The 1913-14 season saw the launch of the National Challenge Cup, the competition now known as
the US Open Cup, by the recently founded United States Football Association. While the National
Challenge Cup would quickly become the singular competition for the title of Champion of the United
States, the American Cup tournament had been founded in 1885 by the American Football Association,
the first soccer governing body in America.

No draws! We hope, for the Woolpack Wanderers' sake, that relegation isn't going to be an issue
come the end of the season.

While posing a hypothetical question to the Union Twitterati whether they would accept $2.75
million for Sebastien Le Toux, Jonathan "The Goalkeeper" Tannenwald mentions, "I've been told there
has been no offer yet."
Meanwhile, Daily News reporter Kerith Gabriel writes, "It's likely the Union will start the 2012
campaign without Frenchman Sebastien Le Toux.
Philadelphia Union
Sebastien Le Toux tweeted this morning, "I spent a great week at BWFC. Great club with great
people. Now back in Philly." We are waiting for confirmation on this from the Union on this and if
this means there will be no transfer to Bolton.
Following the successful appeal to secure Tim Ream the UK work permit necessary to complete the
defender's move to the Wanderers, Owen Coyle tells The Bolton News that he plans to "add one or two
more to take us on to the second half of the season" before the close of the transfer window on
January 31.

A report from The Bolton News on Friday quotes Wanderers' manager Owen Coyle on Sebastien Le
Toux, "I've had some decent reports on him. He's very industrious, hard working and looks a very
good team player, which is what I'm all about.
Bolton's battle to avoid relegation received an unexpected boost with victory over a Liverpool side
who need to improve quickly if their season is not to unravel around them.
Midfielders Mark Davies and Nigel Reo-Coker gave the home side a deserved 2-0 lead inside
half-an-hour and although Craig Bellamy's seventh of the season reduced the deficit, Gretar
Steinsson restored the two-goal cushion just five minutes into the second half.
There is a long way to go in the Premier League title race, but the battle between Manchester and
north London this weekend could prove pivotal.
Top plays third and fifth plays second as competition at the top hots up. Manchester City put their
100 per cent home record on the line when they take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, while
cross-city rivals Manchester United travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal just hours
later.

Ha! Tim Ream's wife Kristen should know by now American soccer nuts are a skittish type. Here's the
just-confirmed skinny: All agreements are in place for the move to Bolton. The frustration Mrs.
Ream had yesterday was in regards to rescheduling her hubbie's UK work permit hearing. It would
seem that Wanderers are trying to get approval before announcing anything.
Sebastien Le Toux will have a week to impress the Bolton Wanderer's coaching staff, according to
manager Owen Coyle. The Scot confirmed reports out of the United States that Le Toux was on his way
to Bolton on a trial ahead of a possible transfer.
"We have received good reports about Sebastian, so we thought we would give him an opportunity
to come into the group," said Coyle.
Jonathan Spector hopes to help Birmingham City reach the fourth round of the FA Cup with a replay
win over Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Winning ugly is something we're all familiar with, despite the doubts expressed in this blog
over the years that's an over-used euphemism for a lousy performance that we've got away with. Call
it resilience or luck if you like, one reason for Spurs' success in this time is our improved
ability to sneak a win when we are off-colour.

Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers Premier League 14th January
2012
Much has been written and spoken in recent weeks about Tottenham's title burgeoning title
credentials. However, against Wolves at White Hart Lane, the Lilywhites somewhat struggled to live
up to the hype, producing a disappointing display in front of their home fans.
Right. I'm back. Well not really- I'm still temporarily on hiatus exploring the vast riches that
Monaco has to offer at the moment. But, I couldn't resist the urge to get something online after
leaving Jack to fend for himself for what seems like an eternity. The basics? Yes, I'm married.
Yes, I'm delighted.
In a game that was set back 24 hours, Wolverhampton Wanderers made like the staff of the London

It was billed as a match in which the losing manager would get fired, and if that is the case
then it will be a much happier Christmas in the Coyle household this season than the Kean one as
Bolton beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 in a relegation six pointer.
The result means Blackburn replace Bolton at the foot of the Premier League, and Rovers will be
bottom at Christmas with only one team avoiding relegation from that position.

Chelsea's recent winning streak was halted by a 1-1 draw at Wigan Athletic, Jordi Gómez
capitalising on a horrible mistake from Petr Čech to equalise two minutes from time.
The Blues were on course for a fourth consecutive Premier League win when Daniel Sturridge
collected a long, diagonal ball from Ashley Cole and drilled a shot across Ali Al-Habsi after 59
minutes.
According to the current Premier League orthodoxy, the Vandals are playing the Visigoths at
Molineux this afternoon. Wolverhampton Wanderers and Stoke City don't fit with the marketing
profile of the division. These are two clubs that upset people aesthetically. They're not as
glamorous as some would like, and they don't play football in the way that those that seem to care
about this sort of thing are concerned, and neither do they just sit back and accept their
inevitable fate.

Manchester United 4-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers Premier League 10th December
2011
It may not make up for their Champions League horror-show in midweek, but by comfortably beating
Wolves at Old Trafford, Manchester United at least rediscovered some of their attacking verve.
It is being reported that Premiership side Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on taking Arsenal
youngsters Emmanuel Frimpong and Francis Coquelin to the Molineux on loan deals until the end of
the season. Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has confirmed his interest in both players. "We played
Arsenal in the reserves and I watched them the other [.
It is reported today that Mick McCarthy has his eye on two Arsenal youngsters to boost his
side's campaign this term. A campaign which despite a good result recently, is still a fight to
avoid relegation.
The win against effectively a managerless Sunderland side at the weekend put daylight between
the old gold and black and the bottom three.
Aloha and good morning. Just a quick one from me. What to say about Bolton? Not a great deal if
I can help it. In his comparatively short turn at t'Reebok, Owen Coyle's managerial stock has
fallen somewhat rapidly. From the Glaswegian Wenger to Sue Barker in the time it takes to polish
and glue in those unfeasibly white teeth.
Whatever the hell you think is going on at Chelsea right now, whatever you think the club is
mired in A Carlo-esque bad moment, crisis, et al. it doesn't matter. What we all can agree on is
that anything less than a win this weekend at home to Wolves is going to see the shit hit the
proverbial fan.
Barcelona president Sandro Rosell's recent comments that some sort of pan-national European
Super League is being discussed ahead of the 2014 expiry of the ECA's agreement with UEFA comes as
the latest and boldest overture about an idea that has gone from far-off theory to potential
reality.
Rosell proposed a reduction of top-flight space in the major European leagues to 16 teams,
stating "We want a bigger Champions League and hope one day we could play perhaps Barcelona versus
Manchester United on Saturdays.

Well done to Wycombe for signing up to the Government Charter for Action to stamp out homophobia
and transphobia, the first football club to do so. Admittedly the Charter is rather woolly, a set
of four vague pledges with no concrete targets or deadlines, but the sentiment is key, and
Wanderers' stated commitment laudable.

Liverpool 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers - Premier League September 24 2011
King Kenny's Liverpool side battled hard to end a disappointing run of two league defeats in a
row against a decent Wolves side.
Wolves' summer signing Roger Johnson opened the scoring with an unfortunate own-goal before Luis
Suarez made it two before the break.

Stuart Holden got back into the mix this Tuesday playing for Bolton in a 2-0 win over Aston

Holden had to undergo reconstructive surgery and subsequent rehabilitation for his injured
knee.

That said, standing in the River End during a game, you can't help but be optimistic that MLS is
veering toward an organic and testosterone-driven experience. That is perhaps the biggest sign of
soccer's growth in this country.
