The 2012 SuperDraft has been criticized as being a weak draft, but the positions that the
Brotherly Game feels the Philadelphia Union should target have plenty of options from which to

Why Evansville?
That was the question I was asked by some friends at a Purple Aces Club gathering, and I think my
answer pleasantly surprised those I was sitting with.
Having been born and raised in the New York metropolitan area and despite growing up with a sports
orientation through professional sports teams like the Cosmos, Yankees and Knickerbockers, I was
always a college soccer fan.
There's been a littany of problems in so many American sports lately. College football has an
annual crisis of players, coaches and boosters scheming the system, Ohio State University being the
latest. College basketball has its own share of problems as witnessed earlier in the year when the
University of Connecticut got busted for recruiting violations only to bounce back and win the
national championship a month later.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) hosted its annual coaches convention
in Baltimore this past week, and offered its attendees the opportunity to watch, learn and listen
from the most successful coach in sport.
Two players with New England ties, Brown University's Jon Okafor and Connecticut native Ryan
Kinne, were both selected in the third round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft. Okafor went to Chivas USA,
while Kinne was selected by the New England Revolution.

Providence College midfielder Matt Marcin was added to the final MLS Combine roster. Marcin will
take part in the combine at Central Broward Regional Park in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. this weekend.
Marcin, along with over 70 other prospects including five players from New England colleges that
were previously announced, was placed on a team for the five day combine.
