Another international break and it all went a bit medieval. After being slain in a distant land we
embarked on a spot of regicide. So it's bye, bye George and hello .... ? God save the king, whoever
he might be.We don't know. Walter Smith and Mark McGhee have already said they don't want the job.

Scotland suffered an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Wales at the weekend to signal the end of George
Burley's Scotland career after only 22 months in charge. This was not the first time that Burley's
position as Scotland manager had come under scrutiny, however where he had been given more time
previously, time had well and truly run out for him this time around.

Now that the bunting has been torn down from between the tenements and the houses and the last of
the party revellers bundled into a taxi for the long ride home, the mandarins at the SFA find

4-1, 4-1. Not only Walter Smith's most likely formation for tonight but also the defeats Rangers
have suffered in their last two European games. The perceived wisdom is that it's a formation that
works better away from home. As it's the formation that will be in use against Unirea Urziceni
you've really got to hope that's the case.

Rangers face a crunch Champions League night this week and one of their stars has stressed the
importance of the tie.
The Scots are currently bottom of Group G with only one point and enter a tie away in Romania
against Unirea Urziceni knowing that another defeat will put an end to their distant hopes of
qualifying for the next round, or even booking a place in the Europa League.

As the saga at Rangers continues towards a potentially horrid (or amusing, depending on your

John Hughes described Walter Smith as the "godfather" of Scottish football managers the other day.
In recent weeks, however, Smith's traditional taciturn gravitas has been replaced by a more haunted
look, the look of a man who spends his long, sleepless nights wondering what went wrong. When he
returned to Rangers he knew there would be hard work ahead.

A midweek prediction special as Scottish football's least revered competition reaches the quarter
final stage.Dundee v RangersRangers rediscovered some vim on Saturday but, crucially, still
couldn't overcome Hibs. This is a poor Rangers side further distracted by off the field disasters.
Quite a contrast to Dundee who are flying high and luxuriating in new found riches.

George Burley's future as Scotland manager may be hanging in the balance but Ally McCoist
believes the national team's problems date back much further than the current regime.
The former Scotland striker always had faith in his nation's ability to compete against the best
in the world and that belief was reinforced when he took his seat alongside the Tartan Army at
Hampden and watched Burley's men match the might of Holland.

A summer season for Scotland? John Boyle, chairman of Motherwell, raised the prospect once again
as he advocated a switch to a summer season and a long winter break.
This adds to the support for the move from Walter Smith, the Rangers manager, and Gordon Smith,
the SFA chief executive, but Boyle was far more assertive in making the economic argument for the
move saying "To be candid, I think the financial case for summer football has overrun the football
