As the crowd of just over 1,700 filed out of Underhill after a six-three home defeat at the
hands of Burton Albion last weekend, supporters of Barnet Football Club had little option but to
face up to the prospect of another difficult season in League Two again this year. The club is in
second from bottom place in the Football League with only Plymouth Argyle below them, and with
Plymouth now having finally exited administration and Barnet having lost seven of their last eight
matches, a club which has maintained it League Two status by he skin of its teeth for the last
couple of seasons will be looking nervously at the trapdoor which is threatening to open up below
it again.
Arsenal 1-1 New York Red Bulls
I have been to pre-season games before. I stood on the terraces at Underhill one July afternoon and
though the memory is a bit hazy now, I'm sure I have also paid visits to Borehamwood and Stevenage
in my time. Solid pre-season turf on all counts.
Over 1500 people were at Underhill to see Barnet host the Spurs XI for Lee Harrison's
testimonial. Most of that number were Bees fans but there were still little pockets of Spurs fans
dotted around the ground.
The majority of Spurs fans were there hoping to get a close look at our two young signings,
Soulemayne Coulibaly and Christian Ceballos.
Pep Segura's first match in charge of Liverpool Reserves ended in disappointment as they went down
to a last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Arsenal on Wednesday night.
The Reds had looked to have salvaged a point when Tom Ince cancelled out Luke Freeman's stunning
first-half effort in the final minute.
However, the Gunners striker powered home a fine header deep into stoppage time as the away side
were ultimately made to pay for their profligacy in the final third.
I've just got enough time to get a quick preview done before I head off to the ground. Barnet
are the visitors to Broadhall Way today, just over 2 months ago since we beat them 3-0 at
Underhill. A lot has changed since that Tuesday night in early November. We haven't won a game in
the league since, whilst Barnet have now parted company with former Boro boss Mark Stimson.
