Back in the 1950s and 60s, the Southend Odeon was THE place in south Essex to see not just
nationally, but internationally famous acts and groups. Doubling up as a cinema and an auditorium,
the Odeon - on Southend High Street - was consistently putting on major shows and acts to more than
2,000 people at a time.
A design student studying in at the University of Essex in Southend, is celebrating after picking
up a
£4,000 grant.
Toni Roberts, who's 20, is working towards a Graphic Design degree at the High Street campus. She
picked up the award from multi-national car manufacturers Fiat for her fantastic designs and
artwork.
