You know that baby wanted a photo with Martin Palermo... but his family stopped
Veron's sleek black ride instead as it drove up to Estudiantes' training ground
last week. The baby's got the "Papa, you lied. We were supposed to go to Boca's training
ground, dammmit!

Julio Grondona and Pirates of the Caribbean star,
Veron, presented Argentina's 2010 World Cup jerseys yesterday. So what's the
verdict, futbolitas? D'ya like it enough to wear it? Also, Veron had to
be nice when they asked him what he thought of the ongoing Bilardo-Dona rivalry.

"¿Sabés lo que me duele a mi? Acá lo estamos acusando como si Diego hubiera asesinado a 10
millones de personas. El se desahogó y es difícil ser Diego Maradona. Diego es un gran tipo pero
no lo toquen en el lado que le duele para sacar provecho de eso".
"A Bielsa lo mataron, lo liquidaron.

1. The governing bodies have finally succeeded in stacking the deck so firmly in favour of the
major footballing nations that it is almost impossible for them not to qualify. Portugal won just
two of their first seven games, but still managed to reach the playoffs simply because over the
course of such a long group, they had time to recover.

A very lucid and honest analysis from Veron about the national team struggles. As he said,
everything has been done wrong from Grondona all the way down to the players.
There aren't too many players that would make such a statement.

Imagine a world cup without the world's best player? It's still a distinct possibility with
Argentina stuttering over the finish line. Defeat tonight and the unthinkable may become a
reality.
If Diego Maradona's Argentina lose to Uruguay and Ecuador beat Chile, who have already
qualified, then Argentina will miss out.

Here's a report by TELEFE on the possible starting lineup against Uruguay.
Veron is in. Palermo will be on the bench and Messi will be in the starting lineup no matter
what as long as Maradona is the manager.
Demichelis is in. Insua is out.
Maradona will go with 4 central defenders (Demichelis, Schiavi, Otamendi, Heinze) against
Uruguay.

From one of the most unforgettable Argentina-England games. A well practiced free kick play,
brilliantly executed by Batistuta, Veron and el Pupi Zanetti.

The biggest surprise of the latest call up list is of course Pablo Aimar.
Will Aimar be able to step in and lead Argentina's attack?
Though not a traditional playmaker, Aimar is certainly capable of participating in the play
build up and has good passing skills.
And what about Aimar linking up with the players upfront?

We all know that Argentina-Brasil is the biggest rivalry and the biggest game in world
football.
Because of Argentina's place in the WC qualifying standings, today's game is of even more
importance than usual. Today's game is for Argentina, as big of a must win as any game has ever
been against Brasil.

According to Maradona and the player, Veron will be fit and available for the game against
Brasil.
I really find that hard to believe as injury prone as Veron has been.
Argentina will once again have a less than fit Veron in the lineup for a very important
game.

So Shevchenko has finally ended his Chelsea nightmare and rejoined Dynamo Kiev. Once the most
feared striker in the world, he never really made an impact at Chelsea, which is a shame because it
has tainted his once fearsome reputation, and he seemed to deal with the whole situation with some
dignity.

Well, the big game is almost a week away and it is time to begin the speculation about the
starting lineup.
So who will be in the starting eleven against Brasil?
The GK will definitely be Andujar.
And the rest?
Though this wouldn't be the ideal team in my opinion, I think Maradona will go with:
D Zanetti
D Burdisso
D Otamendi
D Heinze
M Maxi Rodriguez
M Mascherano
M Veron
M ?

Only 2 weeks in and the "focos rojos" are already blaring.
Pumas did not have a very good pre-season. They have a hard time beating Atlas at the Jalisco and
Cruz Azul at home. So it's really no surprise that they have yet to get off the schneid. To make
matters worse, the first goal was one of the worst (yet hilarious) own goals we'll ever see.

With all that went on with the Gold Cup over the past week, I almost forgot that the Mexican 2009
Apertura kicked off last week. As usual, there were plenty of surprises: Jaguares winning at Cruz
Azul, San Luis' last second spot kick equalizer vs. Big Brother, and the Chivas Toluca goalfest to
name a few.

Rio Ferdinand is the latest United player to answer the question ´And how do you think you will
cope next season without Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez?´
Like all the players before him, Rio reckons we will be just fine, as we always are after
selling good players.
"When you lose any players, your team plays differently no matter who you lose," said
Ferdinand.

Cruzeiro were favourites to win the Copa Libertores final, having held Estudiantes to a 0-0 first

The 50th edition of Copa Libertadores had its final match tonight at the Mineirao, in Belo
Horizonte, Brazil. After the nil draw in Argentina, it seemed Cruzeiro, the home team, was ready to
lift the third title in the competition, the first since 1997.
However, a "Mineirazzo" took place and one more time Brazilian clubs failed at home.

The final will, for only the eighth time in history, be contested by a Brazilian and an
Argentinian side. Cruzeiro take on Estudiantes in the two legged final, hoping to put some gloss on
what has been a slightly disappointing competition. Who will light up the final - Kleber or Veron?
Which South American giant will triumph?

The knives are out for Maradona. What was a whisper campaign is now leading to high anxiety and
open calls. Where is Bilardo? Where is Pekerman? Where is Bianchi? There is serious doubt building
up in Albiceleste fans whether Argentina can qualify for the World Cup with Maradona at the
helm.
The inspirational quality of Maradona as player is crumbling before Maradona, the clueless
manager.

After having successfully answered the questions about whether he was better than Ronaldo or not
the next big challenge for Messi is to make sure that Argentina qualify for the World Cup.
If Argentina fail to beat Colombia on Saturday they risk missing out on the World Cup
altogether.
Maradona has made a few changes in the squad - Estudiantes captain Veron returns to the side to
replace Juan Roman Riquelme.
