an underachieving Buffs team that stumbled badly in its first season in the Pac 12.
Sanchez, who spent the past several years turning the University of Wyoming into a winning
program, has a history of winning at every level.

As we read one editorial after another expressing outrage at Penn State's failure to respond to
complaints regarding Sandusky, and try to wrap our minds around the consequences of this "scandal,"
we should step back and remember that U.S. universities have a long history of failing victims of
sexual assault.
Head coach Bill Hempen saw red on Sunday afternoon, but it still wasn't enough for the CU Buffs
to see their way to a win.
Hempen, who shuffled players in an effort to avoid adding to a five-game losing winless streak,
was ejected from the game in the 77th minute at Prentup Field. His departure was not enough to
spark a comeback as Oregon claimed a 3-1 victory in Pac-12 play.
Colorado nearly got its first Pac-12 Conference victory and nearly gave Arizona its first win of
the season in an entertaining match at Prentup Field before 1,284 fans that ended in a 2-2 tie
after two overtime periods.
Anne Stuller led the way for the Buffs with two goals as Colorado (3-5-2, 0-1-1 Pac-12) narrowly
avoided giving the Wildcats (0-8-2, 0-2-1 Pac-12) their first victory of the season.
The Oregon State women's soccer team defeated the Colorado Buffaloes 2-0 Friday night in the
Pac-12 conference opener.
"We didn't know what to expect from Colorado," Beavers coach Linus Rhode said. "I thought it was
a solid game. We had to deal with physical play and I think overall, we did a good job today.
A goal in the 38th minute from Lindsay Link proved to be all the University of Colorado Colorado
Springs would need as the Mountain Lions topped rival CSU-Pueblo 1-0 Wednesday night on the
Thunderwolves' home turf.
UCCS had the Thunderwolves on their heels early as they had 14 first half shots, finishing the
night outshooting CSU-Pueblo 23-13.
The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team answered the No. 13-ranked
Colorado School of Mines Orediggers twice Sunday, but ran out of time in its search for a third
reply in a 3-2 defeat at CSM Soccer Field.
The Orediggers took leads at 1-0 and 2-1, but the Mountain Lions tied the match shortly
afterward each time.
The Colorado Buffaloes winless streak stretched to five games on Friday, but CU nearly snatched
a win in a 2-2 draw with No. 22 Auburn in Denver.
Amy Barczuk and Caroline Danneberg each scored goals for Colorado, at CIBER Field in the first
match of the Denver Invitational on the DU campus.
In a showdown of state powers, DU got the early goal and defended it to steal a 1-0 win over
Colorado on the road at Prentup Field on Sunday.
The Pioneers (5-1-0) followed their early season script of scoring the first goal of every
match, as forward Kalie Vaughn opened the scoring in the seventh minute.
Colorado's road woes continued on Sunday, but the team finally found a way to score and provide
some hope for an upcoming home match with an in-state rival.
The Buffs ended there two game scoring drought, but lost 3-2 in a tight game against No. 17
Illinois.
Colorado took advantage of two Illinois fouls late in the first 45 minutes.
Colorado dropped its second straight 1-0 game, falling to Purdue in the first match of the
Illini/Boilermaker Cup.
Purdue was coming off a three-game losing streak, but opened the game with a great scoring
chance. The Boilermakers tested Colorado's defense early, when they put a header on goal after a
corner kick, but CU's defense cleared it for a team save.
The Wyoming Cowgirls put an end to a promising start to the season by nipping the Colorado
Buffaloes 1-0 at Prentup Field in Boulder.
It was CU's first loss of the 2011 season, and the Buffs dropped to 2-1-0.
Colorado used its momentum from last week's Colorado Cup tournament victory, and came out strong
against the visiting Cowgirls.

Battling the rain and a determined opponent, the University of Denver finally found a winner
against the University of Northern Colorado in the second period of extra time in the second game
of the inaugural Colorado Cup late Friday.
DU prevailed in the opener for both teams at the Pioneers' CIBER Field when Nicholette
DiGiacomo's flick was punched into the back of the net by Kristen Hamilton in the 109th minute.
The University of Colorado got the season off to a sparkling start, scoring twice in the first
15 minutes and continuing to paste the Colorado College goal in a 5-0 opener to the Colorado
Cup.
Playing at the University of Denver, the Buffaloes came out on the attack and were quickly
rewarded.
The University of Denver women's soccer team will open the 2011 season on Aug. 19, when the
Pioneers host the first two games of the Inaugural Colorado Cup at CIBER Field at the University of
Denver Soccer Stadium.
In addition to DU, the showcase features Colorado, Colorado College and Northern Colorado.
