Wes Brown was repeatedly given a hard time by Sir Alex Ferguson when it came time for contract
negotiations. In October 2004 the club had offered Brown what they believed to be a reasonable deal
and weren't prepared to budge.
"We've made the boy an offer and he's turned it down," said Ferguson.
Sir Alex Ferguson has spent 25 years as the manager of Manchester United and he has won the Premier
League 12 times, FA Cup 5 times, League Cup 4 times, the Champions League twice, 10...

... the number nineteen on a red background would slowly morph into 1-6 on a sky blue

Less than a fortnight later and Steve Bruce and Wes Brown were needed to ensure that Sir Ferguson's
25th anniversary was marketed correctly.
Dimitar Berbatov was the Premier League's top scorer seven months ago and lifted a record
breaking 19th title with Manchester United. He has been fourth choice striker at the club this
season though, behind Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez.
The club tried to sell the striker in the summer following his omission from the Champions
League final squad but the player wasn't having any of it, determined to stay on our books and
fight for his place and has behaved admirably since.
Manchester City scored three and stayed top of the table. Manchester United score five and
remained in second position. Tottenham and Chelsea, in third and fourth position respectively, play
each other on Thursday night. On the face of it, everything stayed the same. Manchester City first,
Manchester United second, Tottenham third and Chelsea fourth.
Sunderland may not be in trophy-winning form this season, but their victory in the
always-eventful 'sack race' may prove to be a blessing in disguise.
After looking tame and lacking confidence for much of this campaign under Steve Bruce, with a
paltry 11 points from 14 matches their return, new club chairman Ellis Short felt the club needed
to go in a new direction.
Nothing seems to be going so right for Sunderland at the moment, The Mackems created several
chances before going down to a 1-2 loss in stoppage time from a miscommunication from the defender
and the keeper. Featured player Nicklas Bendtner is still finding his feet in his new club, on his
10th appearance, He had a relatively quiet game yesterday, but played a part in Sunderland's
first goal cutting back onto his right foot, before smashing a low effort that bounced up towards
Al-Habsi, who fumbled it and it fell to Swedish midfielder Sebastian Larsson who smashed it in from
close range.

Sunderland 1-2 Wigan Athletic Premier League 26th November 2011
Argentinian striker Franco Di Santo is enjoying his best spell so far in England, after
struggling at Chelsea and Blackburn. The hitman netted his fourth of the current season at the
Stadium of Light, double what he had managed in his three previous seasons combined.
A key aspect of every Premier League side is the addition of new players in the summer. With the
league table starting to take a definitive shape, we look at some of the best and worst signings
from this past window, based on their performances thus far.
Winner: Sergio Aguero, Manchester City
Roberto Mancini may not be utilizing another free-scoring Argentine, but the addition of "Kun"
Aguero from Atletico Madrid has rendered Carlos Tevez almost irrelevant.
It's not often we choose a defender for our Funny Feeling Friday column and it's certainly not
often when we choose one playing for a club that has kept just 1 clean sheet in their last 6 league
games, ... Continue reading →

1. Wes Brown demonstrated the loyalty that Sir Alex Ferguson has instilled in his players during
his 25-year reign with an own goal winner for Manchester United. Having said that, if any
Sunderland player had scored an own goal there would have been a pretty good chance the player in
question was an ex-United player.

Manchester United 1-0 Sunderland Premier League 5th November 2011
United's 1-0 victory against Sunderland won't go down as one of their better performances during
Fergie's 25-year reign, as the home side failed to match the occasion with a big performance.
Featured player Nicklas Bendtner played the 90 minutes as Sunderland put on a brave performance at
Old Trafford this afternoon against Manchester United. Sunderland set out in a 4-4-2
counter-attacking system against Man-U with N.B-52 and Connor Wickham upfront but the later was
stretchered off early on due to a injury replaced by Ji Dong Won.
Manchester United went back to the 2nd place of the English Premier League table after defeating

It wasn't vintage United but they came away with the win thanks to former defender Wes Brown's
o.g from a Nani corner to keep Sir Alex Ferguson happy enough to celebrate his 25th anniversary as
Manchester United manager in style.

