Former US international and current Fox Soccer broadcaster Eric Wynalda may be called many things, but one of them is definitely not "shrinking violet." Wynalda, at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention in Kansas City, Mo.

"We are ourselves" — that's what Jürgen Klinsmann wanted to teach the players of Bayern Munich. He wanted them to "open up"; he wanted to get to know them, to "look inside" them, to meet their emotional needs. It was a philosophy of liberation — of helping players to get beyond the inhibitions of consciousness, back to some easy inner self.

My SI.com article got quite a bit of response, and I've posted a few emails here that are pretty representative overall.

From M.S.:
C'mon Andrea, everyone knows what a mean and nasty bastard Wynalda is -- he's lucky to still have a job on the air with his bitter criticism of everyone and everything always leaking out all over the place.

While there's still much for us to discuss re: the Barcelona/Real Madrid CL tie since our last recap, we've elected to keep things short and sweet this time around.

Why? Mainly because we have bigger and better things on our plates. Like photoshopping our new Finest Five together, for example.

Monterrey will join Real Salt Lake in the CONCACAF Champions League final.

Humberto Suazo's 81st-minute penalty kick sealed a 1-1 draw at Estadio Azul Wednesday night, lifting Monterrey past Cruz Azul, 3-2 on aggregate in their CCL semifinal.

Cruz Azul, looking to reach the CCL final for the third consecutive year, looked to be on its way after Cesar Villaluz scored in the 24th minute to level the aggregate score and give Cruz Azul the edge because of its away goal in the first leg.

It was fifteen years ago today that Eric Wynalda tallied the only goal of the Inaugural Match in Major League Soccer.

There were those who said it would never, ever survive, but here we are fifteen years later, with an 18-team league that's on its way to 20.

The season is just over a week away from starting. Seriously, containing my excitement for the season is getting hard to do. While I still have my questions about the team, I'm so ready for this season to start. I mean a week from now I'll be in LA for the opener against Chivas USA. Trips to LA and Chicago to kick off the season will certainly help with my excitement for this season.

By our decree.

Aris took on financial behemoths Manchester City during the week in a Europa League match which ended nil-nil, arguably a small victory for the Greek side, even if they were playing in the Balkans. And though they didn't score on the pitch, they scored in the program with a none-too-subtle dig at Man City's trillionaires and the size of its squad by adding just a few more big names.

A Crawley Town fan was arrested after a music video designed for the club's FA Cup tie with Manchester United was spotted on YouTube featuring some unfavorable references to the 1958 Munich plane crash.

At first it's something like Where's Waldo: FA Cup Song Edition, largely because it's impossible to distinguish airplane movements from your average terrible music video dancing (scientific fact).

The Boy King of New York & Jersey may not be getting as much playing time for his club as most of us would like to see but that's not going to stop 723 Films from dropping a mixtape of his USMNT exploits. And that's a good thing really because I think some folks out there have forgotten just how hot the kid is; don't let all the Spanish pine-riding fool you, dude is still probably the most legit American striker since Waldo.
