"Two weeks ago, a lot of people were concerned because we weren't necessarily turning some of those games into wins," Toronto coach Greg Vanney said.

Soccer Quantified at related • 1 view
I've previously written about home field advantage in football. While there's no shortage of debate about the actual source of the home field advantage by learned and and not so learned minds alike, the facts are straightforward: home field advantage is a statistical fact. Across the big leagues of European football, more matches end with the home team winning than end with any other outcome (away win or draw).

Manchester United veteran Gary Neville has announced his retirement from football with immediate effect. The 35-year-old, who has made only three Premier League starts this season due to fitness problems and a lack of form, made 602 appearances for United and represented England on 85 occasions. Hailed as "the best English right-back of his generation" by Sir Alex Ferguson, Neville was a member of the famous side that won the FA Youth Cup in 1992 and along with Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, dedicated his entire career to his manager at Old Trafford.

One of the things that people who don't know soccer very well sometimes ask me is why I care about a game in which scoring is so low. Never mind that score totals in American football are artificially inflated, but my answer typically is twofold. First, there's the elegance, athleticism, creativity, and sheer beauty of the game.
