FC Barcelona secured the top spot of Group H in Champions League with a high tempo thrilling 3-2
victory against AC Milan. An own goal from Van Bommel, a penalty from Messi and another beautiful
goal from xavi completed Barca's socreline, whereas Ibrahimovic and Boateng scored for AC
Milan.
Ah, here's a photo you don't see everyday. A giggling Ibrahim Afellay (make
what you want out of it) next to his teammates Dirk Kuyt, van Bommel and
coach Bert van Marwijk at their friendly match against Uruguay in June.
Interestingly, van Marwijk has given an interview admitting that the Oranje did find it
hard to get over their World Cup finale loss against Spain last year, but are officially back in
business!

For the first time since 2004, the Scudetto is a rossoneri trophy. And let me say as an Inter
Milan supporter it is fully deserved.
As I told you many times here on AFR, to win Serie A you do not always have to be at your best
in the biggest matches, but simply whenever it becomes vital to perform.
In fantastic news for Viola fans today, it looks as if Stefan Jovetic is edging ever closer to
his return. The player has flown to Germany to undergo a series of tests to determine if he'll be
able to return for the final two matches of the season. Jovetic has been out for about nine months
now, after suffering a serious knee injury during the summer before the season began.
Tuttomercato had a short, interesting article up this morning about Arjen Robben and what seems
to be a possible/inevitable (depending on how you read it) move to the league leaders. Below is the
full translation, which begs the questions: is such a move even likely, and if so, would he be a
good fit at a team like Milan?
Just some quick notes from my perspective at the half line. Gorgeous day for a game there.
- We can put to bed the O'Brian White question for a while - At this point even the
doubters have to admit that he's a target forward that's worth starting. He has a different game
than Jaqua but he wins as many balls as anyone we've played in that position over the years.
Coaches are not on the pitch playing the game but they are a huge factor in the final result. A
soccer game is two forty-five minute halves and what adjustments are made at half-time can
determine the final outcome of the game.
Bagga Wilks of Futbolr writes in his blog of how the top managers in Europe influenced matches this
past weekend.
There's little to write about regarding the scudetto race of the Serie A now. A commanding 3-0
win by AC Milan over Inter has seemingly decided that this season we will have a new champion. The
scudetto is now for Milan to lose, and after the solid display the rossoneri put on for the San
Siro, they won't let this five point lead slip.
March ninth marks the next chapter in the Champions League career of Sweden captain Zlatan
Ibrahimovic. Up till now it's been a steady tale of loss and failure to get to the ever-elusive
Champions League Final. It isn't looking especially rosy this year either. Tottenham beat Milan at
the San Siro with 1-0, meaning that only a victory at White Hart Lane will carry AC Milan through
to the quarterfinals.
Football's such an easy game on paper. All you're doing is comparing two teams and deciding how
one team can take advantage of another's weaknesses. In the match preview for the Sunderland game I
stated we needed to play very narrow and encourage Steve Bruce's side to attack down the flanks due
to that not being their favoured approach.

Dopo Urby Emanuelson, 24enne ala sinistra prelevata dall'Ajax (campione d'europa con l'Under 21
dell'Olanda nel 2006), lo scatenato Milan di Allegri piazza un nuovo colpo e si assicura le
prestazioni di un altro "orange", più esperto e navigato del primo. E' ufficiale, infatti,
l'arrivo di Mark Van Bommel dal Bayern Monaco.

AC Milan have announced the signing of Mark van Bommel, a deal that will see the Dutch
dreadnought move to the San Siro 'with immediate effect' after Bayern Munich agreed to terminate
his dwindling contract.
At a mere 33-years-old, it is thought that Van Bommel will initially be inducted into Milan's
youth setup to mature for a couple of years, before finally being allowed to join up with senior
side on his 35th birthday.
