Missed any important action this weekend? Well, firstly you should be ashamed of yourselves, as
we slaved over a hot Weekend Preview post so that wouldn't happen.
Second, why don't you just pop to the off-licence, purchase a bottle of their finest champers
and Fed-Ex it to Kickette HQ by way of apology?
Our weekend preview is here. Enjoy the games.
El Clasico Showdown
No major injuries to report from the midweek Champions League fixtures other than David Silva being
replaced after about an hour, holding his back, in Manchester City's 3-0 win. So let's get right to
our weekend preview, shall we? I. ... Continue reading →

The top two go head to head on Sunday when Manchester United take on neighbours and arch rivals
City at Old Trafford, and Sir Alex Ferguson's side have to be the call at odds-against.
We had such a radical time with last week's Point Break-style weekend preview that we're back
for more.
This time, we drop science with Martin Scorsese's "The Departed," an appropriate-themed movie as
the MLS season turns to Fall and teams start tumbling out off the playoff ladder and into the
offseason.
The opening matches of the 2011-12 English (sorry, Barclays) Premier League kick off in less than
an hour not to mention the fact that Ligue 1 and Bundesliga have been already been going to a
minute. So, just in the nick of time, we're back with our weekend preview here's our picks for
what you could/should be tuning in for this weekend.
In our debut episode, Ginge and Richard dip their toes in to the murky lake of football and
discuss the beginning of the European season over the weekend, preview the EPL and Richard manages
to upset fans of the WPS. It's a banner start really. CSRN MEDIA PLAYER
Duh.- A weekend preview of big Euro-tilts involving Americans- This week's Postcard: Team USA of
the Season in Europe- The latest Top 5 Continental Shifts at S365- A quick chat after Sunday's big
loss w/ Oguchi Onyewu- Greg Seltzer
STARTERSCosta Rica has officially been added to this summer's Copa America as replacement for Japan.
STORY OF THE DAYThings have gotten very insane and probably surreal for Celtic manager Neil Lennon.
The Herald reports that last night during their game against Hearts a man came out of the stands
and tried to attack him.
Holy crap. After this, there are just three more rounds of Serie A action before the summer.
Since this may be the second to last ever season of calcio, we really should take the time and
enjoy it.

Probable Game of the Weekend
Lazio-Juventus.
By Jon Levy Royal Wedding kicked off the weekend but the soccer should be nearly as exciting as a
Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen dress (I googled that, I promise), so let's just dive right in to
your Americanized Weekend Preview and viewing guide. MLS This week's marquee MLS matchup pits buddy
forwards Teal Bunbury [.
The Seattle Sounders are on the road this weekend in San Jose to face the Earthquakes. The
Sounders need to secure three points to get their season back on track especially against a rival
in the West for that vital third playoff spot. Dave Clark has three questions up for the game and
come back to SAH later today for a match preview and line-up card.
Another great post by Liam Blackburn. Liam has worked at The Sunday Times and The Manchester
Evening News. Check out his blog at http://samenamedifferentgames.wordpress.com/. Look out for our
Birmingham and Everton focused Weekend Preview column tomorrow morning. The fallout from last ...

One of the virtues of being a league-focused show is being able to use the FA Cup weekends as a
time to reset, take inventory of what's happening around the league, and focus on topics we
normally don't have time to address. On this weekend's edition of the show, Kartik Krishnaiyer and
myself talk about this weekend's action, results that saw the holders leave the FA Cup, before
shifting to looking at the league.
By Neil W. Blackmon Three thoughts on the week that was for your Friday morning, with a Puck's
Friday Happy Hour I think you'll find excellent and a weekend preview piece coming on a big Friday

