7 games, 3 wins, 4 draws and 8 goals allowed. These were rookie Philadelphia Union goalkeeper
Zac MacMath's numbers after filling in for an injured Faryd Mondragon late in the 2011 season.
Pretty impressive for a twenty year old rookie backup goalkeeper who's only playing time before
Faryd Mondragon's injury was a second half start in a friendly against EPL squad, Everton.
The U.S. players had a lot to celebrate Saturday night
- Ricardo Clark's game-winner in the 97th minute marks the latest goal scored in the second half
by the United States in team history.
- Jurgen Klinsmann has collected back-to-back victories for the first time since becoming head
coach last summer, following the 3-2 win against Slovenia on Nov.
A.J. DeLaGarza enters his second consecutive January camp with seasoning and success under his
belt, and with a new coach at the helm comes a new opportunity to represent the United States. The
diminutive centerback will be looking to take advantage of his three weeks training as he seeks his
first cap with the full National Team.

The University of Maryland's overtime loss to Michigan in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals last
season was a shocking upset, and although it ended the Terps' hopes of a national title, good has
come from it.

If Graham Zusi has taken one lesson away from the first three years of his
MLS career, it's been understanding the value of patience.
After being selected by the Kansas City Wizards in the second round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft,
the attacking midfielder made just nine starts and scored one goal in his first two seasons.
The month of June was a turning-point month for Sporting Kansas City, which started turning its
season around last month after a rough start to the season.
Midfielder Graham Zusi was one of the key forces behind that turnaround. The former University
of Maryland standout is enjoying a breakout run with KC, notching two goals and three game-winning
assists in the month.

There are several players on the roster with ties to the Free State, beginning with Olney,
Md., native Oguchi Onyewu. Freddy Adu hails from Potomac and spent the first part of his pro career
with D.
I've been trying to get an interview with some of the players for quite some time now, but until
now I didn't have any luck. Being a different state will do that. Fortunately, I was able to
get in contact with rookie midfielder Matt Kassel, who was nice enough to answer
some of my questions.
Washington, D.C. (April 5, 2011) - D.C. United announced today that the club's
reserves will be taking part in truncated exhibition matches against local NCAA Division I
institutions, University of Maryland and University of Virginia on Sunday, April 10 on the
University of Maryland's campus in College Park, Md.
There is no announcement yet from the Union, but a report on Twitter from Shaka Hislop says that
Trinidad & Tobago goalkeeper Thorne Holder has signed with the Union.
Reports from Trinidad confirmed that Holder was on trial with the Union in January. The former
U-20 national team goalkeeper played high school soccer at Queen's Royal College in Trinidad &
Tobago before going to University of Maryland and Adelphi University.
Snow, snow and more snow, here in RBNY Land. The only good thing about all this white stuff is that
Mr. Backe & Mr. Soler must feel right at home. But never mind the snow, let's get to some news.
This past weekend, the great Mike Petke (pictured above), now a member of the RBNY Front Office,
hosted a tour of The Cathedral of Football for members of the Viking Army Supporters Club.
Maryland midfielder Matt Kassel has spent the past three years as a potential Homegrown Player
signing for the New York Red Bulls.
The wait is finally over.
Kassel has reached a contract agreement with the Red Bulls to become the team's third Homegrown
Player, sources told SBI on Monday.
I'm not exactly sure if I'm breaking this story (although I haven't seen it reported on any
other site as of now), but Matt Kassel has signed with New York. According to a Facebook status
update, Kassel states, "It was fun Maryland but New York Red Bulls it is!!! ..thanks for all the
support everyone.
Chicago Fire select Yannick Salmon, midfielder, University of Maryland
Chicago Fire select Yannick Salmon, midfielder, University of Maryland with the 27th overall
pick in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft. Here is his college bio. Yannick was of course college
teammates with Chicago Fire SuperDraft pick, Jason Herrick.
The MLS is certainly unique among major U.S. sports - it is the only draft in which a team
passes on a player because he needs to establish residency. But such is the reason why MLS fans
love the MLS - it is unique in both the world of soccer and the American sports world. And the
draft is another unique aspect; it is an event dedicated to the selection of what are essentially
late blooming players who went to college, an oddity in Europe but an essential part of the
American soccer landscape.
The Fire landed University of North Carolina defender Jalil Anibaba with the ninth pick in today's
MLS SuperDraft. Anibaba, the MVP of the MLS Combine, was ranked by many as a top five pick and the
Fire were understandably surprised to find him available at number nine. According to Technical
Director Frank Klopas, Anibaba can play both central defense and right back equally well.
Chicago Fire Select Jason Herrick With No. 45 Pick
With the 9th pick in the 3rd round (45 overall) of MLSSuperDraft, the Chicago Fire select Jason
Herrick, F, from University of Maryland.
From his bio, we got a local guy from Elmhurst, IL: Before Maryland: Played primarily with his
club team, Sockers FC Chicago .
During the next two weeks, ussoccer.com - with the help of all the fans on twitter - will be asking
questions of the newest fraternity of seven players making their first appearance in a full
national team camp. The first contestant is Los Angeles Galaxy defender A.J. DeLaGarza. An NCAA
Champion at the University of Maryland along with current Galaxy teammate Omar Gonzalez, A.
