Since we last spoke, I've completed a degree, got married and switched continents.
The Season ticket has been swapped for 10am kick-offs at Lucky Bar DC. Thankfully, some of the best
Gooners in the world reside over here in the States.
Forgive me for not posting.
But, really, the reason my posting slowed up over the last few years is that, for at least the last
two seasons, I found it difficult to say anything original about Arsenal.
Arsenal 2-1 Borussia Dortmund
A fine win against a very decent side means that our last group game (Matchday 6 aah, the romance
of the cup) will be all stations to Dead Rubbersville.
In fact, it will be a reprise of 2009 when an Arsenal side already assured of top spot sent out
the kids and lost 1-0 in Olympiakos.
That was a very strange few days. We spend years carefully, slowly building squads, with obscure
players brought in from far and wide, punctuated with highly profitable sales. This modus operandi
became familiar to all of us. But in this transfer window, that has all been ripped up, culminating
in an insane final evening yesterday.
Manchester United 8-2 Arsenal
‘Will you quit?', Wenger was asked following Arsenal's worst league defeat since 1896. That
Wenger's future is now being routinely debated and he is being asked to his face tells you all you
need to know about the situation at the club.
Ten days into the season, and the 'Arsenal in crisis' stories have rarely been more prevalent.
The opening exchanges of a new campaign have been, at best, fraught, and at worst, downright
embarrassing.
Regular readers will know that I'm one of the most optimistic people out there (for example, I'd
suggest that now is an excellent time to place a bet on us finishing in the top four you'll get
good odds), but even I have to admit that the situation has progressed into the realms of the
comical.

I think a reality check is needed and between us we should try to fathom out what is going wrong
at the club. Figures don't lie and we have won just 2 of our last 13 PL games, which would have
been inconceivable in February. Fabregas leaving is going to be a huge miss, and though not
replaceable like for like we have had the best part of this year knowing he would leave to find
another player as a world-class playmaker.
As the Premier League opening games draw nearer there certainly seems to be some movement in the
Arsenal transfer market. The arrival of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain surprised nobody but it seems that
Arsene Wenger will quickly recoup his expenditure when Samir Nasri joins Manchester City. For a
manager that hates paying over the odds for great [.
It is hard to imagine that in seven days time the first game of the new season will have taken
place. There is a remarkably strange feeling about at the moment.
Possibly that feeling is down to Arsenal looking no better than at the tail end of last season
and there being only minute changes in the playing staff.
A lot of excellent football, some dodgy refereeing decisions going against Arsenal, and absolute
chaos as the back – nothing seems to have changed.
Another stupid goal conceded towards the end means that this Cup will linger in Gooner memories
as one that has further reinforced, if that were possible, the need for significant defensive
improvement if the Gunners want to challenge for the top honours this season.
Back at the Home of Football to the traditional start of footballing season entertainment known
as the Emirates Cup.
This is normally a fun filled affair where we take on a couple of fair to middling teams put
some skilful moves together introduce a few youngsters and send the punters home happy.
Johan Djourou's defensive error gifted Pablo Mouche the equaliser as Boca Juniors fought back
from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Emirates Cup.
The hosts looked comfortable after Robin Van Persie opened the scoring on 29 minutes before
half-time substitute Aaron Ramseydoubled their advantage with his first touch two minutes after
the break.
Arsene Wenger must be on the look out for a striker this summer.
We know van Persie can score goals, but we are also aware that he is unlikely to go through the
season without a major injury keeping him out of action for 3 months. So long as RvP is fit he
will bang in goals for fun, but with an international break coming early September, this is the
call sign for an injury whilst playing for Holland.
Yesterday, I made my predictions for the summer in terms of who might be leaving. Today I'll
focus on what should (in theory) be happier thoughts players coming in. I'll take this up in three
parts. First, I'll discuss what the team looks like right now. Second, I'll give my commentary on
what the club should be doing.
Carlos Vela not allowed to leave Arsenal. Why? by Peter Rooke The young Mexican Carlos Vela (maybe
not so young nowadays) has spent many years at Arsenal under Arsene Wenger, and he has has played
many games in the Carling Cup and FA Cup games, but despite some absolutely brilliant performances,
Wenger has totally refused [.
Arsenal's firesale is not going well so far by Peter Rooke There are three (supposedly) definite
departures from the Emirates this summer. Both Nicklas Bendtner and Denilson have declared their
intention to find new clubs, while Gael Clichy is refusing to sign a contract extension, but the
"offers" are not exactly pouring in for Wenger's [.
Arsenal fans are gearing themselves for an influx of players, we are waiting with baited
breath. We are also aware that the exodus from the Emirates will be a big one this summer.
Players who have not made the grade, others who have not had the opportunity and some who think
the grass is greener on the other side of the tracks.
What a goldfish I am. Despite an end of season that spent most of its time reeling from one
calamity to another, I appear to be hankering for the new one already. When will I ever learn?
To be fair though, some bits and bobs need to happen before I can get genuinely giddy. Namely a
scythe cutting through the chaff of the squad, coupled with the club storing the wheat in a silo
where nobody can steal it.
The young Mexican striker Carlos Vela has spent the second half of the season out on loan at West
Brom, and despite a few successes as an impact sub, he has only made three starts for the Baggies.
The West Brom first-team coach Michael Appleton said yesterday: "We don't know what kind of
transfer fee [.

goles a 2.
Last but not the least - Alex Song
Who is the most important player at Arsenal FC?
Its not the luckless but always loyal Almunia.
Its not the remarkably consistent Bacary Sagna.
Its not the El Capitan.
Its not the Verminator.
Its not K-OS.
Its not our inhouse metalhead TR7.

Who Won:
Chelsea: Blues fans must be delighted. Okay, there's an element of risk in paying 50m for a striker
who's done little in the past year, but despite buying yachts, art and world cups, Roman still
seems interested in Chelsea.
Liverpool: Replacing an in form Torres would be almost impossible, but he hasn't been happy for
months and they got 50m for him.
Carlos Vela is a player who divides opinion. He has undoubted quality but just doesn't seem to
take his chances when he is in the first team. His party-boy lifestyle probably has something to do
with it, he is a young lad who wants to have fun but at the moment it looks like it is affecting
his [..

The rumour-mill may keep turning and turning but the Arsenal FC Chequebook is staying firmly under
lock and key by the look of it. The only real Arsenal transfer news is about players leaving on
loan, though The Goon Blog ran a story about Eden Hazard provisionally agreeing terms to join the
club, with just [.

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been talking frankly about the transfer window, and has
admitted that if Thomas Vermaelen does not react well to his latest treatment then the Gunners may
be forced to buy another centre-back to cover the Belgian's absence. Wenger admitted: "Yes, should
Thomas Vermaelen not come back quickly that is an [.