The weekend preview edition starts with Olympic Stadium news and the potential return of Chris
Hughton, which I discuss with a special guest. Making his first appearance on the show is Kevin
McCauley (manager of CartilageFreeCaptain.com, managing editor of WorldSoccerReader.com, and
contributor at SBNation.
Only one of the league's top five stumbled mid-week, with Manchester City being drawn at St.
Andrew's, though Tuesday and Wednesday's matches were overshadowed slightly by Wednesday's news,
when the best right back in Premier League history announced his retirement. Because the sometimes
controversial way Gary Neville went about his business, many will overlook him being a maintain for
England and the standard on the right during the young history of the Premier League.
As I predicted in my recent article on 19th weekend preview , Trabzonspor could not handle the
pressure and lost their match against Fenerbahce in Istanbul.
First place team Trabzonspor after saying good- bye to Turkish Cup, is feeling the pressure in the
league too!
Fenerahce also ended Trabzonspor's 14-game unbeaten streak .
Perhaps at no point in the history of the United States Men's National Team has Turkey featured
so prominently, but with the closing of the European transfer window on Monday, the country's
soccer league was near the forefront of many USMNT supporters' minds. That's because a former
national team prospects going the the country's second level, a current national team player is
going to the first division's defending champions, and one of the teams stars nearly found himself
at a Gala (only to turn toward Birmingham for the last dance).
FA Cup third round replays and the built-up to the next round of English Premier League action
was overshadowed this week by the shock transfer of Darren Bent, who – two days after handing in
his transfer request at Sunderland – became the newest member of Aston Villa Football Club. The
AVFC club record acquisition did not come without controversy, with accusations of tapping-up and
an acrimonious response from Sunderland supporters clouding the days after the deal's
completion.
The two Manchester clubs finished the English Premier League weekend tied atop the league, with
Arsenal's win at West Ham United creating a gap between the top three and the other two recognized
title contenders. On this edition of the EPL Talk podcast, Kartik Krishnaiyer and myself take
inventory of the entire league, but with particular focus on one of the more interesting title
races we've had in many seasons, we ask whether Manchester United, in the wake of a good result at
White Hart Lane, are consolidating their lead or keeping their pursuers alive.
This will be a very abbreviated version of our weekend preview. Apologies in advance but there has
just been a ton going on here at NCNB headquarters 'off the pitch' (outside of the blog) but we are
doing our best ... Continue reading →
Edson Buddle has left Major League Soccer. What at first seemed like a thin, spurious connection
was affirmed on Monday, with 2. Bundesliga's 17th place Inglostadt signing the now former Los
Angeles Galaxy striker.
On this edition of the Major League Soccer Talk podcast, myself and co-host Christopher Riordan
talk about the whys, hows and what nows of Buddle's departure - how it impacts league, club,
national team, and us.
The FA Cup's full weekend came an went in the show of the new around Anfield Park, where Roy
Hodgson and Liverpool mutually agreed to part ways before the Reds took the pitch Sunday at Old
Trafford. There, Howard Webb tilted the match, giving a dubious second minute penalty. When Steven
gerrard saw straight red just after the half-hour mark, Liverpool was on their way out of the FA
Cup, their 1-0 loss to Manchester United a sour return to the bench for King Kenny Dalglish.

Now's the time to talk about some of the bigger name U.S. players plying their trade overseas,
names we didn't get to on the first two shows of the week. Today, we look at Spain, Germany, Italy,
France and Mexico, asking about the progress the likes of Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley, Charlie
Davies, Oguchi Onyewu and Jose Francisco Torres are making at their respective clubs.
Only one of the English Premier League's top six clubs entering mid-week action came away with
three points from Tuesday and Wednesday fixtures, and unfortunately for those looking for the title
race to stay as close as possible, that club was league-leading Manchester United, winning 2-1 on
Tuesday versus Stoke.
There was a time when coverage of United States' players outside Major League Soccer could have
fit into one podcast. The growing influence of the U.S.'s best on the global games means my
co-host, Christopher Riordan, and myself will have a series of shows this week discussing those
players in or on the fringe of the U.
The Top Five have separated themselves from the league after Sunday's draw at Stamford Bridge.
Ciaran Clark's stoppage time equalizer means five points separate fifth place Chelsea from
Sunderland, the Black Cats' win over Blackburn vaulting Steve Bruce's charge over Bolton, into
sixth place.
