The NextGen Series was always more important for the experience it would provide to Liverpool's
talented youngsters than for the chance to win a trophy, and so in the end one can only consider a
run to the quarter-finals after a testing group stage to have been a success.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Generation adidas tag typically translates into high MLS SuperDraft
position, but for three of this year's nine signings, that did not turn out to be the case.
Not like it matters all that much. All three fell into pretty ideal club situations from
individual perspectives.
Freddy Adu spoke to Arch Bell of ESPN.com and, in a column published Monday, expressed an
interest in returning to Europe immediately.
The money quote from Adu is here: "It would be an amazing opportunity to be able to stay here at
Rayo [Vallecano]."
"I definitely miss playing in Europe," Adu continued, "I always said that when I went back to
MLS, I wanted stability, and that I wouldn't go back until I could play for a top-five league.
As expected, the Columbus Crew signed two-time National Champion and Soccer America's College
Soccer Player of the Year for 2011 Ben Speas as a homegrown player. Speas won the 2010 College Cup
with the University of Akron before transferring to UNC and winning it again in 2011. Speas scored
the only goal in the 2011 final, winning the MVP award.
There is so much that can change the draft and the way that teams select that it's really hard to
look at KC's first round pick, the 16th overall, let alone the rest of KC's draft. So we're going
to just look at the 16th draft pick at this point and go through the rest of the picks as they come
up during the draft.
It is the week of the MLS Combine, which means it is time for one final mock draft before things
get real interesting here.
I debated long and hard over the New Year weekend on whether or not to post this before the
Combine or wait for the Combine to take place. What I decided to do was just to post this now and
then have one final mock draft after the Combine.

The 2012 Generation adidas class is a little more than half way there. Before Christmas we had
Darren Mattocks (Akron), Chandler Hoffman (UCLA), Andrew Wenger (Duke) and Sam Garza (UCSB) sign
their GA deals with the league. It appears one more can be added to that list in the form of UCLA
midfielder Kelyn Rowe.
The 2012 MLS SuperDraft just got a little better. Fox Soccer's Ives Galarcep is reporting that
the league has secured deals with two of the top prospects in this year's draft in Akron striker
Darren Mattocks and Duke midfielder/defender Andrew Wenger.
Mattocks was rumored to go to Europe over the last couple weeks.
On the USA's day off from training on Friday, U.S. defender Meghan Klingenberg spent several hours
at the The Home Depot Center offices taking the final exam of her college career. The test was
proctored by U.S. GM Tim Ryder, and Kling made short work of the Business Analytical Applications
exam. Not.
Amanda, Kirsten and Shana return to discuss the women's and men's College Cup finals and the end
of the NCAA season. Since Amanda is a Duke fan, you can probably guess how discussion of UNC
winning a trophy went. But at least before that, they get to discuss Duke and Stanford and a much
more satisfying women's College Cup.
The Tarheels of North Carolina finally got over the hump and won the NCAA National Title Sunday
with their 1-0 win over Charlotte. The number 1 seeded team didn't play... Read more »
Once again the College Cup is upon us. While this game has little to do with MLS as a whole,
it's nice to see the current top crop of NCAA soccer prospects, especially since many of them are
probably looking at MLS as an entry to playing professionally. A few are probably already signed up
for Generation Adidas as well.
KSU Soccer Stadium will soon play host the the 2011 NCAA Division I Women's College Cup Finals.
Sixty-Four teams started the tournament and are fighting towards a spot in Kennesaw, GA. The
semifinal matches will be played on December 2nd at 5 & 7:30 PM followed by the championship match
on Sunday, December 4th at 1 PM.
The #2 UNC Tar Heals left Tobacco Road Monday evening on what they thought was a quick pitstop
away victory two hours away at Davidson.
Looming a showdown with #3 Maryland on Friday.
But Davidson had the resolve, weathering nearly 5 times as many volleys as they authored. The
one below made the difference though.
The Philadelphia Union jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on the back on Sebastien Le Toux's two
first half goals. The Frenchman put the team on his back - a reference to a Youtube video about
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings - for the first 15 minutes of the match, then
proceeded to be dangerous for the rest of the game.

Conference battles begin to heat up but a looming West Coast match may prove to be the biggest
game in college soccer this weekend.
Below are some of the bigger games this weekend that I'll be keeping an eye on.

After a couple big weekend of college soccer where top schools faced off against one another,
this weekend cools off a bit at least in terms of a No 1 vs No 2 matchup. There are still plenty of
good match ups to discuss for the weekend ahead.
Sheanon Williams has come a long way since he signed with the Union in late August of 2010.
Williams is in the midst of a stellar year and he's a player Union fans are glad to have. His
physicality and prowess going forward have proven to be both threatening and impressive against
opposing teams. We spoke to Sheanon briefly about his season so far and his thoughts on the future.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –Nine months ago the North Carolina Tar Heels saw their hopes for an NCAA
title dashed by the Louisville Cardinals. On Sunday, the Tar Heels earned a measure of revenge, and
more importantly, showed that they are ready to make another strong run at the championship.
The University of Northern Colorado finally found its way to the win column on Friday as the
Bears traveled to Colorado Springs and beat the Air Force Academy Falcons 1-0.
The lone score of the match came from Brittany Dunn in the 72nd minute. Dunn got to a ball near
the left corner of the box, spun around and sent one in to the right side of the net.

