Port-of-Spain for their final World Cup qualifier match for the 1990 World Cup in Italy. The
circumstances and consequences of that match have made it the most important match in US soccer
history, and marked the start of the modern era in American soccer.

When you think of a professional footballer's mode of transportation to a match, you probably
conjure images of pimped-out limousines with built-in hot tubs, strippers and maybe even a personal
pizza chef.
Well, for footballers in the United States (who aren't Davey Becks) it's not like that.

[I'm going to make this the featured post for the next five days, except for Saturday and next
Wednesday when the CONCACAF/CONMEBOL playoff is being played.] Next Thursday is the 20th
anniversary of that historic World Cup qualifier between Trinidad & Tobago and USA. In my opinion,
and I doubt I'm the only person who feels this way, it was the most important match in the history
of US men's soccer because of where they were at that time and where they went from that point.

Please chime in on this, as I'm sure there will be much debate. Ken Gude of the Huffington Post
says that 2009 is the year that soccer arrived in America. Not because of Pele or Beckham, but
because of mainstream media (read ESPN) upping the ante on soccer coverage. He also cites the
continued success of the sport at the youth level and, consequently, improved play on the field by
our Men's National Team.

As mentioned in a previous post, the group Soldier's Angels has a fund raiser known as Project
Valour-IT running through Veterans day. While all the donations go to the same cause the fund
raiser is being ran as a team competition. Even though the Marine corps is the smallest branch, the
Marine team currently leads the others branches (as expected) in fund raising.

no other way.Marines have served around the world defending their country. Every war, conflict,
"police-action" or simple show of force has had Marines leading the way.