Echoing the sentiments of Kieran Richardson this week, another former Manchester United youth
product at Sunderland, Wes Brown, has claimed he is looking forward to returning to Old Trafford

"It'll be good. I'm really looking forward to going back to Old Trafford," said
Brown.

Darren Bent's first return to Wearside since his switch to Aston Villa has dominated the
headlines, but Steve Bruce will more concerned with trying to find what would only be his third
home win of 2011.
Alex McLeish is coming off the back of two losses; one far from unexpected, the other extremely
disappointing.
By 1970's GoonerIt was just as well that RVP got fouled by the slow ex Man Utd defender Wes Brown.
And of course just as well that RVP finally took a free kick after three others went woefully
unexploited.I say just as well because we did not look like really scoring even if we had the
domination and possession in the second half.
Coming off a long and quite International break, Arsenal were facing Sunderland at home in the
Sunday sun in what could have been billed as a 'relegation' match as both clubs were mired in the
bottom quarter of the table. Arsenal having started the season in their worst form since 1974, a
win was an absolute must for the men in red and white.
The United Task: How Liverpool should attack the game
Liverpool face Manchester United on Saturday having not lost to their fierce rivals at Anfield
since December 2007. The Reds will be eager to extend that run and close the gap on Alex Ferguson's
side to just three points, but against a team who are as yet unbeaten in the league season, who
have dropped just two points in seven games, how should Kenny Dalglish send his team out to gain a
positive result?
Sunderland were left shell shocked earlier on when West Bromwich Albion took a 2 goal lead in
the first 5 minutes. Firstly a foul was given middway through the Mackems half, It was swung in by
Chris Brunt and Scotsman James Morrison got on the end of it with a header to put the visiting side
in the lead.
Ryan Giggs has warned the youngsters coming through the ranks at Old Trafford that talent alone is
insufficient to make the grade at United.
The veteran midfielder feels a number of the club's teenagers are good enough to pull on the famous
red shirt but the important step is to have the fight and determination to succeed at the highest
level.
SIR BOBBY CHARLTON believes that Wayne Rooney can be the leader of the young Manchester United pack
evoking memories of Eric Cantona.
United great Charlton praised the important role Cantona played in helping nurture the careers of
David Beckham, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes in the 1990s.
After enjoying a great spell at Sunderland in 2008, Jonny Evans came back in to the United squad
and put in some really solid performances against some top teams.
However, after a couple of seasons in the first team squad, filling in whenever Rio Ferdinand or
Nemanja Vidic were unable to play, Evans endured a stinker of a season last year.
It was 50/50 in the end if Nicklas Bendtner would secure his loan move away from Arsenal to get
regular opportunities in the Barclays Premier League. NB52 ended up heading North-East, to
Sunderland. The club have made some decent signings this summer with John O'Shea, Wes Brown and
playmaker Sebastian Larsson coming into Stadium Of Light.
Former Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand secured a deadline day transfer to Premier League
newboys Queens Park Rangers. The 26 year old was faced with increased competition at the Stadium of
Light this season after the summer arrivals of former Manchester United defenders Wes Brown and
John O'Shea, and has opted for more playing time at QPR.
Following Wes Brown's transfer to Sunderland, Jonny Evans has been given his number 6 shirt
which he had worn since 2003. Evans' 23 shirt, which he inherited from Kieran Richardson, has now
been passed down to Tom Cleverley. Evans insists he's not bothered by the change in numbers though
and isn't at all superstitious about the shirt he plays in.

With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic both leaving the pitch injured in Manchester United's 2-1
opening weekend win over West Brom on Sunday, fans must have been wondering "Why did we get rid of

After spending the summer making a decuplet of signings that all rate somewhere fairly high on
the 'impressive' spectrum (Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Connor Wickham, Seb Larsson, Craig Gardner,
etc), Sunderland are about to add an eleventh and, perhaps, this one is the most impressive of them
all.

Sebastian Larsson made a superb start for Sunderland to score
on his debut and earn them a point at Liverpool.
It took only five minutes for the first penalty of the premiership season to be awarded after
Kieran Richardson tripped Luis Suarez.
