1. Caught Offside
Be a sheep. Whilst it is always good to locate the 'next big thing' and follow the trend of a
cheap player hitting a strong patch of form, do not attempt to adhere to the theory that buying the
most obvious players is pointless as everyone has them.
How long have we been hoping for a result like this? We said for a long time that
somebody will get a hiding from Arsenal sooner or later and today Blackburn – together with a
handful of wasted bin bags, filled with nothing but hot air were taken to the
Bin-Bangers.

The African Cup of Nations' effect on Arsenal sums up the slightly oddball line-up for this
year's tournament. That Alexandre Song could line out against Swansea was a huge boost (at least
until his somewhat floundering performance on the day). That Marouane Chamakh could not was...
well... a huge boost too.
As the curtains draw open for the AFCON tournament, attention will definitely be on a number of
players who are set to retire once a winner is revealed on February 12th.
For many it will mark an end to the golden generation of some of the continent's truly brightest
talents but also the beginning for a new breed of stars who will look to carry on from where their
predecessors left.
Arsene Wenger said he doesn't expect to sign any new players during the rest of the January
transfer window and feels it should be scrapped anyway. Which is a little odd considering we just
saw Thierry Henry climb into Emirates Stadium through the window. If he sticks to his word, then
Gunner fans shouldn't expect to see the cavalry arrive in the nick of time to save the season from
sinking any further.

Blackburn Rovers 3-1 Fulham Premier League 14th January 2012
Steve Kean watched his side produce a superb battling performance at Ewood Park on Saturday, a
performance which ultimately moved Blackburn out of the relegation zone for the first time since
September.
A tale of absent friends made this cup tie somewhat less of an occasion than it could otherwise
have been. We knew that Demba Ba and Cheick Tiote wouldn't feature in this game, but when Blackburn
lined up without Yakubu and Samba that was a bit of a bonus. Also missing was Paul Clement, [...]
Mirror: Every day at Everton shows why Moyes is such a remarkable boss
The day David Moyes looks for a new challenge away from Goodison Park is the day Everton should
be worried. Until then, Moyes will carry on working miracles with a few slip-ups along the way. And
he is performing miracles.

David De Gea's horrendous flapping at a corner led to Grant Hanley following up on his header by
bulling through to the ball again for Blackburn's winner and his debut Premier League goal. It was
a shocking win for the cellar dwellers and it completely knocked the sails off the celebratory mood
enveloping Old Trafford before the game on the occasion of Sir Alex's 70th birthday.
Blackburn produced arguably the shock of the season so far by defeating Manchester United 3-2 at
Old Trafford in an unexpected set back for the champions. A Dimitar Berbatov brace wasn't enough to
rescue United as goals from Yakubu and Grant Hanley sealed a famous victory for under pressure
manager Steve Kean.

It was billed as a match in which the losing manager would get fired, and if that is the case
then it will be a much happier Christmas in the Coyle household this season than the Kean one as
Bolton beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 in a relegation six pointer.
The result means Blackburn replace Bolton at the foot of the Premier League, and Rovers will be
bottom at Christmas with only one team avoiding relegation from that position.

• Everton welcomes Norwich City to it's Really Goodison
The Premiership world was shocked when Everton announced that American Landon Donovan will come
on loan to the Land of Toffee starting January 4th.
Okay, not shocked actually at all except for the fact that Everton actually got a quality player
to help them in a battle with Father Relegation, even if only for two months.
Besides the fact that the embedded YouTube video above has amazing background music (absolutely
amazing), that's not the only reason we're selecting Sunderland's unheard of striker Ji Dong-Won

It was a scrappy win, scrappier than it really should have been, but it was a win and a clean
sheet, so there's an improvement upon the last few weeks.
Matches at Ewood Park provide a bit of nostalgia for me because so far it is the only away
ground I've been to.
They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words. Case in point:

Battered, bloodied, and fairly rubbish. No matter. Chelsea still manage to hold on for a
much-needed win at Ewood Park, 1-0, over a Blackburn Rovers side that probably deserved a
point.
Chelsea will be looking to create their own domino effect (goals breeding goals) this Guy Fawkes
afternoon at Ewood Park. You can best bet Nando Torres remembers.

Remember? None of us are likely to forget this fifth of November if Chelsea somehow fail to win
for a third successive game. A loss our third straight in the league and, well, Andre Villas-Boas
will be remembering the good ol' days back in Portugal.

Norwich City 3-3 Blackburn Rovers Premier League 29th October 2011
Under-pressure Rovers' boss Steve Kean saw his side come within a whisker of securing a
hard-fought victory at Carrow Road on Saturday.
Goals from the ever-impressive Junior Hoilett, Yakubu and Chris Samba looked to have given the
visitors their first away win of the season.
Newcastle lost their first game this season (technically we didn't sicne the game ended 2-2
after 90 minutes) and after being 2-0 down after 90 minutes to goals from Rochina and Yakubu,
two great goals from Guthrie and Cabaye in injury time sent the game amazingly to extra
time.Pedersen put Blackburn ahead again after 98 minutes, but Peter Lovenkrands scored [.
After a variable first couple of months for Arsenal, Per Mertesacker has seemingly turned a corner
in terms of strengthening the backline, especially when partnered with Koscielny. He has faced some
tough opposition, with the likes of Kevin Davies, Emmanuel Adebayor and Yakubu coming up against
the German since August.
Sunday 23rd October 2011. Ewood Park. 3pm Kick off.
Sunday sees Spurs travel to Ewok Park (anyone else miss Soccer AM's days of actually being
funny?) to take on Blackburn. Before the season kicked off I did a guest appearance on The Elastico
podcast for their Premier League season preview.
Arsenal skipper Robin van Persie has claimed that his teammates outplayed Blackburn in
Saturday's 4-3 defeat and he is still shocked that Steve Kean's struggling outfit was able to score
four times.
Although the Dutchman acknowledged the need to stop conceding soft goals in order to rebound
quickly from a third defeat in only five Premier League matches, he reminded the Rovers that they
were fortunate to emerge as the winning side at Ewood Park.
