

The real, tragic consequences of the collapse of the Celtic Tiger were all too apparent in
Moscow on Tuesday night, as Republic of Ireland captain Richard Dunne was forced to wear a
number-less replacement shirt after his No. 5 shirt was decimated in a challenge with Yuri
Zhirkov.
Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni saluted Richard Dunne and Shay Given for their heroic performances
in a precious 0-0 draw in Moscow.
Dunne produced two superb blocks and ended the game with four stitches in a head wound as Ireland
managed to cling on for their first ever point in Russia.
Ouch! Doubters have always said that plastic pitches are dangerous but probably not for this
reason. Republic of Ireland defender Richard Dunne managed a massive faceplant on a metal grid
surrounding the pitch. The Aston Villa man made a sliding tackle on Russia's Yuri Zhirkov, but
ended up smacking his face on the drainage [.
It's one of the busiest days of the year when it comes to football, it's transfer deadline day
until January next year. It's the final day that clubs can do business before they have to settle
for what they have at 2300GMT tonight.
We all saw how it affected us last season as we let too many players go, had the injuries to key
players around the same time and as a result suffered badly.

Samuel Eto'o came on for the last £1157.12 of Anzhi's match against Rostov and, £723.20 into
his debut, the Cameroonian striker nudged home his first goal for the Russian side steering Yuri
Zhirkov's low cross in to equalise at the near post after making a run worth about £1.
According to reports coming from Porto, Chelsea made a bid of around £16.6m for Pereira which has
been rejected. Alvaro Pereria can play as full back or wing back down the left hand side and seems
to have been identified as a direct replacement for Yuri Zhirkov who left the club earlier this
month.
A news story broke yesterday afternoon/evening that took me by surprise but thinking about it,
could make perfect sense. The story relates to the "sudden" availability of Florent Malouda to
European clubs for as little as £5m before the transfer window closes next Wednesday.
Now straight away I thought "No way" purely and simply because of the balance that Malouda provides
us down that left hand side when he plays and plays well.
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o has signed a world record breaking £345,000 per week deal at
Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala. The former Inter Milan striker was signed by the Russian side this
week in a £22 million transfer, but his wages alone will set them back much more.
According to The Sun, Eto'o's pay packet leaves him earning £345,000 per week
after taxes, which is a staggering amount for a 30 year old, and makes him the highest
earning footballer in the world.

on international stars.

Could this man be on his way to the Bridge?
First we've heard, but the Daily Mail are reporting this morning that Chelsea have a sneaky £22
million bid for supposed Arsenal target Juan Mata knocked back by Valencia but apparently, like
some sort of cash-laden Terminator, 'they will be back'.
guest writer/Marco Rinaldi There are worrying signs that the Russian revolution at Venezia may turn
out to be yet another nightmare for the fans of the Lagunari. When Yuri Korablin arrived earlier
this year, there were promises of a 100m euro stadium, a revamp of the training facilities
including the laying of an artificial pitch, and serious investment in the squad that would see the
club back.
Russian midfielder Andrei Arshavin has moved quickly to end the rumors linking him with a move
away from Arsenal. There have been a plethora of rumors about departing Arsenal players this
summer, and with Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri heading out the exit door Arshavin is adamant that
he will be staying.
Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko revealed that he was "shocked" at the way Russian teammate
Yuri Zhirkov was treated in front of yesterday's home crowd in Moscow. The home crowd booed the
former Chelsea player all match, disappointing Pavlyuchenko.
"I was frankly shocked. I do not know why these people come to football.
I posted the other week Enough is Enough and following on from that I still can't believe the
negativity towards Chelsea ahead of the new season by some of you fans. I cannot believe or
understand where you are coming from at all.
Granted, everyone has freedom of speech and have every right to air their opinions but I really
can't understand how you people are not looking forward to the new season.
Hello all Russia fans, as most of you all ready know Russian left-back Yuri Zhirkov has
transferred from Chelsea FC to Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala. This move comes after
some much rumored whispers that he was in Russia having talks with several clubs interested in his
signature. Zhirkov [read more]

Reds Rekindle Enrique Interest
Liverpool are ready to capitalise on the dressing room unrest at Newcastle by launching a bid
for Jose Enrique. The left-back has been a long-term target for the Reds and, now that Milan
Jovanovic is all but out, they now have the funds required to bring the player to Anfield.
After Ron Gourlay spoke the other day about potential sales at Chelsea, it seems that one is more
or less and done deal and we are just waiting on official confirmation from Chelsea.
Yuri Zhirkov seems to be on his way back to Russia after a deal has reportedly been done with Anzhi
Makhachkala for around £13-£15m was agreed.
The cash-rich Anzhi Makhachkala are reportedly close to sealing a deal for the Chelsea left-winger
Yuri Zhirkov, who has become disillusioned with life at Stamford Bridge after failing to hold down
a regular place in the team. The Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimov is aiming to make Anzhi into
the biggest club in Russia and Zhirkov [.
Is it "so long and thanks for the goal in Moscow" to Yuri Zhirkov?
Reports in Russia are claiming that Zhirkov arrived this morning and has signed with FC Anji for
15 million Euros. Nothing is on either club's website yet, though.
Zhirkov's Chelsea career hasn't exactly been sparkling, given he has often fallen into the
Alex-esque injury mire where he disappears for periods of time with no one explaining exactly
why.
Frank Lampard is featured in the press this morning talking of calling time on his career when he
runs out of steam and these are most of the headlines you are reading this morning. I have to say
looking at Frank Lampard yesterday, he looks as though he will be fitter than ever and raring to go
this season so any thoughts of him quitting the game are a few years off yet.
Schlong in Hong Kong.
Anelka with a George Michael-esque pose
Yeah, the above phrase, from known lyrologist Christopher Bridges, is kind of lewd. Hey, at
least I didn't use Bang cock in Bangkok when we were in Thailand. Area Codes, dude.
By now you should know that we're on the cusp of competing in our first organized tournament of
the new season.
We have all seen the rumours, we have all seen the speculation so it's about time that I put down
here on record (as pre season starts today) the players I believe need to impress AVB this week or
for the next 10 days. These are the players I believe may struggle to become part of AVB's
plans.
Nico Anelka.
Amidst the rumors, the speculation, and the gossip of who might be heading to The Bridge this
summer, we take a look at the Exodus of players already leaving the club, along with a list of
potential candidates that could be on their way out in the coming weeks. More after the jump:
I gets what I wants.
A day before his 48th birthday, Yuri Krasnozhan has been sacked by FC Lokomotiv Moskva a little
over seven months after succeeding Yuri Semin at the helm of the Russian Premier-Liga club.
Yuri Zhirkov has well and truly taken aim at Chelsea's medical team and has more or less confirmed
that he wants to leave the club in order to play first team football. It's the situation with his
"injury" that he has revealed hurt him the most this season, so much so, he doesn't want to talk
about it cause it "hurts".
Cue the golazos.
Day 4 of our end of season polling brings with it one of the more popular offerings of each
summer, goal of the season. Perhaps there is not a headline favorite as in previous seasons Essien
v. Barcelona in 2009, Drogba v. Bolton in 2010 but that's not to say there aren't several fine
candidates.
I think if we are honest looking at the current squad knowing that some players will be leaving,
the name of Yuri Zhirkov is one of those people we expect to leave the club after failing to make a
consistent impact on the Chelsea first team.
Once again, Zhirkov has spoken back home in Russia of his unhappiness at Chelsea and it does come
as no surprise.
