While the MLS season is about to end it only means one thing, the SuperDraft is just right
around the corner. Yes, that means a boat load of college kids will head to the combine for MLS
coaches and scouts to pick out and find the very best of the best.
Akron Zips (21-0-0) defeat South Florida 2-0, will now play Stanford (12-5-2) on Sunday,
November 29 in Sweet-16.

AKRON, Ohio Junior Anthony Ampaipitakwong scored a pair of goals and the defense took care of
the rest as the top-seeded University of Akron men's soccer team defeated South Florida, 2-0,
before a record-setting crowd of 2,700 fans in second-round action of the NCAA Tournament Sunday at
Lee Jackson field.

In a move that will surely come as a shock in MLS circles, highly-regarded University of Akron
head coach Caleb Porter has turned down the job as D.C. United head coach after being offered the
position just a day after Akron lost in the NCAA College Cup Final to Virginia in penalty
kicks.
Caleb Porter will remain the head coach at the University of Akron, reportedly turning down the DC
United job. The school, who lost the College Cup final to Virginia after winning all 23 of their
regular season games, announced Porter has signed a five-year contract. "After reaching the
pinnacle of college soccer this season, my vision will be to sustain the program for long-term
success as one of the nation's elite programs," Porter said in.
In their second preseason match the USF men faced University of Akron Friday night and found out
why the school is ranked #3 in the NSCAA preseason poll. The Zips outshot the Bulls 16-3 and won
the match 3-1.
The Bulls scored their only goal of the game in the 32nd minute when Felipe Libreros put away a
cross from Benardo Anor.
Several weeks ago IMS reported on Minnesota native Teal Bunbury, who played for the Rochester
Thunder PDL team this past summer and plays his fall soccer for the University of Akron.
The Zips (17-0-0) are the No. 1 team in the country in all five national polls. Bunbury scored
yet again yesterday just 3:18 into the first half with a 20-yard chip shot.

After playing to a scoreless tie through 110 minutes, the University of Akron men's soccer team was
defeated by Virginia in penalty kicks, 3-2, Sunday afternoon in the NCAA national championship game
at WakeMed Stadium before 5,679 fans.
The top-seeded Zips (23-1-1) suffered the loss despite posting their fifth straight shutout of
the NCAA Tournament, spanning 490 consecutive minutes.
* The Chicago Fire have whittled their head coaching candidates down to two choices: former DC
United head coach Tom Soehn and current Chivas USA midfielder Jesse Marsch.
* American goalkeeper Nick Noble has signed a contract with Ljungskile SK of Sweden. The
25-year-old was a member of the Chicago Fire from 2007 - 2009 but never made an official league

AKRON, Ohio - The top-seeded University of Akron men's soccer team defeated
Stanford, 2-0, to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships for just the third time in
school history Sunday before yet another record-setting crowd at Lee Jackson Field.
The Arkon of Ohio Zips with Minnesotan Teal Bunbury notched their 23rd win of the season on
Saturday taking out the Tulsa Hurricans 1-0. Bunbury, who leads the nation with 17 goals on the
year, was a force all game with five shots including three on-goal.
This is the second time the Zips have made it to the Final Four.
The hottest rumor on the coaching carousel rumor mill appears to be the courtship of Caleb Porter
by DC United of Major League Soccer, as Steven Goff of the Washington Post reports.

Athletics Director/Media Relations Mike Cawood said Tuesday night.
Cawood said Porter and UA have reached an agreement on a new five-year contract.
The next head coach of DC United will not be Caleb Porter. The Akron Beacon Journal is reporting
that the University of Akron men's head coach has decided to remain with the school for at least
the next half-decade and has signed a new five-year deal to coach the Zips.
Regarded as one of the best coaches in college soccer, 34-year-old Porter was repeatedly mentioned
as one of two final candidates (along with Curt Onalfo) for the DC job.

it is likely less pay, less prestige, and less potential for advancement.
It was reported yesterday by Ives Galarcep that the University of Akron's 35 year old head
soccer coach Caleb Porter turned down Major League Soccer's DC United's offer to be their head
coach. Instead the 35 year old Porter inked a new contract with the Zips. Akron's Athletic Director
Tom Wistrcill announced Tuesday that Porter had signed a new contract for 5 more years keeping
him in Ohio until the 2014 season.
D.C. United's flirting with Akron's Caleb Porter showed that Major League Soccer franchises feel
that college soccer can develop coaches for MLS as well as players.
Soccer America reported on the list of coaches who have made the jump from college soccer to
MLS.
For the time being at least, Caleb Porter won't be leaving the University of Akron for MLS's D.
Paul Kennedy of Soccer America reports that contrary to overtures by DC United of Major League
Soccer, Caleb Porter will stay on at Akron.

University of Akron sophomore Teal Bunbury has opted to forego his final two years of college
eligibility to sign a contract with Major League Soccer, according to a report by the Washington
Post's Steven Goff. He is widely regarded as a potential top-5 pick in next month's 2010 MLS
SuperDraft.
Bunbury, 19, started all 25 games for the top-ranked Zips last season, scoring a team-leading 17
goals to go with five assists.
