Why England Should Host the World Cup in 2018

Footy Factor 09 October @ 01:17 PM EST

This week FIFA Vice President Jack Warner said some pretty mean things about England's "lightweight" proposal to host the 2018 World Cup,  sending the bid's organizers into a defensive tizzy. Forget for a moment how some bureaucratic hack from a small Caribbean country could push the bid to the brink of defeat.

New series: Ranking the world's 'soccer meccas'

Soccer Source 22 September @ 11:17 AM EST

I don't think anybody could compete with that) but the old Wembley was demolished in 2003 and replaced with a new version four years later. Click to continue reading...

In the baking heat of London, Chelsea won the 2009 Community Shield on penalty kicks after a 2-2 regulation tie against Manchester United at Wembley Stadium. Here are some of my observations from the match. Feel free to add yours to the comments section.

  • The match was surprisingly much more competitive than I anticipated and it was clear that both teams wanted to win by fielding first-team squads and playing with a tenacity that has been missing from the Community Shield matches over the past several years.

United > England, Old Trafford > Wembley

Republik Of Mancunia 05 May @ 07:42 AM EST

In 1990, following the supposed need for all stadiums to become all-seater, Old Trafford's capacity dropped to just 44,000. Five years later work was completed on the East Stand, taking capacity to 61,000, before the second tier was added to the Stretford End, giving us a 68,217.
