The above image is the rumored jersey that the United States team will be wearing in the 2010
World Cup. The red, white and blue shirt features a Nike logo and US soccer crest, but is it real
or not? We'll find out soon when Nike and the USSF officially unveils the jersey.
If this actually the shirt, what are your thoughts about it?

I'll be honest, I can't seem to get much done today because of this news about the TOA group
starting their own league. We knew this news would probably come down eventually in one form or
another but I honestly didn't expect it to consume me as much as it is.
If you aren't reading a couple sites like The Kartik Report or Inside Minnesota Soccer for news
on this matter then you are certainly missing out.

I am a pretentious soccer writer, and a lazy one at that, which means I like my football news
monumental and easily digestible.
In Europe, for example, things are easy; Big Four team cheats, post. Club has really stupid,
flamboyantly dressed owner, post. Accusations of bungs, massively indebted teams, bouts of hilarity
as Old Europe slouches toward American-style marketing techniques (crappyproduct.

With talks at a stand-still between the Team Owners Association and Nurock Soccer Holdings, new
owners of USL, the chances of a breakaway league led by numerous USL 1 clubs next year is looking
more and more likely. Vancouver and Montreal became the latest teams to reportedly sever ties with
USL this week, and are part of the group looking to start a new league.

With US qualification to the World Cup secure, the USSF has scheduled two interesting friendlies
for the international break in November. The US was relatively impressive in CONCACAF qualifying,
recording improbable wins at Port of Spain against Trinidad & Tobago as well as in San Pedro Sula
versus Honduras, and also knocking Costa Rica out of the World Cup with a great come from behind
result at RFK Stadium earlier this month.

Let me present a very simplistic formulation. Let's assume that in order for MLS to receive higher
television revenues, it must draw in more supporters. Let it also be resolved that, for those fans
to show up at MLS games and commit wholesale to the league, the quality of the on-pitch product
must get better.

The next few days promise to be big ones in US professional football. Major League Soccer has
proven this summer and into the fall to be the most compelling and competitive first division the
English speaking world. The MLS season comes down to the next few nights of football: every match
in the final weekend has an impact upon the title race, unlike the final weekends in most European
leagues.

Most of you probably at one time or another saw the reports yesterday that Don Garber and Major

Wow, what a game. For all the stick we've given him here, Conor Casey came up shockingly huge

get lucky after Stu Holden's handball.
More to come on this match later, but we're in the World Cup!

Big Story
There was something for pretty much everyone yesterday, an all-day footballing extravaganza that
began with Germany overcoming her many doubters by beating Hiddink's tactically astute Russia in
the Luzhniki Stadium, and ended with the United States overcoming a lethargic start and a
forty-seventh minute goal by beating Honduras 3-2 in front of a hostile crowd of forty thousand at
the Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano.
