Where next for Paul Buckle?

Forget Roy Keane, among the weapons the now former Bristol Rovers manager Paul Buckle had in his armoury was an icy stare that could single-handedly re-freeze the polar ice caps. I've seen it used on misbehaving players in training, at fans who've had a differing opinion, and at journalists (including myself) who've asked questions that he doesn't think are worth answering (which, on some occasions, has been a fair response).

Arsenal (in the colloquial) means an array of weapons. I wish we had more than RvP banging them in, but it sounds about right to me.

Dortmund, on the other hand, to me* is a beer. I u-brewed a "Dortmunder" a few months ago. So, while beer is a powerful and beautiful thing, it is nothing compared to an array of weapons, right?

The shock factor in football brawls is pretty much dead at this point, outside of someone bringing a cache of weapons from the bench or a nine year old throwing perfect eight-punch combos in a church rec league at the ordained referee. And even then....

These are fifteen year-olds from Russia, teams of Vladikavkaz & Rostov, partaking in a third-place game and some extensive extracurricular activities.

There was a bit of a mess in Switzerland back in May when the fans of Zurich and Basel, not quite friendly, also took on those charged with keeping the peace with various weapons fashioned expertly from anything in the general vicinity of their person.

The videos were just released by the Swiss police last week, and they're not exactly a shining light of the well-behaved football fan.

When it comes to goals, it's easy enough to find out who has scored them. As the season goes on, the hard part is remembering how the goals were scored. Did this goal come from open play or was it a set piece? Was that goal from a throw in or was it from a corner kick.

Few thoughts on the first half;

  • Bob Bradley did it again. No one expected Freddy Adu to start in the final and no one expected to see Donovan up top as a lone striker.
  • Mexico looked the more dangerous side, and with all of their weapons it was only a matter of time before they scored.

AEK fans celebrate cup win by ‘setting Greek football back 100 years’

By some grotesque strain of logic, it only seems natural that a season already wretchedly scarred by the "derby of shame" and PAOK fans hitting AEK players with flares would include a cup final that "set Greek football back over a hundred years," according to Atromitos president Giorgos Spanos.
His side lost to AEK by a score of 3-0 in a Greek Cup final in Athens' Olympic Stadium on Saturday that was cut short when AEK fans stormed the pitch and fought Atromitos and riot police with broken seats, advertising hoardings and whatever else they could turn into weapons.

The Galaxy fell short, but after a busy off-season that saw leading scorer Edson Buddle leave and Colombian striker Juan Pablo Angel replace him, Los Angeles once again heads into a season as a major MLS Cup favorite.

Long live the King

Liverpool fans are often claimed to be some of the most rational and intelligent in the world. They hardly ever turn on a manager (and Hodgson very nearly turned on them first) and they know the difference between a bad team and a team that is being badly managed.
