As we'd already seen with the proposed sale of Michael Dawson to QPR, it seems that few players
are safe from AVB's clearout of Harry's men but just who will escape the deadline day cull?
Since the transfer window re-opened in June, the club has waved goodbye to Vedran Corluka,
Steven Pienaar, Niko Kranjcar and Sebastien Bassong.
The winter transfer window across Europe closed on Tuesday, and a number of teams -- not the usual
big-spenders -- that were scrambling to fill vacancies and address needs for the second half of
their respective seasons were able to add some valuable pieces to the puzzle.
Queens Park Rangers fall into that category, adding firepower in the form of former Lazio
striker Djibril Cisse and Fulham forward Bobby Zamora.

Even though Tottenham Hotspur lost their 2012/13 opener at St. James Park against Newcastle
United but they landed on the 4th spot last season, just a single point behind their London rivals,
Arsenal. Chelsea, then, stole their Champions League spot and the Spurs ended up with a Europa
League group stage spot.

So the day that excites nearly all football fans the most has finally arrived as we kick off our
campaign at the team that most said over achieved last season by finishing 5th level on points with
us.
Prior to AVB's official arrival, part of the deadwood clearing procedure had already begun with
the departures of Croatians Vedran Corluka and Niko Kranjcar. Since then however, transfer activity
through the out door has come to a halt, so how much more pruning is there to be done?
Needless to say, when a new manager arrives there is a chance of a clean slate for everyone
involved and David Bentley has come out to claim that he has been offered one.
The new Spurs manager will need to look closely at the current squad and consider who has a
future at the club. To an extent, his job has been started for him with Niko Kranjcar and Vedran
Corluka leaving the club but there may be some fans' favourites under particular threat.
The Evening Standard claims that West Ham are monitoring the situation closely with a view to
making a move for William Gallas.
One transfer story that seems to have gone through – albeit that it has yet to be confirmed by
the club is the departure of Vedran Corluka to Lokomotiv Moscow. The versatile defender who joined
us from Manchester City has however been confirmed as a new signing by the Russians for an
undisclosed fee.
After the QPR game Harry insisted that he let the likes of Corluka, Pienaar and Bassong go out
on loan simply because they wanted to and denied that the decision has had any influence on the
club's recent run of results.
Watching in Germany however, Vedran Corluka has suggested that lack of squad rotation has been
at the core of Spurs' problems in recent weeks.
The Luka Modric affair last summer highlighted the difference in wage structures between Spurs
and some of our Premiership rivals and while the club has gone on to show the Croatian that he is
better off from a playing point of view where he is, that structure may still need to be
addressed.
Many of Spurs' fringe players have been linked with a move away from the club and generally
speaking, rumours about possible departures for the likes of Vedran Corluka and Steven Pienaar have
been met with a clear ‘no' from Harry Redknapp.
That hasn't been the case with Gio Dos Santos however and after the manager is believed to have
vetoed a last minute move in the summer, it now seems that he is finally prepared to let the
Mexican go.
There's obviously no transfer news as yet from White Hart Lane but surprisingly, the rumour mill
is also a little quiet after the Christmas break.
As far as any potential incomings are concerned, we looked at the possibility of either
Christopher Samba or James Tomkins at the back while our search for a striker could see Harry
secure the services of Lille's Moussa Sow.
'Tis been a fine season so far, with a new and rather rich kid on the block in the opulent form
of Manchester City shaking things up at the top, a whole host of freakish results (see United's 8-2
win over Arsenal, City's 6-1 win over United etc), a Tottenham finally looking ready to make a
serious title challenge and some impressive performances from the promoted sides.
There were some good performances from Spurs players on international duty right across the
globe this weekend and in particular, goals from Gareth Bale and Vedran Corluka stood out.
Charlie has made a quick return from injury and will provide much needed defensive cover at the
Lane and he underlined his versatility by slotting in at left back before heading home his
country's third goal in their 3-0 win over Turkey.
Tottenham Hotspur right-back Vedran Corluka has dismissed suggestions that vengeance for
Croatia's defeat in the Euro 2008 quarterfinal will be the primary motivation as Slaven Bilic
prepares to lead his men in the Euro 2012 qualification playoffs against Turkey.
Croatia qualified for that tournament in style almost four years ago, winning an unforgettable
encounter at Wembley to prevent England from joining them in Austria and Switzerland.
