If recent, handshake-centric events in this country had ruined your faith in
football, then the exploits of Zambia over the past fortnight-and-a-bit may just restore it for
you. Last night, the rank outsiders and the most 'under' of all the underdogs climbed the
proverbial mountain and won the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

The African Nations Cup kicks off this weekend, which provides a handy
opportunity for under performing league players to show what they're about! Unfortunately,
perennial favourites Egypt failed to qualify for this alongside Algeria,
Cameroon and Nigeria.

Blues Brothers...
All blessed with good footballing names, Rio, Cole and Jay Dasilva are the latest youngsters to
be snapped up by the big boys, after the Luton Town youth players were signed up by Chelsea, each
for a five-figure sum.
Liverpool will take a 1-0 advantage back to Anfield after defeating Manchester City in their
Carling Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
A first-half penalty from Steven Gerrard was all that separated the sides at the Etihad Stadium
after City defender Stefan Savic clumsily felled a charging Daniel Agger in the box.

With so many gifted African players now plying their trade in the Premier League, the African
Cup of Nations has become something of an issue for managers in the top division, particularly as
it is held slap bang in the middle of the season.

Manchester City moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League as first-half goals
from Sergio Agüero and Yaya Touré paved the way for a comfortable home victory against
Liverpool.
Roberto Mancini Talking After The Match
Roberto Mancini's side were in a mini-slump after taken only one point from their two away
previous games, but they are a different side at home, dropping only two points at home in the
league in all of 2011.

Man City 3-0 Liverpool Big Match Verdict: Reds need to sign a goal-scorer and not just
to fill in for Suarez
It is tempting to suggest, with Luis Suarez embarking on a five-week holiday, that Liverpool
will now require urgent transfer-window intervention. The truth is though, they probably needed it
whether the South American was banned or not.
The 2012 African Cup Of Nations is set to begin on the 21st of January until the 12th of
February, so we thought with not long to go it may be worthwhile figuring out which teams are going
to be most affected by players departing for this competition.
Players Involved In The African Cup Of Nations
Starting with the teams at the top end of the Premier League, Biram Diouf of Senegal appears to
be the only Manchester United player affected which isn't likely to affect the club much at all as
he is probably their 6th choice striker.
It wasn't so long ago that pundits and fans alike were questioning whether Mario Balotelli had
what it takes to succeed in English football.
His doubters were plentiful and vociferous, with many criticising his perceived lack of
maturity. However, one by one Balotelli has silenced his critics as he continues to lay waste to
defences across the Premier League.

1. Manchester City will benefit from this experience
Regardless of the wealth spent on this team, this is City's first outing in the Champions
League. Only a handful of players in the squad have participated before in Europe's elite
competition.

Manchester City 5-1 Norwich City Premier League 3rd December 2011
The league-leaders kept their 100% home record this season with a goalfest at the Etihad Stadium
against Norwich. However, it took City over half-an-hour to break the deadlock, courtesy of a
superb piece of skill by Sergio Aguero.
Liverpool fear Lucas Leiva will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury. The Brazilian
midfielder, one of his club's best performers this year, was carried off on a stretcher during the
2-0 Carling Cup win at Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Lucas underwent a scan yesterday at 1pm, and although the results will not be known until today,
Liverpool fear the worst.

2009 winner Ryan Giggs. Talent, looks, money AND personality no wonder he's a hit with the
ladies.
The Manchester Evening News demonstrated a rather fine example of parochialism in choosing its
shortlist for the 2011 BBC Sports Personality awards.

Ronald and Frank De Boer, Kolo and Yaya Touré, Gary and Phil Neville and erm, John and Paul
Terry all brothers who made it to the very highest level of football.
Well over in St Petersburg, the seven-year-old twin sons of Zenit and Portugal midfielder Danny
are already impressing on the pitch for the Zenit boys team.

