Momentum is a fickle thing in soccer, and in all sports really.

The Columbus Crew certainly have a lot of it after demolishing New York City FC 4-1 in the first leg of their Eastern Conference Semi-Final at MAPFRE Stadium last night. It was the latest success in what is now a 12-match unbeaten run that sees the team awfully close to a berth in the Eastern Conference Final.

MLS-based midfield shines in USMNT win

Entering Tuesday's friendly, much of the focus was on the U.S. Men's National Team's young European-based stars, and for good reason. The roster was littered with talented young prospects plying their trade at noteworthy European clubs.

But, when the final whistle sounded on Tuesday night, it was a trio of MLS regulars that stood out as the biggest key to victory.

The U.S. Men's National Team played a match on Sunday. It wasn't a particularly good match and it wasn't a particularly fun match. Largely, it was boring, disjointed and stagnant, even for a January Camp conclusion.

Still, it was a match that created several talking points and left several impressions from a U.

The U.S. Men's National Team played to a dull 0-0 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday in a game that taught us little about the potential prospects in the talent pool.

One of the players able to stand out among the pack was Columbus Crew midfielder Wil Trapp, who impressed enough during January camp to earn the captain's armband for the contest at the StubHub Center.
