So, that happened. The United States dropped a chance to get off to a really strong start in World Cup Qualifying last night, squandering a first-half lead to get dropped 2-1 by Honduras. Thanks to a pair of draws in the other games, the Yanks aren't rooted in last place too badly, but it was still pretty awful to see Los Catrachos come back and win, even in a tough road qualifier at San Pedro Sula.
It's time for the Hex! The United States is about to take on Honduras, and while the Yanks' roster features several former New England Revolution players, no one will draw more attention from Fort fans than Los Catrachos' striker Jerry Bengtson. This is a good opportunity for all of us to see him in action for his national team, where he appears to be scoring all the goals.
Man, that was tough. Tough, as in "tough to watch." The United States looked a winnable - nay, easy - game right in the eyes and promptly played the most boring, emotionless, and unexciting match of their lives. It wasn't just dull, it was mind-numbing. Honestly, if I'm Canada, I'm a little upset that I didn't steal a win in this game.
Last night served as an historic moment for US soccer as the Americans defeated Mexico 1-0.
The victory will be remembered as the first time they defeated El Tri on Mexican turf in 75
years.
With many of the USMNT veterans absent from the roster, 'keeper Tim Howard  was called upon to
lead the youthful side into the hostile territory known as Estadio Azteca.

In a word, that sucked. The U.S. Men's National Team dropped the first game of the final round of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, losing 2-1 to Honduras. This despite going up 1-0 late in the first half through Clint Dempsey. Even when ahead 0-1, the Americans were generally outplayed over the entire 90 minutes, and the Hondurans deservedly went ahead on Jerry Bengston's 78th minute game-winner after a miscommunication between Geoff Cameron and Tim Howard allowed Oscar Boniek Garcia to square for Bengston, who ran past a ball-watching Omar Gonzalez to slot the winner home into an open net.
Jon Levy We humble writers here at The Yanks Are Coming have always been proponents of infusing the
soccer world with both logic and reason, less common elements within the game than you might think.
So it should come as no surprise that we're big fans of the book Soccernomics. Written by Simon

For most Yanks, it's the end of the line. For others, like Herculez Gomez, it's a chance to stay alive. While for others, like the Trio in Tijuana, it's a battle for first place.
By Charles Boehm - WASHINGTON, DC (Nov 13, 2012) US Soccer Players -- Jurgen Klinsmann's effort to test the US National Team with demanding international friendlies continues in faraway Krasnodar on Wednesday, as the Yanks visit Russia for their final match of 2012 (10am ET - ESPN2). Amid a brief break from the tension of CONCACAF qualifying, Klinsmann has called in a hybrid US roster featuring both regulars and newcomers which should make for interesting.
Full post game analysis will follow, but a few quick thoughts on the Yanks 3-1 win over Guatemala This roster did what it was built to do. If there's one thing Jürgen Klinsmann has shown a talent for, it's tailoring his roster to his opponents. This roster was built to power over and through packed defenses, and it did just that.
With the United States Men's National Team set to take on Mexico at the Azteca, the whole
American soccer world is abuzz as the region's greatest rivalry is about to get serious in a way
that it only does once every few years. Normally, only World Cup Qualifying forces these two
continental giants to face off in Mexico City; traditionally, the US only wanted to travel there if
forced, anyway.
Finally, after what has felt like a lifetime after the Yanks' defeat to Ghana in the Round of 16
two summers ago, the road to qualification for World Cup 2014 in Brazil begins Friday night in
Tampa. With arguably one of the better talent pools this nation has seen in quite some time, as
well as the guidance of a new head man in Jurgen Klinsmann, the United States are looking to
qualify for their seventh straight World Cup.
Will Tropical Storm Jerome be shut down by the Pitch Police? Stay tuned...
And now Canada and Brazil don't matter. Nor Scotland for that matter. Actually none of it
matters. Wipe out the past two years aside from that "missing the Olympics" thing because now it's
just going to be Michael Phelps, Michael Phelps, Michael Phelps it's World Cup qualifying
season.
It's crunch time. The United States Men's National Team is about to face off against Jamaica in what some people have billed as the single most important World Cup Qualifying match the USA has participated in since 2001. Those people are probably being a bit dramatic, but nevertheless, the Yanks find themselves in a bit of a pickle after losing 2-1 to the Reggae Boyz at The Office in Kingston.

