Odd photo choice to accompany the Supporters' Shield entry on Wikipedia.
Is this supposed to imply some twisted version of the "he put the team on his back and carried them" sports cliché? "Luciano Emilio put the team on his golf cart and drove them to back-to-back Supporters' Shields.
As Stephen Goff reported earlier today, DC United traded Danny Cruz to Philadelphia, and as you
can see from this excerpt of Danny's Wikipedia page (since, unfortunately, altered), not everyone
was happy about this.
Personally, I think this is something wonderful, like ill-considered Tweets, the gifts that the
Internet just keeps on giving us.
With less than 24 hours remaining in the European football's summer transfer window, reports
have emerged in the British press that Arsene Wenger is trying to sign Chelsea's Michael Essien on
a season-long-loan deal.
English: Michael Essien, football (soccer) player (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Arsenal's recent goal-scoring troubles have overshadowed the fact that there is a big Alex
Song-sized hole in the central defensive midfield for Wenger to fill before today's 11pm
deadline.
Quite the transfer market for our gunners huh!? Obviously by now we are all well aware of our
latest signing, Santi Cazorla from Malaga. To be perfectly honest, even though I had only heard of
the guy in passing prior to the rumor mill starting to turn, this most recent signing is the one
that excites me the most.
It's official. Santiago Cazorla González, best known to his mates as Santi Cazorla, is now an
Arsenal player. The ambidextrous 27-year-old midfielder has been capped 45 times for his country,
and that's no mean feat when your national side, Spain, is the reigning European and world
champion.
And, again, it revolves around the comments of shareholder Alisher Usmanov, who gave an
interview to Forbes magazine critical of the board. He told the publication that decision making is
holding the team back, stating, "We do not consider just qualifying for the Champions League to be
the chief ambition of the club, and with all our hearts we support the team and wish them well for
the new season.
If, as is widely being reported, Santi Cazorla is the latest high-profile signing for Arsenal in
the off season, it does signal an intent to make some quality signings of international players
with undoubted skills that complement the squad. Cazorla should be able to make the transition to
the Premier League, and should allow the new look forward line to flourish.
Arsenal are reportedly close to acquiring Real Madrid
midfielder Nuri Sahin's services on a season-long loan deal.
(Goal.com)
Recent media reports suggested that Real offered Sahin to Tottenham as part of their bid to
bring Luka Modric to Santiago Bernabeu, but that hasn't deterred Arsene Wenger from making a move
for the Turkish playmaker.
It now seems clear that Robin van Persie has played his last game for Arsenal.
News that the Dutchman will not be involved in the club's pre-season tour of the Far East leaves
little room for doubt that he is on his way out of The Emirates.
It is being reported that Arsenal have turned down an offer from Manchester United and will only
entertain bids in excess of £20 million although, they are hoping to hold out for between £25 and
£30 million.
The universe demands that every young player serious about a successful career with the big boys
have their moment first; the one tabloid writers can reference as the time they burst onto the
scene, almost in ignorance to the wider picture, forgetting that they are where they are not
solely because of this moment, but because of the hard work that preceded it.
The news that Robin van Persie has rejected a new contract at Arsenal has everyone up in arms.
And, as always, there are thousands of opinions floating around in cyberspace and beyond.
Obviously, there are two trains of thought here. Good riddance RVP, we're fine without you, and
on the other side of the argument, Arsenal are doomed.
With the signing of Olivier Giroud, Arsenal can now claim to have three of the top international
strikers in Europe on their books. Of course, that's simply 'for now,' as rumours continue to swirl
around the long-term future of Robin van Persie.

We review Spain's 4-0 win over Italy in the Euro 2012 final, look back on the tournament by

finally, consider this Spain team's place in the history of soccer.
We also play some European Championship winners-themed Wikipedia Game.
We review England's dramatic win over Sweden, ask if and where Wayne Rooney fits into the team

