Last weekend I phone the Danny Baker Show in order to try and save Goodison and Blundellsands (home
of Everton FC and Waterloo RUFC respectively) from his totalitarian demolition crews....I was less
than successfull but Hey, it was early on a Saturday morning, I didn't do too bad.

The day before the day before the season and I am a bundle of nerves.
Everything kicks off in Essex against Chelmsford City on Saturday and although we really need a
good start I have no idea how we are going to begin. The evidence is decidedly mixed.
Last year we struggled to score goals in the preseason and the regular season.

I was listening to some Duke Ellington the other day, and was struck by just how low our standards
for song lyrics are these days. Take this lyric from Come to Baby, Do!
So pucker up my sweet
and meet your Waterloo
Come to baby, do!
How many people writing songs these days even know what Waterloo is?

Odd day. Up early this morning for a presentation in Bracknell, out to that, spent two hours
talking, back again, nip down to Crockatt & Powell to say hello to Matthew, up to Waterloo, and oh
look, there's Mark Schwarzer in WH Smith, buying himself a copy of The Times. In those famous
hands were several Harrod's food hall bags (staff discount, I imagine).

Waterloo Rugby Club handed a survival lifeline
At long last something that isn't doom and gloom. If that is all sorted then it really is great
news. I don't care where the team ends up, I am going to support them wherever.

One of the chaps over on the Rolling Maul National League Rugby Union Forum post this link which
gives absolutely superb information on Rugby Union results & stats.
Extremely useful because the information isn't always available for very long....in the case of
Waterloo, however, it might be better if the data was just locked in a vault somewhere where no-one
can ever find it.

I have to say that's the first time I've ever used that phrase. On the 81 going to the match today
I found a couple of conkers I'd picked up weeks ago intending to throw them onto a field
somewhere.
They were in my pocket all day today and after two marvelous performances by my teams they are now
officially my lucky conkers.

Everton 0 - 2 liverpool
Blackheath 48 - 12 Waterloo
Ugh, what a crappy weekend of sport. Everton got lost the derby and Waterloo got another beating
down in Blackheath.
The main problem with Everton on Saturday was that their usually hard-to-play-against 4-4-1-1 was
shackled all day and kept as a 4-5-0-1.

Chris O'Callaghan leave Waterloo.
HEAD coach Chris O'Callaghan has resigned from Waterloo following three successive defeats have
left them at the bottom of National Two.
O'Callaghan joined the club just before the start of last season following relegation from National
One.
"Chris has left the club by mutual agreement," said chairman Simon Robb.

So we approach the new seasons and I'm feeling pretty rubbish about them. Everton have marked time
for 2 months whilst everyone else has strengthened and reports from inside Blundelsands are about
as frequent as those from inside Area 51.
It would appear that my two teams are becalmed...not expecting great things from either team this
season to be honest.

Right now I feel that "Tommy's Army" stands like General Wellington waiting for the
Hessians reinforcements to arrive at Waterloo. Except that when Wellington absolutely needed the
Germans to arrive... they did. So far, no one has arrived over that hill to relieve the strain.

Waterloo Rugby Club look at moving ground
Can my sports clubs just stop leaving their beautiful traditional old homes please....is it too
much too ask. First Everton ditch our wonderful old stadium for some souless-modern logistical
nightmare out in the sticks....Now Waterloo are looking to move.

Let's start with The Yak....he looks the business at the moment. I think that's the first perfect
hat-trick I've ever seen. One with the left foot, one with the right and header (in one half with
no-one else scoring in between). Brilliant stuff. Yakubu Aiyegbeni take a bow.

Tough times at Waterloo, they got battered last week after the heroics against Blackheath
icLiverpool - Injury woe continues for coach O'Callaghan
Last week the Merseysiders were without backs and they were forced to play a back row forward, Matt
Bradley, on the wing.
Neil Kerfoot has not set foot on a field at all this season after suffering a groin injury at the
end of last term.

Phew, what a difference a week makes eh...last weekend England and Everton had been beaten victims
of varying degrees of dodgy refereeing and Waterloo had been beaten tamely at Cambridge. Bit
depressing let me tell you.
Thursday's UEFA game again Larissa was a real tonic for our battered egos so Saturday was "once
more onto the breach" as we tripped out to Blundellsands for Waterloo v Blackheath.

Watched two games of rugby on Saturday and it has to be said that both results were a bit of a
travesty. Waterloo just couldn't get to grips with Redruth but were gifted two tries and in the end
won 25 - 19. A win is a win but again they looked scrappy. Great to see O'Donnell and Ruwers back
for us. Both superb players. Commiserated with a Redruth coach after them game.

We squeezed a lot in this weekend. Our friends Helen & Andy popped up to visit on Friday night and
we went to a beer festival at Liverpool Cricket Club and had a thoroughly good time. It was put on
by The Beer Festival Company and was really well organised, definitely recomend it. All that fun
meant I missed the England/Tonga game but WAP phones meant we kept in touch with the score and so
soothed my nerves.

Hot on the heals on Lancashire's disappointment Everton & Waterloo both lose at the weekend.
*Pout*.
Judging the mood of the Evertonians I know I am fearful or another Villareal effect if we don't
turn it round in the second leg against Metalist. I hope not 'cause it was a cripplingly depressing
season two years ago. Again, depsite being talked of as shangri-la European football might well
turn into a poison challice for Everton.

Double header against the Manchester teams met with mixed results
Waterloo V Manchester
Everton V Manchester
Didn't get to see either game 'cause we were at a family wedding (who gets married during the footy
season). Despite my best effort to pout about missing the sport we all had a great time. My cousin
Gary and his new wife Kirstie did us proud laying on a brilliant party.

icLiverpool - Otley 25, Waterloo 15
Hmm, what's wrong with this sentence :
"Waterloo took an early lead with a penalty by Alex Davies but tries from Otley's Dan Smith,
converted by Alan Greendale, and Paul Williams gave the Yorkshire side a 12-0 lead at the
break."
That was always going to be a toughie, pity we didn't nick a losing bonus.

Welsh Rugby Union : O'Callaghan joins Waterloo
This is good news...him and Joe Lydon have a good pedigree although it's unclear exactly how much
the latter will be involved. Need some players to come in though. We have one second rower signed
up so far to my knowledge but not sure about who else.
The same could said about Everton.
