Vasco Wins the Second Division

See The Cup 14 November @ 03:36 AM EST

After granting a spot in next year's first division of Brazilian football, Vasco da Gama finished the combo and took home the dubious title of champion of the second division. Wearing a commemorative jersey (not very tasteful, if I may say), the club cameback to beat America-RN at a packed Maracana.

Aloisio vs El Chicle

Auto Golazo 27 August @ 07:41 AM EST
Click to continue reading...

Dirty Tackle 27 August @ 12:35 AM EST

Aloisio, a striker for Brazilian second division club Vasco da Gama, was making his debut as a starter on Tuesday when he nearly died as a result of chewing gum while playing. Seriously. And no, the Brazilian second division isn't a part of the Special Olympics.

Aloisio went up to challenge for a high ball, but instead butted heads with the opposing player in front of him while the ball went over both of them.

2009 Copa Libertadores Final: Will Cruzeiro steal one over Estudiantes?

Soccerblog 08 July @ 08:32 PM EST

Its an Argentina vs Brazil final. What more can you do to stir passion?

However as Tim Vickery points out, the Copa Libertadores is looked down by many in Brazil even as the clubs fight for the final four spots in the national championships because similar to the European Championships, entry into the Copa yields big financial payoffs and a potential launching pad for players interested in an international career.
