Throughout the holiday season, we will be trawling official club shops for the items that will make the very best gift ideas for the very worst people on your list. This week: Manchester United's Ferdinand and Brownsignatureposter print.
If you were looking to buy a gift for John Terry, congratulations, your search is over.
Nobody turns failure into fuel like Sir Alex Ferguson. His response to a trophyless season is
usually pretty uncomplicated: he just goes round collecting trophies like a giddy old broad in a
supermarket sweep. Since his breakthrough in 1990, Ferguson has only failed to win something in
five out of 22 seasons.
What would a day at the races be without a few (former and current) Manchester United
players?
Probably a less profitable one, as lordy these lads like to gamble.
Only three 'ballers braved yesterday's rain in their Chester Races suited finery: Darren
Fletcher (with wife, Hayley Grice), Wayne Rooney (also joined by his wife, Coleen) and ex-United
teammate/current Sunderland player Wes Brown (who went without Leanne Wassell).
After Wes Brown and John O'Shea were sold in the summer, Jonny Evans had a wake up call, and
admitted he might only have one more season left at the club if he didn't improve on his 2010-2011
form.
When Nemanja Vidic got injured in December it should have ended United's title hopes. The fact
that United have the best defensive record in the league this season, conceding just five more
goals than City, speaks volumes about the way he has played with Rio Ferdinand.
With every club having played twenty-five games in the 2011-12 season, February's midway point
sees six of them having conceded less than thirty goals: Manchester City with 19, Liverpool with
23, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur with 25, Sunderland with 26, and Everton with 27. And
on those sides, seven centre backs have played twenty or more games so far: City's Vincent Kompany
and Joleon Lescott, Liverpool's Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger, Sunderland's Wes Brown and John
O'Shea, and Tottenham's Younes Kaboul.
Sir Alex Ferguson has spent 25 years as the manager of Manchester United and he has won the Premier
League 12 times, FA Cup 5 times, League Cup 4 times, the Champions League twice, 10...
Dimitar Berbatov was the Premier League's top scorer seven months ago and lifted a record
breaking 19th title with Manchester United. He has been fourth choice striker at the club this
season though, behind Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez.
The club tried to sell the striker in the summer following his omission from the Champions
League final squad but the player wasn't having any of it, determined to stay on our books and
fight for his place and has behaved admirably since.
A key aspect of every Premier League side is the addition of new players in the summer. With the
league table starting to take a definitive shape, we look at some of the best and worst signings
from this past window, based on their performances thus far.
Winner: Sergio Aguero, Manchester City
Roberto Mancini may not be utilizing another free-scoring Argentine, but the addition of "Kun"
Aguero from Atletico Madrid has rendered Carlos Tevez almost irrelevant.
1. Wes Brown demonstrated the loyalty that Sir Alex Ferguson has instilled in his players during
his 25-year reign with an own goal winner for Manchester United. Having said that, if any
Sunderland player had scored an own goal there would have been a pretty good chance the player in
question was an ex-United player.

Manchester United 1-0 Sunderland Premier League 5th November 2011
United's 1-0 victory against Sunderland won't go down as one of their better performances during
Fergie's 25-year reign, as the home side failed to match the occasion with a big performance.
Featured player Nicklas Bendtner played the 90 minutes as Sunderland put on a brave performance at
Old Trafford this afternoon against Manchester United. Sunderland set out in a 4-4-2
counter-attacking system against Man-U with N.B-52 and Connor Wickham upfront but the later was
stretchered off early on due to a injury replaced by Ji Dong Won.
Manchester United went back to the 2nd place of the English Premier League table after defeating
visitor's Sunderland in a boring show at Old Trafford where the club celebrated the manager's 25
years...
It wasn't vintage United but they came away with the win thanks to former defender Wes Brown's
o.g from a Nani corner to keep Sir Alex Ferguson happy enough to celebrate his 25th anniversary as
Manchester United manager in style.

Echoing the sentiments of Kieran Richardson this week, another former Manchester United youth

Brown.
Talking Tactics: Manchester City's use of full backs against Sunderland is a post from: Just Football
Last Saturday's early lunchtime kick-off between Manchester City and Sunderland was, as expected, a relatively one-sided encounter with the English champions dominating the match and scoring three times against a Sunderland side missing defenders Phil Bardsley, Wes Brown and the suspended Lee Cattermole.
Manchester City scored three and stayed top of the table. Manchester United score five and
remained in second position. Tottenham and Chelsea, in third and fourth position respectively, play
each other on Thursday night. On the face of it, everything stayed the same. Manchester City first,
Manchester United second, Tottenham third and Chelsea fourth.
Sunderland may not be in trophy-winning form this season, but their victory in the
always-eventful 'sack race' may prove to be a blessing in disguise.
After looking tame and lacking confidence for much of this campaign under Steve Bruce, with a
paltry 11 points from 14 matches their return, new club chairman Ellis Short felt the club needed
to go in a new direction.
Nothing seems to be going so right for Sunderland at the moment, The Mackems created several
chances before going down to a 1-2 loss in stoppage time from a miscommunication from the defender
and the keeper. Featured player Nicklas Bendtner is still finding his feet in his new club, on his
10th appearance, Â He had a relatively quiet game yesterday, but played a part in Sunderland's
first goal cutting back onto his right foot, before smashing a low effort that bounced up towards
Al-Habsi, who fumbled it and it fell to Swedish midfielder Sebastian Larsson who smashed it in from
close range.

Wes Brown was repeatedly given a hard time by Sir Alex Ferguson when it came time for contract
negotiations. In October 2004 the club had offered Brown what they believed to be a reasonable deal
and weren't prepared to budge.
"We've made the boy an offer and he's turned it down," said Ferguson.

Less than a fortnight later and Steve Bruce and Wes Brown were needed to ensure that Sir Ferguson's
25th anniversary was marketed correctly.
With the kit being unveiled earlier today, we thought it high time to for Team GB at the London
2012 Olympics.
The only rules you have to abide by are the criteria for the actual selection: All players must
be aged 23 or under as of January 1st 2012 (with the exception of a maximum of three designated
'over age' choices) and, perhaps more importantly, actually be British - English,
Scottish, Welsh or Northern Irish.
Last Premier League Meeting: 20 August 2011 – Liverpool 1-1 Sunderland (Suarez)
Form:
Liverpool: The Reds' league form recently has been nothing short of abysmal, with the club dropping
key points and all but falling out of the race for a Champions League spot.
Wes Brown, who joined United when he was just 12-years-old, never quite had the career he should have done. Whilst winning plenty of medals and playing an important role in contributing to the success of 2007-2008, injuries stopped him from reaching his potential on a consistent basis.
Wes left the club for Sunderland two years ago, although can still be spotted on United away trips with our fans, and his younger brother, Reece, is still at the club.
