... it's gonna be the Yankees that the Phillies have to put in their place to take the World
Series again. Be there, starting Wednesday night ... as two ex-Cleveland aces go up against each
other in their new(er) uniforms. That's CC vs. Cliff Lee. Let's go, Phillies, you can do it!
And I love hearing that George Will has gone after Dick for his "dithering" comment noting that
a little "dithering" by the Bushies might have been helpful before invading Iraq.

US Soccer defeated Honduras on Saturday to clinch a berth in World Cup 2010 in South Africa. Â I
can't believe how many previews I read of that game that all said the Hondurans would turn away the
Americans hopes of winning...they were wrong.
What a great day for US Soccer. Â I'll tell you why in just a second.

There was but one circumstance that would keep Green Street Hooligans Part Trois from a viewing and
simultaneous chronicling, to be plastered in columns and rows on PmP's ashy downtown walls. And
because Obama isn't near the Hammer he is White Sox fan, lil' ol' modest ol' me, out here just
meekly West coastin', couldn't seem to negotiate himself a stream even cable-porn-grainily
broadcasting the tie.

The Los Angeles Sol have clinched the regular-season title in the inaugural season of Women's
Professional Soccer and they'll host the championship game on Saturday, August 22. They'll have
just over three weeks to sell tickets to the final (tickets aren't even on sale until July 29 - I
guess they either figured "Why give ourselves as much time as possible?

Quick stuff this morning, as the dogs bark and the sun makes its way through the green leaves
and into the blue (for now) sky.
The Phillies lost to the Cubbies yesterday ... so that means their new winning streak begins
now! The Red Sox lost another game ... and some more ground to the Yankees.

By now we have all heard of the disappointing finish for the U.S. in the Confederations Cup
against powerhouse Brazil. We all know that the U.S. squandered a 2-0 first half lead and
conceded three straight goals in the second half to lose the match 2-3. We all also know that it
was the first FIFA final the U.

It's funny how there is all this banter between the panelist when they are talking about dynasties
in other sports like the Lakers, the Yankees etc. But once Uncle Tommy brings up Manchester United
sh*t just gets sooo quiet; you knew he'd lose them once he dropped the word "gaffer".

Yes, those Yankees, or at least their president Randy Levine. As part of his comments at the
Associated Press Editors Conference, Major League Soccer commissioner referred to empty front row
seats at Yankee Stadium as "incomprehensible." Levine responded. "Don Garber discussing Yankee
attendance must be a joke," the Associated Press quoted Levine as saying.

I've been so busy working on the second book that I almost forgot that baseball season starts
today. So to make up for it, here's something from one of my favorite albums from last year. It's
probably the most consistent blend of sports and rock I've ever heard. Granted, that's a pretty
slim list to begin with, but I still like this a lot.

Amazing! Unbelievable! That's the Red Sox in October. Coming back from a 7-0
deficit the Red Sox mounted a comeback for the ages and nipped the Rays in the 9th, 8-7. Hang
on to your hats, folks, and tune in on Sunday night. It ain't over ... and a Sox-Phillies
Series may still be in [...]

Sure, I'm kind of a sucker for sports nostalgia and history. But Yankees nostalgia? That's like
looking back fondly on the heyday of Standard Oil.

To my mind, this was one of the finest moments in quite a collection of 'em over the past couple of
days. Bill came through last night, too. The historic milestone that Obama's nomination
represents is both cause for celebration and cause for sadness ... because in 2008 we should be
well beyond celebrating this [.

Bobby Abreu and Jorge Rojas. Together.
Had they known I was at the Stadium too, they would have definitely called me over. For sure.
Right?
In hard news, they are reporting that, if all goes well, Rojas should be training with the team
next week, and is aiming at a Los Angeles debut.