Italy Starters: Buffon; Bonucci, De Rossi, Chiellini; Maggio, Marchisio, Pirlo, T Motta,
G'herini; Cassano, Balotelli
Croatia (4-4-2): Stipe Pletikosa; Ivan Strinic, Gordon Schildenfeld, Vedran Corluka, Darijo
Srna; Ivan Perisic, Luka Modric, Ognjen Vukojevic, Ivan Rakitic; Jelavic, Mario Mandzukic.
Insurance commercials aren't generally our first port of call when we're looking for something
to lech over.
The Croatian NT and Generali Insurance sought to rectify this terrible injustice for us
recently, by shoving the likes of Vedran Corluka and Ivan Rakitic in front of a camera and forcing
them to look puurty for an upcoming campaign.
The soundtrack to Harry Redknapp's press conference after the QPR game at the weekend was one of
defensive comments in relation to the squad. Harry was adamant that he had done the right thing in
letting the likes of Bassong, Corluka and Pienaar go out on loan despite the lack of cover.
Redknapp also went on to suggest that he has a lack of alternatives at the club but is that
strictly the case?
We've gone past the mid-way point in this winter's transfer window and as yet there's little
sign of movement into or out of White Hart Lane. It's looking like it could be a repeat of last
year's quiet January and for now, rumours linking two of Tottenham's fringe squad have been
denied.
Vedran Corluka has hardly featured for the first team all season yet when asked if the Croatian
would be sold in this window, Harry Redknapp answered with an emphatic ‘no'.
Vedran Corluka's requests for first team football had spread around the teamRight, call off all the
bets. The season's as good as over and the title is ours. As if any further proof were needed that
this year's Spurs are made of different, more robust stuff than previous incarnations, this weekend
provided further evidence that we are indeed, as Herman's Hermits said, into something good.
It's been widely anticipated that there would be some departures from White Hart Lane in the
January transfer window but the name of Vedran Corluka hasn't always appeared on the lists.
Charlie had lost his place to Kyle Walker at the start of the season but injuries had also
restricted his appearances.
Tottenham have more immediate concerns than the Europa League. Their manager Harry Redknapp's
health, usurping Arsenal and Chelsea as the top team in London and qualifying for next season's
Champions League. Why, though, is the Europa League so far down their list of priorities?
Having stumbled to a victory against Rubin Kazan at White Hart Lane, despite resting the
majority of their first team players and consequently playing poorly, Tottenham decided to rest
even more players for the away fixture against Rubin Kazan.
This could be an eventful day. And then again, no- as Elton John would say. I'm not sure what
the implications will be of having a whole round of Premier League fixtures on the same evening as
the transfer deadline, but to me it sounds a spot iffy. For managers looking to get shot of a bit
of dead wood, I suppose, it's probably ideal.
Yesterday we looked at the possibility of new arrivals at White Hart Lane and the general
consensus was that we were due for a quiet day. Later in the evening, reports suggested that Vedran
Corluka was a target for Bayer Leverkusen and they seem to be gaining momentum this morning.
At the start of the month, Harry said that the Croatian would definitely not be leaving but
after omitting him from the cup games where much of the fringe side appear, it may well be that
Charlie is on his way.
Croatia, or formerly known as Yugoslavia, have been quite a force in the history of the World Cup
and the European Cup respectively. Although they have never quite made it to a final, they still
remain to be a team of which other national sides fear. In the qualification group stages Croatia
– nicknamed The Blazers – finished 2nd in Group F narrowly missing out on 1st position by a
mere 2 points.
After the first leg of the Euro 2012 play-offs, there were a wide variety of results to compare
and analyze before the second leg on Tuesday. Some ties already look finished, while some are still
very much alive.
We take a look at one thing we learned from each match.
Croatia remain world class
A 3-0 demolition of Turkey reaffirms that despite missing out on the World Cup, Croatia are
still a team with enough quality and talent to win the European Championships.
While Ireland were thrashing Estonia in Talinn on Friday night, six other teams were battling it
out for a place in Poland Ukraine next summer.
Slaven Bilic's Croatian side are the closest to booking their place in the finals, after
securing an impressive 3-0 win away in Turkey, courtesy of goals from  Ivica Olic, Mario Mandzukic
and Tottenham's Vedran Corluka.

There have been no further updates on Rafael van der Vaart's injury problem since last Friday
when Joe Jordan stated that the player was 75% fit at the time.
It may be safe to assume therefore that VDV has continued his recover and is in line to take his
usual place in the starting XI tonight.