The U.S. national team continues their long journey to the 2014 FIFA World Cup on Friday night in Kingston, Jamaica, at Independence Park. The Yanks have traveled to The Office four times during their World Cup qualifying campaigns, with all ... Continue reading →
Juergen Klinsmann's side achieved their first ever victory in Azteca Stadium after a 1-0 win over
Mexico on Wednesday. Although only a friendly, the historic victory was celebrated by Americans as
a landmark moment against our eternal rivals, particularly considering the experimental lineup
employed by the Yanks.
The dust is now just beginning to settle for the first ever victory by the USA in Mexico. And
the win came in no other place than Aztec Stadium, notorious for tormenting the USMNT over the
years. Although the Americans didn't play what you would call a beautiful soccer game, they played
with grit, determination, and hard work.
The day is finally here for a soccer rivalry that is always full of fight, intrigue, and
normally hostile play. When the US and Mexico butt heads, it's usually not pretty. It also doesn't
help that the Americans will be playing tonight in Aztec Stadium, which has been an impenetrable
fortress for the Yanks.
"Es Mas Facil Ganar en Mexico." – Landon Donovan Ladies and Gentlemen, we may well be living in
the early days of the Golden Age of Mexican Soccer. El Tri hold every Men's regional title, are
Olympic gold medalists, and are headed to the 2013 Confederations Cup.   The fact that they've
achieved this with an almost entirely homegrown player pool following a decade of American
dominance, and in the midst of a near civil war,.
The Yanks make a solid start with four points from their first two World Cup Qualifying
matches. US v Antigua & Barbuda The USMNT began a two year road to Brazil 2014
with a Friday night affair against Antigua & Barbuda. The tiny island side was clearly over matched
but had continuity with most of the side playing for the Antigua Barracudas who are coached by the
national team manager.
Jon Levy The Yanks now sit at two wins, one loss, and one draw in Jurgen Klinsmann's five match
non-tournament. More importantly, the team's shown gradual progress towards the manager's ideal
throughout this camp, as Klinsmann continues to figure out which players work at which positions
within his preferred formation.
"Welcome to wherever you are." – Jon Bon Jovi If you are new to following the US National Team,
say if you started watching the Yanks during their shocking Confederations Cup run in 2009, or were
hooked by Landon Donovan's heroics in South Africa in 2010, or if you're a Euro fan who only
supports the red, white & blue when they play against a country with a navy, then things are about
to get.
- The Yanks wowed with a dominant display vs Scotland and then struggled in subsequent matches vs
Brazil and Canada. We compare and contrast the three performances based on four important
factors. Playing from the Back The most promising difference between the regimes of Jurgen Klinsmann
and Bob Bradley has been the insistence on keeping the ball on the floor.
The United States had a bumpy road to World Cup qualifiers. The journey started promising enough
with a 5-1 thrashing of Scotland. However, all of the early hopes came crashing down to reality
when Brazil turned the tables with a 4-1 victory. The border battle to the north was the last test
for the Yanks [.
Can you honestly say you expected the Yanks to win this one? Well, after the 5-1 hammering dealt
to Scotland perhaps US fans had good reason to. Reality check friends...Brazil is way better than
Scotland. Let us mow through some random thoughts together about the team and the game!
Defense: Timid on the ball, dynamic outside
Oguchi Onyewu's size may no longer offset his liability.
Coming off a massacre of the Scots not seen since the days of the hated Oliver Cromwell, who sent
my people west of the River Shannon to farm rocks, the victorious Yanks will be looking for their
sixth straight victory Wednesday night in Landover against the Samba Kings. Fans of Marvel's
avengers will have an extra rooting interest in this clash against Brasil, as Captain America
Carlos Bocanegra, and the US's own Iron Man, Michael.
Even though the United States opening game of its "five-game tournament" may have looked like one
giant Where's Waldo game with the new red and white hooped jerseys, Â the Yanks were all business
in their 5-1 win over Scotland. Head coach Jurgen Klinsmann treated this match as the first in the
build-up to tough opponents [.
The Yanks will kick off their five game Spring set with a friendly Saturday night against the
Tartan Army in sunny Florida. New faces will be looking for more time in the stars and stripes
while one very familiar face looks for his first minutes with der Klinsmannschaft. Â The
Highlanders will be playing away from home while their FA borders on implosion.
White smoke finally emerged from Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex late Sunday afternoon,
signaling the release of the final names for die Klinsmannshaft's roster. Habemus Yanks. Goal:Â

Paul Doyle of the Guardian raves about Clint Dempsey and why Liverpool, or any other team, should
be overjoyed to get their hands on him.
-While the stories have been going 'round and 'round that Liverpool has already signed Dempsey,
keep in mind he has said on many occasions that he wants to play in the Champions League, and
Liverpool is not in that tournament.
Soccer fans across the fruited plain were riveted by last Friday’s World Cup qualifier in Commerce City. One of the main story lines regarded the harsh, wintry conditions in which the game was played. A glorious victory for the Yanks, but I think it also provides some evidence of why MLS is going to continue scheduling games when the weather is most agreeable in the northern hemisphere.
Coming into this game, I had high expectations. Canada was fielding a young team and they were coming off a dismantling at the hands of the Danes four days before. The US was coming off a three-week camp, conceivably playing soccer at some point during that time.
In preparation for their September 9th World Cup qualifying game against Jamaica in Columbus, Ohio, the U.S. men's national team held an open training session this morning at Crew Stadium. The Yanks will be looking to avenge Friday's 2-1 loss ... Continue reading →
A five-goal difference in aggregate scoring was the theme for two Yanks abroad who found themselves
on opposite ends of third round Europa League results.
Bedoya has left Rangers and signed with Helsingborg, a team currently in the mix for a place in
the UEFA Champions League group stage, through the rest of the Allsvenskan season, according to
Yanks Abroad. Ironically, Helsingborg's opponent in the final UCL qualifying round is Rangers'
rival, Celtic.