Gervinho and Yaya Touré celebrate
Four Premier League stars have made the shortlist for the 2011 CAF African Player Of The Year
awards, with the Ivorian trio of powerhouse Yaya Touré, fleet-footed wideman Gervinho and veteran
hitman Didier Drogba all getting the nod along with QPR's Moroccan schemer Adel Taarabt
However, they'll be up against four-time winner Samuel Eto'o (FC New Russian Money & Cameroon),
Kevin-Prince Boateng (Milan & Ghana), Seydou Keita (Barcelona & Mali), Asamoah Gyan (FC New Dubai
Money & Ghana), Andre Ayew (Marseille & Ghana) and Moussa Sow (Lille & Senegal).
City talisman Yaya Toure stated in a recent interview that his team can match the Arsenal of
2004 and go unbeaten in this years Premier League.
He said in a launch of Puma's African National Cup kits, "We hope we can continue unbeaten, we
are playing fantastic football."
Although the blue side of Manchester have enjoyed an excellent start to their campaign- the
obvious highlight beating United 6-1 at Old Trafford, I simply do not believe City have what it
takes to match Arsene Wenger's supremely talented side.
PUMA follows its recent signings of Spain and FC Barcelona midfielder Cesc F bregas, France and
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry (now with the New York Red Bulls), Argentina and Manchester city
forward Sergio ‘Kun' Agüero, and Atlético Madrid and Colombia striker Radamel Falcao with that
of Yaya Touré.
PUMA announced it has signed a long-term partnership with Côte d'Ivoire and Manchester City
midfielder Yaya Touré. But, this new partnership is different to most others.

Steve Kean's tenure in charge at Ewood Park looks close to ending after the Scot's struggling
Blackburn side were thoroughly demolished by Roberto Mancini's A-list 11.
Sergio Aguero did go off early with a groin injury in a mediocre first half, but after the
break City roared into action.
Still one match left to go and we still haven't seen Spurs play. That aside, here are some
observations from a weekend where I got to watch a pretty serious amount of footie. Here we go...
Mo Rules - As we mentioned over the summer, buying road players is a dodgy proposition. Exhibit A
from this weekend is Manchester City.
Sergio Agüero made an impressive debut for Manchester City and he scored twice and assisted on
another as Manchester City beat Swansea City 4-0.
Aguero started the game on the bench as Man City lacked that cutting edge in front of goal in
the first half. Swansea goalkeeper Michal Vorm was impressive in his debut for the Welsh site
making a string of saves while David Silva and Gareth Barry both hit the crossbar
But eventually Man City's class told in the 57th minute when Vorm failed to hold Adam Johnson's
curling effort into the path of Džeko, who tapped in.

Manchester City have won their first major trophy since 1976 as they beat Stoke City 1-0 at
Wembley today.
Neither side was able to break the deadlock in a tight and often tense first half, but Yaya
Touré's thunderous strike 16 minutes from time secured a first FA Cup triumph for Manchester City
since 1969.

Manchester City have reached their first major cup final since 1981 thanks to Yaya Touré, whose
second-half goal was enough to beat ten-man Manchester United at Wembley.
Neither side were able to impose themselves on the game in the opening stages before United took
charge of the contest with Paul Scholes and Carrick pulling the strings in midfield.
There is something special about Manchester United versus Manchester City this season, as the
latter has invested heavily on a long list of excellent players. I must admit that I felt great
sympathy with City today, with outstanding players such as Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko, Yaya Touré,
David Silva and Shawn Wright-Phillips.
Five days ago, I wasn't much looking forward to Saturday, but how quickly things can change; all
it took was £26m! Seriously though, it's amazing what a boost the acquisition of Darren
Bent has provided. To everyone, fans and players alike it would seem;
Gabby, Ash & James Collins all waxing lyrical
about Bent joining the team.
This is my overriding fear vis-a-vis tonight's monster clash in North London.
City will be missing their main man, their orchestrata, the man who makes them "play football",
therefore, men like De Jong, Barry and Yaya will be key for them.
I very much doubt they will come to have a rumble with us, a point is more than good enough and
this should plant the tactical side of their job tonight.
