Good grief.
Tongue was firmly in cheek last night when I idly typed.
" ...the modest wish-list from AANP Towers is simply that three points are
garnered, by a healthy margin and in exhilarating, easy-on-the eye style."
However, someone somewhere at the Lane took this far too literally and as a result poor old
Chris Kirkland is going to need counselling.

A curious one, this. Back in the days of yore, when Luka Modric limped off against Birmingham, I
don't think anyone foresaw things panning out quite this way. Robbie Keane undroppable, wingers
treated like lepers, long-ball upon long-ball. We're muddling through, but the sooner both the
Croatian genius and Lennon return, the better.

A lot of understandably miffed punters doing the rounds this weekend; message boards, phone-ins
and blogospheres crammed to the skylights with Spurs fans giving their two cents on what was
ultimately a dismal fist at beating our insufferable neighbours. Some, while still dousing their
grazes in TCP, willing enough to put the result into context and move forward; others more likely
to dance the fandango of doom, goat's blood smeared across their forehead, wailing until Harry
Redknapp's hide is sent packing back to Sandbanks.

"There would be something quintessentially Spurs about doing all the hard work and then gifting
away the game on a plate, through one moment of madness."
-AANP, yesterday
And sure enough...
It's easy to forget that honours were fairly even in the early stages, as misplaced pass was
matched by misplaced pass in a midfield absolutely jam-packed with bodies.

Count the years off one by one. Every single year in this decade we have played Spurs home and away
in the League. And out of twenty matches we haven't lost a single one. Not a single one.
Even if we had lost one, we could still reflect on the annual difference between the teams shown by
the League table.

"Welcome to my nightmare, welcome to my breakdown."
Alice Cooper's 1975 campy anthem sums up the last five minutes of the first half for Spurs.
Harry Redknapp probably regrets starting a clearly unfit Ledley King who has struggled with
injuries this season. Sagna on the right whips in a cross which Van Persie reacts to more quickly,
outmaneuvering King to turn the ball past Heurelho Gomes for the first goal in the 42nd minute.

That could have gone better. But I'll stand by my previous comments; Arsenal fans are generally
morons.
Essentially, we did badly. We did very badly indeed. But up until about 40 minutes in, it was
looking like a very close gig. We were defending both in numbers and extremely competently. Apart
from one or two hairy moments, Ledley King and Seb Bassong were doing a more than adequate job.

Stroke of luck you say? Not in my opinion.
Arsenal continued to have the upper hand over their North London rivals as we convincingly won
3-0 at Ashburton Grove. Many will say that up to the first goal, Spurs have matched Arsenal stride
for stride but that cannot be further away from the truth.

Normally the points in this fixture are rather an irrelevance, but this time there is more at
stake than just bragging rights. The sides go into the game separated only by goal difference, and
the three points up for grabs could prove crucial come May. Ultimately, league position is the
gauge, and this season for a change we have a realistic chance of finishing above l'Arse.

The Gunners will have to find their way through the midfield shield of Wilson Palacios and Tom
Huddlestone in the North London derby.

He wasn't able to find away to stamp his quality over Arsenal's midfielders during a trial with
the club two years ago but Wilson Palacios now has a chance to do just that for the Gunners'
biggest rival.

Barclays Premier League stardom.
Midfield anchor man Palacios has become a favourite with Tottenham fans since his £12million
transfer from Wigan last January.

We're great when we're winning. Opponents are forced to push forward, and we duly pick them off
on the break, with the clinical precision of a trained sniper (until Keane starts stumbling over
his own feet). We have the players, including those on the fringes of the squad, to counter with
pace and inventiveness, on top of which it makes for a cracking spectacle.

If you enjoy those 15 half-time minutes when the subs come trotting out and half-heartedly ping
the ball around, you'll love tonight. Pav, Bentley, Hutton and Bale are all in line to start, as
‘Arry rings the changes with half an eye (in a manner of speaking) on Saturday's game.

Stoke at the Lane today and, if I'm being frank, we should batter 'em. And that's with all due
respect to Tony Pulis and his side of muscled brick houses. Anything less than three points is
calamity.
Jonathan Woodgate could be in line for a first start of the season but one suspects Harry Redknapp
may choose to blood him back into the side in the Carling Cup clash with Everton rather than today.

Believe it or not, win this by four goals and we'll be top of the table, albeit until Chelski
conclude their evening game. Try informing your nearest Spurs-supporting chum of this fact, and the
chances are that you will be greeted with little more than a nod of approval and a healthy dose of
perspective.

Not so much a game of two halves as a game of two thirds and a third third. We seemed to be
cruising serenely after an hour or so – but then that wouldn't be the Tottenham way, would it?
Cue a wild thump of the self-destruct button, the halving of our lead and a daft sending off. The
three points were eventually achieved in slightly nerve-jangling, harum-scarum style.

Well first the bad news. Sergeant Wilson is a likely absentee today after helping Honduras
qualify for the World Cup Finals on Thursday. However, he carries possibly the best no-show excuse
in the history of the game, as he is returning late on account of having been ordered to
stay behind and party, by the country's ruling military junta.

Mr Palacios, a message for you from the Ministry of Fun Tottenham will face Portsmouth without
midfielder Wilson Palacios this weekend because he has stayed in his native Honduras to party. We
know that Latin American footballer returning late from international duty after bender is like so
totally a cliché, but this story has a twist.

Since Harry brought Sgt. Wilson to the club, nearly all of us have been singing his praises. I say
'nearly' as there are some that don't quite get why the rest of us think the world of Palacios.
Unfortunately, in recent weeks, I think we've seen the worst of our tough-tackling Honduran.
There's no doubt that he's suffering from a lack of form.

Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano has been a bastion for the Catrachos
If representation in the world leagues were a criterion for winning, the Hondurans would be a
strong match for the US. Unlike Jozy Altidore, Jonathan Spector, and Oguchi Onyewu, these players
also get to make the starting squad.

A feeling I'm sure my old mother was subjected to when watching me pick up a fifty-meter
swimming badge back in primary school- looking on fondly as one of her own dropped, sans
grace, into a vat of partially diluted chlorine, swallowing an unhealthy dose of it, before
emerging, half-drowned at the other end like a dog being rescued from a river- I was awash with a
certain amount pride this week after discovering that esteemed members of our own stock,
Luka Modric and Wilson Palacios, had earned themselves a place on FourFourTwo's, frankly
excellent, ‘100 Best Players in the World' list 2009.

When Steve Bruce ended his playing career, everyone seem to know that the next logical step for him
was to have a career in club management. His no-nonsense and inspirational defender's display was
supposed to provide a springboard for him to inspire, motivate and drive a club forwards as
manager.
Even when other former players are finding the transition to club managers difficult, Steve Bruce
has proven himself to be a very good Premiership-level manager.

I miss Ledley. Some games we're so rampant going forward that he is barely needed at the back,
but on days like yesterday we cry out for someone to hold things together and be in the right place
– as well as dealing with any aerial bullying meted out by opposition forwards. The lack of a
commander-in-chief at the back was notable in the first half in which Spurs players competed
earnestly with each other to be the most obliging to our hosts.

And it had all begun quite encouragingly. Sitting back away from home and soaking up the
pressure just isn't the Tottenham way, so right from the off we took the game to that lot, giving
as good as we got in the first half. Jenas, Hudd and Palacios weren't far off with their long-range
efforts, and there was a gorgeous through-ball from Sergeant Wilson to free up Defoe in the early
stages.
