The MLS SuperDraft is Thursday, January 12 at 12pm ET (ESPN2, ESPN3). The Philadelphia Union
have the 13th, 32nd and 35th picks this year, and nobody knows
what the team will do. PSP runs down some of the options.
Tony Cascio
What: Winger
Why: Some experts believe the Union will look to solidify their wing play by
adding a player like UConn's Tony Cascio.
Skillful wingers in the player pool are at a premium ahead of Thursday's MLS SuperDraft, but
three of the top players available at the position are some of the more sought-after attackers
eligible for selection.
Sam Garza, a Generation adidas signing out of UCSB who can play up top or on the wing, helped
his stock considerably with his showing while playing for the adiPure team at the Combine and had a
big hand in helping set up Ethan Finlay as part of the Creighton forward's hat trick.
The MLS Generation adidas class will feature nine players after the league secured the signings
of three players on Wednesday night.
South Florida striker Dom Dwyer, Creighton fullback Tyler Polak and UConn central defender
Andrew Jean-Baptiste were all signed to Generation adidas contracts after being made offers on
Tuesday.

The Generation adidas class for 2012 is nearly complete. UNC midfielder Enzo Martinez has signed
his GA deal with the league but his former Tar Heel teammate Billy Schuler declined his offer from
the league to go to Europe.
Reports out of Sweden say that Hammarby IF (yes, Greg Berhalter's new club) is close to signing
the Tar Heel to a deal.
And then there were six.
North Carolina playmaker Enzo Martinez signed has signed a Generation adidas contract, becoming
the sixth member of the 2012 Generation adidas class, but teammate Billy Schuler passed on the
final MLS offer, and ultimately signed with Hammarby.
Schuler's decision to bolt for Europe has opened the door for MLS to expand the class, with the
league extending Generation adidas offers to Creighton fullback Tyler Polak, South Florida striker
Dom Dwyer and UConn centerback Andrew Jean-Baptiste.
The time is here. One of my favorite things to do each year as most of you know is talk about
the SuperDraft and even do a couple mock drafts to get ready for it next month. Hard to believe but
we are less than a month out of the draft in Kansas City.
This draft will be interesting, that much is already certain with top names like Darren Mattocks
and Billy Schuler attacking attention from clubs overseas.
The championship favorites take on the ultimate Cinderella story as No. 1 ranked North Carolina
faces Charlotte in the NCAA Men's College Cup Final today in Hoover, Alabama (4pm, ESPNU).
The Tar Heels entered the tournament as favorites, and showed their quality in beating a tough
UCLA side in penalties in the semifinal.
Later today, NCAA Tournament finalists UNC-Charlotte and North Carolina wil play for the
prestigious College Cup. To give us a better glimpse of what occured during the tournament, Brian
O'Connell caught up with Revsnet founder and college soccer expert Mike Marshall
to discuss this weekend's slate of matches, as well as college soccer at large.
Four New England-based college players will be making the trek to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for the
2012 MLS Player Combine, which will run from Jan. 6-10, 2012.
The UConn duo of defender Nick Blake and forward Tony Cascio, as well as Dartmouth forward
Luckymore Mkosana and Providence goalkeeper Jhojan Obando, are among 52 college seniors that will
attempt to improve their SuperDraft stock during the five-day showcase, which will host a number of
MLS coaches, general managers and scouts all hoping to get a glimpse of the country's best
college-based talent.

Overtime was needed in both of Sunday's quarterfinals as unseeded Charlotte shocked No. 3 UConn
and No. 2 Creighton overcame a hearty challenge from No. 7 South Florida.
Charlotte came from behind late in the game to knot the score at 1-1 and force a penalty kick
shootout against the Huskies before advancing courtesy of a 4-2 victory.
Connecticut couldn't cling to its late one-goal lead and paid the price for it as Creighton
edged the Huskies 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 match on Sunday in Storrs, Ct.
Tony Cascio broke a scoreless tie in the 82nd minute to put UConn up late, but moments later,
Giuseppe Gentile leveled it in the 85th minute, forcing the match into two overtimes.

The latest Fox Soccer MLS Draft Big Board is out, and with six weeks to go, there have been
plenty of changes to the list of Top 25 prospects heading into Janaury's MLS Draft.
The very top of the Big Board is largely unchanged, with Duke's Andrew Wenger and Akron's Darren
Mattocks remaining at the top, with UCLA's Kelyn Rowe and North Carolina's Billy Schuler following
them.

