Adelaide dominated this game and yet pulled it out of the fire in injury time. GC went down to 10
mid way through the 1st half and should have been 9 by half time. Adelaide had perhaps the highest
possession of any team this season 70% plus, huge numbers of corners, many free kicks but couldn't
get anywhere near goal.

Well you wouldn't have expected this. Coach McKinna asked Kwasnic, Simon and Mijra to all step up
and score and they did.
On Friday night, Adelaide's Coach Vidmar joked that his side needed to play 4 up front to score.
Well, once his side was down 0-1 to Kwasnic's cracking half bicycle, Melbourne's Coach Merrick
tried just that.

Even the most diehard Adelaide United supporter would find it hard to argue that they deserved
their point against North Queensland last night. Not only did Ufuk Talay and Daniel McBreen hit the
woodwork for the visitors, but in the second half Adelaide were comprehensively outplayed at home,
as rarely before.

Gold Coast United has lifted the bar for domestic football in Australia.
Jason Culina, Joel Porter, Shane Smeltz, Robson, Bas Van Den Brink all lit up the Brisbane night
with intelligent, skilful football. 3-1 to United. Great for the A-League, great for football fans
everywhere.
Joel Porter particularly caught my eye.

A couple of A-League club fanzines have flared briefly before dying over the last few years, but I
hope that an engaging new publication from Adelaide United fans, Because of a Pissant Town, can
build up a head of steam and flourish.
The title is, of course, a reference to Aurelio Vidmar's notorious comment towards the end of last
season, and Bill of The Spawning Salmon has been the chief driving force behind the mag.

In years gone by, I've attempted to provide a separate preview for all of the A-League clubs prior
to the season. This time, with ten teams now taking part and the various pre-seasons being played
out a little more obscurely, it's a tough ask, so herewith a quick ramble about the whole lot on
the eve of A-League Mark 5.

Mariners and Jets both needed wins in matchday 4 and despite some notable performances they both
flopped badly to Japanese sides.
Yes that's right the "technically better Japanese sides".
But maybe it's not the technical difference between the players that is so crucial to results
against Japanese sides.

Aurelio Vidmar, the coach of Adelaide United lost with cool following his teams 4-0 loss at the

Gary Van Egmond is still the best, but Aurelio Vidmar is on the move...and quick.
Van Egmond's side were a goal down to Adelaide and having used their three subs and when Jason
Hoffman got injured they were down to ten.
But Van Egmond did what few coaches ever do even when they have a full complement.

It's Adelaide United' chance to make history..tonight.
Finals football in September, and midweek to boot. Great news. So put away your Hawks and Geelong
scarves until the weekend, it's time to support the mighty Aussies, the mighty Reds.
And looking good for a sell-out withover 12,000 tickets pre-sold.

Adelaide taking their city to Asia, and I ain't talking about the Crows!Anyone who saw Urawa Reds or Gamba Osaka take on Sydney and Melbourne in previous Asian Champions
League encounters will have expected the cashed up Japanese club Kashima Antlers to give Adelaide a
good thumping in the home game of the Asian Champions League Quarter Finals.

Quarter Finals of the Asian Champions League kick-off tonight with Australia's first club, Adelaide
United, to get to this stage of the competition away in Japan against Kashima Antlers.
Two-legged affair so United will need to score against what should be a very strong Japanese side
and a big big test for Adelaide.

Sorry for the brevity with today's post, but I'm ultra busy with reality today. Cheers.
- The real reason Buffalo Sabre Maxim Afinogenov was a scratch from the Eastern conference
semifinals last season? He was playing that wimpy sport soccer and slammed is head on the
concrete.
- Convincing the coach that you're an eligible freshman and not a ball boy anymore sometimes pays
off for everyone.
