Those bloomin' Barcelona youth team players. You can't take them anywhere without the whole thingdescending into a skill-laden free-for-all.
Take this lovely barbecue at La Masia for example. What should've been a friendly get-together with lashings of grilled meat for all quickly turned into what can only describe as utter chaos and debauchery.
Nicky Butt is expected to remain as Manchester United as a coach once the Louis Van Gaal era finally gets underway in its earnest, with the former United midfielder set to continue his role with the club's academy.
A product of the Class of '92, Butt will continue to manage the Under-19 side in the UEFA Youth League and he'll also continue to work alongside Warren Joyce with the Under-21 side, after having being temporarily promoted to the first team fold by Ryan Giggs when the Welshman replaced David Moyes for the last four games of last season.
Tuesday afternoon saw a Chelsea Academy side make their third quarter final of the season, this time in the UEFA Youth League as the U19's dispatched AC Milan 4 - 1 at Cobham. It has been a competition that Chelsea have excelled in being the only team with a 100% win record in the competition and only conceding a single goal before this game.
This week in the academy cup competitions were the order of the day. There was no U18's league action this week as the game against Fulham was postponed. However there were still 2 games to enjoy this week and both of them were cup games.
For the U19's this week there was the opportunity to finish their UEFA Youth League group stage with a 100% win record and that is exactly what they did and in style.
There was limited action this week but there was still an important game to play. There was once again no U18's fixture this week and also no U21's fixture but the U19's (basically the U21's team anyway) were in action again in the UEFA Youth League. Until this fixture they had 3 wins out of 3 and were looking to make that 4 out of 4 and book their place in the knockout stages of the competition with 2 matches spare.
It was back in the action this week and there was varied results across the levels in the academy this week. There was also some impressive displays from players who are out on loan. So lots to catch up on and look forward to.
First up on Saturday was the U18's who were away to Tottenham.
Once again it has been that time when the club football takes a back seat and international football comes into our lives no matter if we want it to or not. But as there was no blog post for a couple of weeks due to me being rather unwell and very busy plus the international break there are plenty of match highlights to catch up with and they were all uploaded last week.
With things not going so well at first team level it has been left to the Chelsea academy to produce the winning football and also the good football that is being craved at senior level. It started last Friday with the U21's 2 - 0 win over Norwich, the game was covered in last weeks post but the highlights of that game can now be seen here:
That was then followed up by the U18's as they took on Liverpool at Cobham, things started well for Chelsea as they took the lead but Liverpool came back and the blues found themselves 2 - 1 down at half time.
It is international break in the world of football at the moment but there are still a few things to bring ourselves up to date with Chelsea's academy especially since the transfer has officially (thankfully) passed.
Going back to last Saturday though and the U18's were in action away to Everton.
Last year we had the Nextgen series and Arsenal got to the semi finals to lose against Chelsea with 4-3 in extra time. That was rather an interesting match to see. We then also lost the last game so Arsenal finished in 4th place.