It's the kind of stuff Hollywood was built on.
Last season, a staggering nine goals were produced in a snowy quarterfinal clash between
then-No. 1 Louisville and No. 8 UCLA, as the Cardinals squeaked out a 5-4 victory on their way to a
runner-up finish.
The Brown University Bears' (12-5-3) NCAA Division I Tournament run came to an end on Sunday
night in the round of 16, leaving the University of Connecticut Huskies (19-3-2) as the only New
England college left in the competition.
Playing at home at Stevenson Field in Providence, RI., Brown fell behind St.
The race to win the 2011 NCAA College Cup will heat up today as the 16 remaining contenders
square off in pre-quarterfinal action across the country.
Four of the top five seeds are still alive, including No. 1 North Carolina, which opens today's
action in a tricky match-up against Indiana.
The way things are shaking out for Creighton, it would appear that the Bluejays are well on their
way to a top seed in the NCAA men's soccer tournament.
After finishing the regular season as Missouri Valley Conference co-champions, the Bluejays, who
are a perfect 9-0 at home this season, are set to host the league's tournament this week.
The strongest conference in college soccer will begin the path toward crowning its champion
today as the Big East Tournament kicks off and a half dozen nationally-ranked teams do battle for
the crown currently held by Louisville.
South Florida enters as the favorite, with pre-season favorites Louisville and UConn being
forced to take longer roads to the semifinals after enduring some disappointing results.

In men's college soccer this weekend there is yet another big match that pits two of the top
teams in the country against one another. A defensive powerhouse against an offensive juggernaut.
For those who are keeping tabs of course I am talking about Maryland and Creighton's match
tonight.

Conference play is heating up around the country but we still had a few big out of conference
games that were fun to take note this past weekend in college soccer. Below are a few of the bigger
results from a jam-packed weekend.

When goalkeeper Chris Blais' 2010 season came to a close, it did so a game earlier than he
wanted. Blais had helped guide Michigan to an impressive run in the NCAA Championship tournament,
one that ended with a semifinals loss to eventual champion Akron.
Golden Ball anyone? 3four3 will be looking to hand out some hardware to the nations best college
player.
I've seen numerous lists of top college players/pro prospects in the last few weeks and quite
frankly they've made me laugh. The same robotic big athletic players are being hyped up and
called the nations top players.

If you thought the opening weekend in college soccer was a good one, well buckle up because the
Labor Day weekend slate is possibly even better. A couple more high-profile match ups headline this
holiday weekend as we once again have a #1 v.
Steve Fisher has turned San Diego State into a basketball school. On Sunday night, the school
rewarded their head coach by giving him a four-year contract extension. The new contract will have
Steve Fisher working San Diego State's sidelines until he is 70 years old.
Last season, Steve Fisher and San Diego State went 34-3.
Yeah, everyone is trying to be nice to Butler. It was a great run and an even greater story. But
at the finish line, Butler choked. Plain and simple. As a result, Kemba Walker and UConn were able
to take home the college basketball national championship in March Madness 2011.
Kemba Walker and UConn played decently well.
Kentucky is the fourth and final team to qualify for the Final Four. Although the underdog
against North Carolina, freshman Brandon Knight led Kentucky with 22 points, seven rebounds, four
assists and three steals. With big shots late, Kentucky won by a final score of 76-69. Kentucky
will play UConn for the right for a spot in the national championship game.
Kemba Walker has been the best player in all of college basketball over the last three weeks. In
that span, UConn has won all nine games they have played. Their latest victim was Arizona. With a
65-63 victory on Saturday night, UConn is headed to the Final Four. That makes us 2-for-2 in our
Elite 8 predictions for March Madness 2011.

The MLS Supplemental Draft, which is really just more of the SuperDraft as far as I can tell,
kicks off at 11am Pacific today. We'll be documenting the developments here. No video for these Mr
Irrelevants. Keep in mind that Fucito was taken in the 4th (which would now be the first round of
the Supplemental) so it's possible to find players here.
If the 2011 MLS Draft wasn't enough of an event for you to get your off-season fix, then today's
MLS Supplemental Draft should offer an appetizer for those who love seeing their teams add new
faces.
There is some talent left that went undrafted last week, particularly non-American college
players who teams passed on because they would take up international player slots.
