Maurice Edu off to Glasgow Rangers

7
As reported in an article by the New York Times, it appears that Maurice Edu from Toronto F.C. and also recently on the U.S. Olympic team, is going to be transferred to Glasgow Rangers, possibly to replace Carlos Cueller who recently was sold to Aston Villa. Even I have to admit that this is a great move for Edu as Rangers are a very big club within the Scottish Premier League and even in the context of Europe (despite their recent setback of getting knocked out of the Champions League). U.S. Olympic Team out of the tournament

9
Here is a link to a really good analysis by Fox Sports' Jaime Trecker of the U.S. Olympic team's performance after they lost to Nigeria and are out of the tournament. It really was an overall disappointing performance by the team. They should be looking to achieve better results at this point and I agree that its time for Peter Nowak to move on. US Stumbles In Olympics

3
So we didn't make it in the Olympics. It's almost like we hit the peak of the mountain right when we got to China. We won the first match, drew the second match (which felt like a loss) and then fell today in the final match of the group phase. It was tough to watch really, [...] Click to continue reading...

U.S - Holland Olympic draw

9
Grant Wahl from Sports Illustrated wrote an excellent analysis of the U.S. - Holland game in this article. I have to say though that I still can't believe that GERALD SIBON of all people is the Dutch player to beat that U.S. team. This is the same Gerald Sibon who has bounced around Europe playing for Sheffield Wednesday, Nurenburg, and various teams in the Dutch Eredivise. Click to continue reading...

On the road again

1
As luck would have it, I'll be in Ocean City for the next week, missing the next three games, including what I believe to be the most important match United has played since November. It doesn't look like I'll have much for internet access, but I will post some thoughts once I return. In the meantime, please feel free to post your own TS/Call/Rail suggestions for each match in the comments section. Click to continue reading...

Dutch Coach Insults US Olympic Team

9
Dutch Coach Foppe De Haan has insulted the US Olympic team today.  He said  "Nigeria is confident on the ball, They have two very good strikers. The Americans are more of a team on the same level. They don't have anybody extremely good." "They're totally different than Nigeria, in my opinion." The remark pretty much says that there [. Click to continue reading...

U.S. gets unexpected help in their next Olympic game

For those who are following the progress of the U.S Olympic team, they have been handed a major advantage in their next game against Holland as both Roy Makaay and Evander Sno, 2 of Holland's more seasoned players won't be able to play against the U.S. You can read more about this on the Sports Illustrated article. Hamburg: Renewed Interest In Bradley

19
Now that Rafael van der Vaart has been sold to Real Madrid, Hamburger SV is shopping for an attacking player to fill the gap. Both the Hamburg press and Kicker report that the two main candidates are Spartak Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko and Heerenveen's attacking midfielder Michael Bradley (currently in China playing for the US Olympic team). What will the US’ Lineup be VS. Japan?

3
Today is a slow day for soccer news, so I'm bringing you some opinion and food for thought.  With the US men starting their Olympic push on thursday, all eyes are on Peter Nowak and what lineup he will use.  Nowak has arguably the strongest set of players ever on a US Olympic team, so [...] Click to continue reading...

The rumors were true. Brian McBride is going to join the Chicago Fire. Toronto FC had the right to McBride, but McBride made it known that he wanted to play near his hometown which is right near Chicago. The Fire sent forward Chad Barrett to TFC along with future considerations in order to get McBride.

Summertime Fun: RSL 2 - Toronto FC 1

Rice-Eccles Stadium was left pleased, but hungry for more after last night's game. Heading into a team record 18 day layoff, fighting an impending charge by Houston and Los Angeles who remained a mere point behind in the standings, and a 10 game home unbeaten streak on the line, the US Olympic Team [. Sangre americana preview: Torres

0
Jose Francisco Torres passed on the US Olympic team so he could play more for Pachuca. On Saturday, we'll learn if that was a good decision.

Torres was in a preseason battle with plenty of other talented players for a starting spot in Pachuca's loaded midfield, and while he doesn't bring years of experience to the table, he has plenty of other qualities that make him appealing. Click to continue reading...

Dax McCarty replaces Nathan Sturgis on Olympic Roster

1
Dax McCarty who was a key member of the US's qualification for the Olympics will replace the injured Nathan Sturgis on the US Olympic team.  McCarty is a central midfielder and it is an interesting move to add him to the squad.  Without Sturgis, the US only has four defenders on the roster, five if [. Olympic Soccer - couple of links

0
The first link is to a nice story in the New York Times about Robbie Rogers from the Columbus Crew being named to the U.S. Olympic Team. Apparently, he didn't expect to be named, but has been doing so well this season and coach Peter Nowak couldn't ignore him.

The second link is to an article from Sports Illustrated, which contains the national team from Holland that the U. Click to continue reading...

Olympics Bound...

Not too long ago the US Olympic team was made up of exclusively college players. 1996 was the first year of MLS and MLS players did make that team. Since 1996 the Olympics have been a goal of American MLS based players looking to move up to the first team if they haven't already made a spot for themselves. Click to continue reading...
