The United States played another dull and creatively challenged game against France last night,
losing 1-0 in a game in which the U.S. managed just two shots on goal. The loss it the fourth in
six games under new coach Jurgen Klinsmann with all four losses coming by the same 1-0 scoreline.
The honeymoon period is quickly coming to an end for Klinsmann with the United States suffering
from a severe offensive drought having scored just two goals in six games.

The United States is set to face its biggest test of the Klinsmann era with a visit to France on
Friday in an international friendly. This is just the third meeting between the two teams with
France winning the previous two games 6-0 and 3-0 in 1979.
France
France has already qualified for Euro 2012 so expect France coach
Laurent Blanc to give some younger players much needed experience.

Jurgen Klinsmann called 22 players for the United States upcoming friendly matches against Honduras
(Oct 8 in Miami) and Ecuador (Oct 11 at Red Bull Arena). A few changes were made to the squad
that was called up for the September matches, most notably Oguchi Onyewu working way back into the

The Major League Soccer playoff picture is slowly coming into focus as we head towards the
stretch run. The race for the final wild card spots will be a good one with the Red Bulls and
upstart Portland Timbers on the heels of DC United, Houston, and to some extent the defending
champion Colorado Rapids.

The Major League Soccer playoff picture is slowly coming into focus as we head towards the
stretch run. I thought it would be interesting to see how things would stack up using each team's
points per game, instead of total points. The idea is to get a clearer picture of a team's form
over the course of the season.
Jurgen Klinsmann's second game as the man in charge did not go exactly as expected. Playing on
home soil against an experimental Costa Rica squad the expectation for the United States was to
get a result Instead, the loss to Costa Rica, while not a disaster in any sense, did provide some
answers as we move forward with the Klinsmann era.

Jurgen Klinsmann has called 22 players into camp for the United States friendly game vs. Mexico
on August 10 in Philadelphia. Staying true to his word that the team would have a Latin influence
Jose Torres, Michael Edgar Orozco Fiscal, and Edgar Castillo were called into camp. DaMarcus
Beasley makes his return to national team as does Edson Buddle and Heath Pearce.
Sunil Gulati finally landed his man. It took nearly five years and multiple conversations before
Jurgen Klinsmann agreed to take the helm of US Soccer. What can we expect from the Klinsmann era?
To get a glimpse of what to expect all you need to do is look at what transpired in Germany after
Klinsmann took over the national team on July 26, 2004.
Klinsmann it is!
Optimism abounds for the United States men's soccer program with the announcement this week of
the hiring of Jürgen Klinsmann, a man who has been on U. S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati's radar
for five years. Make no mistake this is a huge shift in the way things will get done with the
program with the most notable being the coordination among all levels of U.
ussoccer.com is reporting that Bob Bradley has been relieved of his duties as coach of the US
Men's National Team.
"We want to thank Bob Bradley for his service and dedication to U.S. Soccer during the past five
years," said Gulati. "During his time as the head coach of our Men's National Team he led the team
to a number of accomplishments, but we felt now was the right time for us to make a change.
With the MLS All Star game set to kick off on Wednesday, July 27th at Red Bull Arena the league
has plenty of great events scheduled. Here is a run down of events leading up to the game;

Manchester United remained perfect in the World Football Challenge with a 3-1 come from behind
win over the Chicago Fire. United began the game with mostly their reserve squad leaving Wayne
Rooney, Ryan Giggs, and Nani on the bench. The result was a competitive first half that ended with
the Fire up 1-0 on a Cory Gibbs 13th minute goal.
Red Bulls Embarrassed in Colorado
Embarrassing may be an understatement. The team with the highest payroll in Major League Soccer
was steam rolled in Colorado last night losing to the Rapids 4-1. More excuses and another loss for
the Red Bulls who are heading in an alarming direction as a club.
With all of the 0-0 draws in Major League Soccer it was nice to see a seven goal thriller at
CenturyLink Field. Seattle came from a goal down to beat the Rapids 4-3 in front of 36,424 fans.
With the win, the Sounders are now unbeaten in their last none league games registering six wins
and three draws.

Player ratings for the United States 4-2 loss to Mexico.
(Scale is 1 to 10, with 1 being horrible and 10 being world class)
(Position) Player (Club) Rating
(GK) Tim Howard (Everton/BPL): 4
Had his worst game of the tournament. The United States need a big save from Howard and did not get
one.
Thoughts on the United States 4-2 loss to Mexico;
- Cherundolo's early injury hurt the United States much more than anything else in the game. Bob
Bradley had just two options to replace Dolo, Bornstein or Spector. Bornstein as it turns out was
the wrong decision for so many reasons however lets not forget Spector is not exactly a track
star.
Few thoughts on the first half;
- Bob Bradley did it again. No one expected Freddy Adu to start in the final and no one expected
to see Donovan up top as a lone striker.
- Mexico looked the more dangerous side, and with all of their weapons it was only a matter of
time before they scored.
The 2011 Gold Cup Final everyone was expecting has arrived. At stake is not just CONCACAF
bragging rights, but a berth in the 2013 Confederations Cup, a crucial tune-up tournament for the
2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The Road to the Final
It has not been an easy road for the United States or Mexico, with both teams having difficult
games on the way to Pasadena.
Player ratings for the United States 1-0 win over Panama.
(Scale is 1 to 10, with 1 being horrible and 10 being world class)
(Position) Player (Club) Rating
(GK) Tim Howard (Everton/BPL): 7
Steady as usual. Made a great fingertip save on a rising shot from Armando Cooper in the 70th
minute that preserved the score line for the United States.
Thoughts on the United States 1-0 win over Panama;
- Freddy Adu has grown up. He played with confidence, did not try and do more than he is capable,
and opened up the game for the United States. His vision to see Donovan and hit him in space is why
he was labeled as special.
- Bob Bradley once again made the changes that carried the United States to the win.
Few thoughts on the first half;
- The USA are getting possession in a deep position in midfield so their transition into the
attacking third is much slower than against Jamaica. Credit to Panama for making the adjustments
necessary to limit space high in the midfield.
- The United States is playing a much more physical game, matching the physical intensity of
Panama.
The United States gets a chance to avenge its most shocking loss in the history of the Gold Cup
tonight when it takes on Panama at Reliant Stadium in Houston.
Just eleven days removed from the 2-1 defeat the United States are a completely different team,
in terms of attitude and tactics. Bob Bradley made excellent adjustments to his squad for the game
against Jamaica on Sunday, switching to a 4-2-3-1 formation and inserting both Alejandro Bedoya and
Sasha Kljestan in the midfield.
PORTLAND, Ore. - It was shaping up to be quite the night for Portland Timbers defender Kevin
Goldthwaite.
He had scored the go-ahead goal Sunday against the first-place New York Red Bulls - his former
team, which cut him last season - and his new club was about to come away with its first victory
since May 21 to the delight of a delirious crowd at JELD-Wen Field.
Player ratings for the United States 2-0 win over Jamaica.
(Scale is 1 to 10, with 1 being horrible and 10 being world class)
(GK) Tim Howard: 6.5
Made a great early save that kept the score line even, if not, who knows what the outcome would
have been. After that, was pretty lonely with not much to do.
Few quick thoughts on United States 2-0 victory over Jamaica;
- Credit to Bob Bradley for making the difficult and as it turned out correct decisions. Sitting
Donovan due to his early morning return from his sisters wedding was the correct call and a gutsy
one by Bradley. In addition, trotting out a 4-3-2-1 allowed the United States to control the
midfield by spreading out the Reggae Boyz, which also opened up a ton of space.