And thus ended the career of New England Revolution stalwart Shalrie Joseph, not with a bang but
with a whimper.
Regardless of if you felt Shalrie was worth his new DP contract (I didn't), he is one of the
greatest Revolution players ever and one of the top defensive midfielders to ever play in MLS.
With two roster slots still wide open and at least one (possibly two) open international spots,
the New England Revolution have a lot of options to play around with in their search for mid-season
reinforcements. It can be agreed all around that defensive help and striker depth are the areas of
greatest concern for the Revs, and if rumors on twitter and in the Italian media are to be
believed, they may be about to address the former.
A-League side Adelaide United have been forced into making a particularly embarrassing admission
after the prodigious trialist they hyped to high heaven, one 25-year old Dexter Rosales, turned out
to be completely fictional.
Having scoured the internet for potential gems the world over, Adelaide announced that two
players were to be handed trials at the club former Chelsea reserve striker Fabio Ferreira and
Rosales, who was billed as having represented Ajax, Valencia, River Plate and Club Atletico Junior
as well as the US national side at U17, U20 and U23 level.
A-League side Adelaide United have fallen victim to a prankster as they desperately attempted to
bolster their squad. Their recruitment process seemingly followed the dubious process of scouring
the internet for potential leads... and then proudly inviting them for trials at the club.
Adelaide's extensive Googling threw up two names.
Following an extensive search for homegrown talent, Australian A-League side Adelaide Utd
announced last week that they were handing trials to two new overseas prospects. The first was
Portuguese striker Fabio Ferreira, who made a few appearances for Chelsea's second string in
2008/09.
The second was a promising 25-year-old American named Dexter Rosales, whose resume includes
Ajax, Valencia, River Plate, Club Atletico Junior and the US at Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23
levels.
By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (July 17, 2012) US Soccer Players – Scottish club soccer cedes
control If you checked the Wikipedia page for Scotland's Third Division shortly after it was
announced that Rangers would be playing there this season, you would've seen them listed as
"Cheaters." For enough Scottish soccer fans, that's the carryover from the Rangers fall from the
top of the club game to the bottom.
Soccer fans in the Pacific Northwest have gathered over the past few weeks in bars and cafes, or
hooked up their ESPN3-streaming computers to their television sets, to watch the impressive quality
of soccer being played in Poland and Ukraine. From Greece's unlikely upset of Russia to squeak into
the knockout stage, to the calm confidence Germany exerted over their "Group of Death," Euro has
not disappointed this year.
We mentioned yestesrday about De Rossi sleeves , I found the attached on Wikipedia which clearly
shows his tattoos n right arm , hence , one short sleeve and one long. For the good of the game We
admire him! Daniele De Rossi is one of those players who is a big man [...]

The Portland Timbers host the Seattle Sounders in the 3rd Round of the Cascadia Cup this afternoon.
The live broadcast comes immediately following the Euro 2012 Quarterfinal match between England and
Italy on ESPN.
Though yesterday's Group of Death final day had the potential to surprise like Group A's did on
Saturday, it ultimately worked out according to form. Germany finished off the group with 3
victories, while Portugal showed how pathetic this edition of the Oranje were sending them to their
third straight defeat, and back to a very unhappy Holland.
If Group B's closing matches today is anything like yesterday's crazy conclusion to Group A,
we're in for a doozy. The two unlikely outcomes 1-0 victories for Greece and Czech Republic over
Russia and Poland, respectively led to those two teams advancing to the quarterfinals.
The combinatorics of the Group of Death are just as convoluted as they were for Group A.
Wikipedia said Sebastien Le Toux has returned to the Philadlephia Union yesterday.
Except he hadn't.
A user of Wikipedia updated Le Toux's page to include a trade announcement from yesterday that would have sent the French forward back to the Philadelphia Union.
"Le Toux was traded back to the Philadelphia Union at the end of the 2012 MLS season," the update read.
The Asian Football Confederation has apologised to the United Arab Emirates for using an inaccurate nickname taken from Wikipedia on its official website. The UAE's team were nicknamed the 'Sand Monkeys' by the AFC after the moniker was copied blindly from a hacked Wikipedia page. The apology reads: "The AFC apologises for an editorial mistake [.

Pandilla.

Cole - Plenty of medals since 2006 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Ashley Cole is currently in the news for joining a long line of England penalty shoot-out
failures, but like him or loathe him, only the most churlish of fans would deny he is a highly
talented defender who has shown remarkable consistency over a very successful career.
The last round of group stage matches starts today, with the last two matches in Group A.
Meaning that we'll have our first two quarterfinalists by the end of the day. It also means the
day's two matches are played simultaneously. So get your picture-in-picture ready (or put one on
your TV and stream the other on your computer).
