Know Your Opponent: Barbados Edition

2
This Sunday, the U.S. kicks off qualifying for the 2010 World Cup by hosting Barbados at the Cathedral of American Soccer, the HDC. But what do we really know about Barbados? I, for one, don't know anything really. Barbados is an island nation of the Pacific. It's name is an old Portugese phrase for "Bearded Ones", [. Click to continue reading...

Donovan Gets 100th Cap

0
After missing two high profile friendlies with a pulled groin (insert penis joke here, if you like), Landon Donovan took the field for the U.S. MNT on Sunday for the 100th time. It is a great accomplishment, and one LD, who is often villified both at home and definitely abroad, should be celebrated for. Click to continue reading...

USA v. Argentina Wrap-Up

4
Well, just like after last week's loss to Spain, I decided to wait some 48-72 odd hours before memorializing my feelings about the U.S. soccer team's performance. While I am not quite as steamed as last week, I have to say I am still pretty darn disappointed. Why? Well, after signs of improvement last year, in the last three weeks the U. U.S. Claims “Moral Victory” Over Spain (Sigh…)

23
You know what I absolutely despise? Propaganda. The word itself is defined as "a concerted set of messages aimed at influencing the opinions or behaviors of large numbers of people." But the term has garnered a negative connotation over the years making its true meaning to me something more like "lying and using misinformation in order to trick the [. USA v. Spain: My Starting XI

8
As usual, I will prepare for today's MNT game by second-guessing Bob Bradley's decisions. As usual though, since I don't have Bradley's roster card, I will be using Ives Galarcep's predictions, which are usually quite accurate. Here's who Ives thinks Bradley will employ vs. the #4 team in the world: Johnson - Beasley Adu Dempsey -Bradley Mastroeni Pearce -Bocanegra Onyewu Cherundolo Howard - I have got to say, that [. Concacaf President Warner wants England to host 2018 World Cup and USA to get 2022

2
Concacaf President and Fifa Vice-President Jack Warner hopes to convince the USA to abandon their bid for the 2018 finals in order to clear the way for England.

"My message to the USA - and they don't have to listen - is to try to make a deal for 2022 and I'm quite sure that would have universal support. Click to continue reading...

Of Groins & Groans: U.S. vs. England Wrap Up

0
I've waited forty-eight hours to write about the U.S. MNT's failure against England. I've held back because I was afraid I would write something I would later regret if I spewed the vitriol I felt immediately after the game ended. Well, it's been two days and I am still feeling a frenzy of disdain for our performance. Click to continue reading...

US disgraced by England - Players grades

21
US 0-2 England

Yes, it was only a friendly but it still stings. What the US men showed yesterday at Wembley was one of their worst performances since the World Cup. With the exception of a couple players, no one had a decent night.

So what can we take from this? First of all, no matter how frustrating it can be at times, the US team is based on Donovan. Click to continue reading...

At long last the match at Wembley is here. The US come into the game on a role while England are still trying to recover from their Euro flop.

In his first two matches as manager Fabio Capello has not won the respect of the English public, but most of them expect that to change today. Click to continue reading...

U.S. MNT Starting XI For England Friendly

5
Terry, Hargreaves, Rooney, Ferdinand, Woodgate, Beckham, Bentley, Gerrard, Lampard, Walcott, Crouch, Owen and both Coles. These are some of the best players not only in England but in the world. Yet they will all be there tomorrow, ready to go against the overmatched U.S.  Yikes. I don't pity Capello when it comes to filling out the Starting XI. Click to continue reading...

MLS Stands for Missing League’s Stars

2
They are the players who put the butts squarely in the seats... Beckham, Donovan, Joseph, De Rosario, Kljestan, etc... But for the next couple of weeks, international friendlies will ensure some will miss key matchups. Coaches will have to turn to unproven, raw youngsters to replace stable, storied superstars. Fulham drops Carlos Bocanegra

5
Fulham has reduced their American contingency by one as they dropped Carlos Bocanegra today. It is no big surprise that Bocanegra got the boot as manager Roy Hodgson had pretty much benched him for the last three months.

Bocanegra, who will likely be a starter for the US against England on Wednesday, is now looking for a new home. Click to continue reading...

US 3-0 Poland - We kill you with set pieces, player grades

18
US 3-0 Poland

Set them up and we'll knock them down. The US rolled over a difficult Polish side thanks to their amazing ability to confuse the defense on free kicks. All three goals were the result of plays from dead ball situation.

US Dominate in Poland: Polska 0-3 US

1
I won't say that our offense was fantastic (it was much the opposite, in fact) but our defense was solid when it needed to be and our midfield got the job done. We played our brand of football throughout, which is to say that we played some good ol' soccer: bruising d-mids destroying attacks before they happen, (over)utilization of the wings, and capitalization of dead-ball opportunities. Donovan over on the left to help Pearce out is a smart move by Bob Bradley, however it will probably force Donovan into more of a defensive, less wondering style of game. Click to continue reading...

Clint Dempsey wants 10 goals

4
Clint Dempsey had a three targets this season, "finish in the top 10, get 10 goals and five assists" but time has changed his focus.

"Right now we want to get out of the relegation battle, stay up and make things right for next season. The most important thing is that we stay up and if my personal targets are part of the reason for that then great, but staying up is all I want. Click to continue reading...

Re-live Donovan's 35 international goals

It was just under two-weeks ago that Landon Donovan officially became the all-time US Men's goal scorer. To celebrate this achievement, US Soccer has put together a fantastic trip down memory lane as they look back at all 35 goals.

US to play Argentina June 8th at Giants Stadium

2
It is official, the US Men's National team will face FIFA's top ranked team, Argentina, on June 8th at Giants Stadium.

This match looks to cap off a simulated 'group of death' series for the US men as they play England on May 28th, Spain on June 4th and Argentina on June 8th. Since the first two games are in Europe and the third in the US, it will be interesting to see how coach Bob Bradley deals with issues of fatigue. Click to continue reading...

US vs. England at Wembley almost set - Could it be Beckham's 100th?

The English FA and US Soccer have almost worked out all the details for a meeting at Wembley stadium on Wednesday, May 28th. If the game does take place, Fabio Capello is likely to select David Beckham for the roster, meaning he will finally earn his 100th cap for his country.

On the US side of things, look for a full roster to be called in for this one as the European season will be finished and the only MLS sides that play during the week are DC and New England (on Thursday night). Click to continue reading...

Bruce Arena - I'm a builder; US will not win 2010 World Cup

3
Four months into his retirement, former US and New York Red Bull boss Bruce Arena has some thoughts about his time in NY and his legacy.

As far as Red Bull is concerned, he enjoyed it but he doesn't think they gave him the time needed to succeed. "He simply wishes they had shown a little more patience with their soccer team, as he was given just over a year to turn around a team that had very little going for it before he took over in August 2006. Landon Donovan becomes US's all-time goal scoring leader

Mark your calendar, on this leap day 2008, Landon Donovan became the official 'king of all US male goal scorers.' Although the US did not play a match today, Donovan gets this honor thanks to FIFA recognizing a match the US played against Denmark as an official 'A' international game.

During the 20 Jan 2007 game, which the US won 3-1, Donovan scored a goal from the penalty spot in the 44th minute. Click to continue reading...