If you thought the opening weekend in college soccer was a good one, well buckle up because the
Labor Day weekend slate is possibly even better. A couple more high-profile match ups headline this
holiday weekend as we once again have a #1 v.

With each year that the MLS academy system is around, college teams will get a little richer for
a couple years. That is certainly the case this season as several college teams are blessed with
loads of talent from the MLS academy system.

School is back in session for another year, which means it is time to dive into the college
soccer world once again. It doesn't seem that long ago when Akron took home the NCAA trophy and
then saw a mass exodus of players to Major League Soccer.
The University of Colorado piled up eight goals in two matches, notched two shutouts and claimed
ownership of the inaugural Colorado Cup on Sunday.
The Buffaloes (2-0-0) handed the Northern Colorado Bears (0-2-0) a 3-0 loss on Sunday afternoon
at Prentup Field in Boulder to claim the cup. The win at home came after CU shredded Colorado
College 5-0 at the University of Denver's CIBER Field on Friday.
Starting in the back for the Union, Sheanon Williams has been one of the keys to the team's run
to the top half of the Eastern Conference. Although he has been one of the best right backs in MLS,
Williams spent the Portland match deputizing for Danny Califf in the middle.
And honestly, even if he hadn't come out of the gates so strong this season, Sheanon earned a
lot of leeway from Union fans when he put down roots in one of the team's 2010 problem
positions.
Kentucky is the fourth and final team to qualify for the Final Four. Although the underdog
against North Carolina, freshman Brandon Knight led Kentucky with 22 points, seven rebounds, four
assists and three steals. With big shots late, Kentucky won by a final score of 76-69. Kentucky
will play UConn for the right for a spot in the national championship game.
During the January camp, ussoccer.com - with the help of all the fans on twitter - has been
asking questions of the newest fraternity of eight players making their first appearance in a full
national team camp. Today's contestant is Zach Loyd from FC Dallas. The native of Verdigis, Okla.,
is coming off a solid rookie season highlighted by his team's appearance in the 2010 MLS cup final
and his first opportunity with the red, white and blue .
Don't know what it is about college students, music, and video cameras, but the University of North
Carolina's soccer team is the latest group to bring their "musical" talents to YouTube with this
parody of Black & Yellow:
As you can see, it's nice the nicest day ever in the Yongchuan suburb of Chongqing, and we're not
sure if its fog or smog, but probably a combo. Needless to say, it's pretty dark and cool here on
the first full day for the U.S. team in China, but no one comes to central China in January for
vacation, the USA is here for three excellent games.
In this week's MLS Superdraft the Philadelphia Union selected Maryland goalkeeper Zac MacMath
with their first pick. The Union then selected UNC midfielder Michael Farfan and UMBC
forward/midfielder Levi Houapeu in the second and third rounds.
My take on the MacMath selection is rather conventional.
By MIKE NASTRI
The Philadelphia Union came into the 2011 MLS Draft with a handful of needs, but goalkeeper
wasn't considered one of them.
That is what made the Union's selection of Maryland goalkeeper Zac MacMath somewhat surprising,
but with incoming goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon turning 40 this year, Peter Nowak chose to take one of
the best overall prospects in the draft.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on... we won't get fooled again!
Or will we.
Zac MacMath, Goalkeeper
After losing former Maryland star goalie and top five pick Chris Seitz to the expansion draft,
the Union grabbed Maryland star goalie Zac MacMath with the fifth pick in the 2011 SuperDraft.
Seeking to find another strong, defensive presence in their midfield, the Revolution selected
one of the best at the 24th pick with their selection of Stephen McCarthy.

The 6-4 former North Carolina central midfielder earned Second Team All-ACC honors in 2010 after
only one season in the perenially-strong ACC.
On the eve of the 2011 MLS draft, I was wondering what fans think Sporting Kansas City should do
tomorrow?Lots of mock draft have had Kansas City taking Jalil Anibaba from UNC but with his strong
combine the latest predictions have him going higher than Kansas City's pick in the tenth spot. The
latest mock draft from Ives has Sporting taking US U-20 forward Omar Salgado.
With the SuperDraft quickly approaching, the New England Revolution has plenty of holes they
will be looking to fill. While it's hard to imagine the Revs grabbing an instant starter with
anything other than their first-round pick (6th overall), the team should be able to add needed
depth in some key areas.

Video of Louisville players and fans celebrating semi-final win against UNC.
This week's guest on the Jared Montz Soccer Podcast is Andre Boudreaux. Andre is the starting
goalkeeper for the University of Louisville Men's soccer team. He helped lead the Cardinals to a
20-1-3 finish only losing to Akron University in the NCAA D1 College Cup Final.
The USA's 25-player camp that opened today features three players who received their first-ever
call-ups to the full team. All played in a youth Women's World Cup for the USA and all are at
different stages of their careers. Jordan Angeli (U-20s in Russia '06) had an excellent season with
the Boston Breakers during her rookie year, scoring seven goals, second only to Kelly Smith.
