And I'm not talking about Beckham's 2-year $15 million contract.
I'm talking about Omar Gonzalez. Last month Omar pulled out of the national team training camp
for a very exciting loan move to Nurnberg. His very first day there he suffered a season ending
injury at the hands well, feet of his USMNT teammate Timmy Chandler.
Fulham are on the verge of signing 19 year old Argentine Alfonso Penne from Italian club
Torino. Penne, known as "The Fonz", will be out of contract in the summer and is keen to test
himself in the Premier League.
Penne rose to prominence last year as a 18 year old at Torino, scoring 47 goals in 15 U16 games
for Il Granata as an over-aged player playing under a false passport.
It's here. Transfer deadline day. We'll be updating this post throughout the day with all the

QPR created the most buzz this transfer window completing the transfer of Nancy's highly rated
midfielder Samba Diakite for a reported £3.36m. They added Nedum Onuoha from City and Taye Taiwo
on loan from Milan to bolster the defense.
Here we are on the verge of our 4th round FA Cup tie with Aston Villa, and yet I find
myself still thinking about the substitution of Oxlade-Chamberlin in last weeks 2-1 loss to
Manchester United.
With the way Wenger was talking it makes me wonder if he is getting his apologies, or should I
say his press conference story ready should we lose today against Alex Mc Leish's Aston Villa.
Welp, it's done.
Baguettes & Brioche
After months of exile, Alex is once again on the verge of relevance. His protracted transfer
saga has come to a close, with PSG concluding a deal to acquire the defender for 4 million quid.
After turning down the chance to ply his trade at QPR, that massive club, he elected to reunite
with former gaffer Carlo Ancelotti and take his talents to the Champs Elysses.
Giovani Dos Santos is no stranger to moving during the winter transfer window, but instead of
what has happened in past years, he is on the verge of leaving club purgatory for good.
Forever glued to the bench at Tottenham, the 22-year-old Mexican star is on the verge of a full
transfer to Spanish club Villarreal, according to reports from Europe.
Gareth Barry has acknowledged that Liverpool fans remain among the most influential supporters
in English football but the Manchester City playmaker has also criticized them for verbally abusing
him a few years ago.
Barry was touted as a replacement for Xabi Alonso and while the England international was even
on the verge of signing for Rafa Benitez, he moved away from the protracted transfer proposition
due to the impatience of Reds faithful.
The Hard Work Starts NowThe Red Bulls preseason got underway in earnest today at Montclair
State University, as an expanded group of players reported to camp, including a massive 12-13
trialists. The size of the group is hardly surprising, considering the number of reserve and fringe
players the club has shed since November.
Almost two years ago, Paraguayan forward Salvador Cabañas was months away from being a starting
striker in the World Cup until he was left in a fight for his life after being the victim of a
shooting at a Mexican bar.
Now he's on the verge of a stunning comeback to professional soccer.

Under-pressure Liverpool striker Andy Carroll admits that the return of skipper Steven Gerrard
has boosted his hopes of performing more consistently for the Reds.
Carroll, who was signed for over £35 million from Newcastle United last January, has scored
only four times in 25 appearances for the Merseyside outfit, leading to continuous criticism from
both within and outside the club.

As you may or may not know, 128-year old Blue Square Premier side Darlington FC have had to sack
their management team and playing staff and are teetering on the verge of extinction after going
into administration for the third time in less than a decade largely thanks to the utterly
ridiculous £20-million, 25,000-seater 'Darlington Arena' stadium that former chairman and
tax-dodger George Reynolds paid through the nose for a few years previous.

Liverpool is on the verge of signing a new striker, according to legendary goalkeeper Bruce
Grobbelaar.
Liverpool struggled to hit the net again this weekend with a 0-0 draw at home to Stoke and have
scored just eight goals in their last nine Premier League games. With Luis Suarez suspended for
eight games, strikers Dirk Kuyt and Andy Carroll have come under pressure to perform but Carroll
has only scored twice this season, while Kuyt has yet to break his drought.

Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson is reportedly on the verge of a move to Everton after
undergoing a medical at Goodison Park on Thursday night.
The Irish midfielder has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford and was fined a week's
wages last month after turning up for training worse for wear after a night out with team mates
Jonny Evans and Wayne Rooney.
PSG is splashing some serious cash this transfer window. They are on the verge of signing
Alexandre Pato for €35 million from Milan for a three year deal. Leonardo is
also milking his popularity with Brazilian players to bring Kaka on board and is
offering €25 million for the services of the Real midfielder.
A three-year deal Joao?"El MosQuito" will be buzzing around BMO Field for the
foreseeable future as Toronto FC announced today that Joao Plata has signed a multi-year deal with
the club. The dynamic yet diminutive Ecuadorian was often the only bright spark in a miserable
first half of 2011 and his re-signing was considered as an off-season must in most supporters'
eyes.
Freddy Adu spoke to Arch Bell of ESPN.com and, in a column published Monday, expressed an
interest in returning to Europe immediately.
The money quote from Adu is here: "It would be an amazing opportunity to be able to stay here at
Rayo [Vallecano]."
"I definitely miss playing in Europe," Adu continued, "I always said that when I went back to
MLS, I wanted stability, and that I wouldn't go back until I could play for a top-five league.
The latest from the Carlos Tevez transfer saga reveals that the striker has reached an agreement
with Italian giants AC Milan. According to Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani, an agreement
between Tevez, City and Milan has already been reached.
Of course this only creates more controversy as Milan's city rivals Inter are also thought to be
still interested in Tevez despite Milan's arrangement.

Despite Cristiano Ronaldo's impressive form which is seeing him lead the top scorer's list in
the Spanish La Liga, it is looking very likely that Messi will win the FIFA Ballon d'Or for a 3rd
consecutive year when the gala takes places on Monday.
Ronaldo's muted celebrations against Granada yesterday are fueling a lot of rumours that the
Portuguese star could be on the verge of a break down especially with the constant comparisons to
Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

The New York Red Bulls have had an awfully quiet offseason, which has been used more to deflect
rumors and links to star players as opposed to making improvements to a team that vastly
underachieved by its own expectations in 2011.
Newcastle striker Demba Ba will not be replaced this is according to coach Alan Pardew. The
Senegalese striker is set to join his national team for the month long Africa Cup Of Nations
tournament that is scheduled to start on the 21st of this month.
Ba has been in scintillating form for the Magpies this season scoring 14 times in the
league.
Frank Lampard will grab the headlines. Fernando Torres deserves to share in the spotlight. The
maligned striker capped an excellent shift with one more killer pass, this time to Ashley Cole who
went on to set up Super Frank for a trademark finish with only minutes to play. I don't want to
wager on just how big this result could prove to be, but I reckon pretty damn in the grand
scheme.
Gerard Houllier has managed some exceptional players during his career but in a recent interview,
Liverpool's treble-winning boss reserved special praise for former Man United player David
Beckham.Speaking to France Football, Houllier had nothing but good things to say about Beckham, who
could be on the verge of a move to Paris St.
Why is the boss only interested in you and not me?
The Arsenal world has gone mad for Thierry Henry. No, it's not 2007. You don't have to put on
your reading glasses, you read it correctly the first time. Arsene Wenger released this statement
and debate rages on everywhere about it. When it comes to this man, the judgement can be
clouded.

The American forward has signed with Mexican club Puebla, where he will team with DaMarcus
Beasley and play under former Chicago Fire and New York Red Bulls coach Juan Carlos Osorio.

Later today, NCAA Tournament finalists UNC-Charlotte and North Carolina wil play for the

to discuss this weekend's slate of matches, as well as college soccer at large.
Liverpool continue to display green shoots of progress under Kenny Dalglish, and 9 months into the
Scot's second coming Anfield his side look capable re-joining European football's elite for the
first time since the 2009/10 season.
But frustratingly for the Anfield faithful, Liverpool have demonstrated something of a soft
underbelly this season, dropping points against Swansea, Norwich and most recently Fulham as the
lost ground to Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal in the race for a precious Champions League spot.
On Sunday night Toby and I took in Sutton United v Notts County in the FA Cup second round
proper (a trip to Doncaster was on offer to the winners).
No giant killing here. County eventually sauntered to a routine victory, but there were alarms
along the way, notably when Sutton were awarded then missed a penalty on the verge of half-time
